Before the internet, magazines were a huge source of information for me and my family in my youth. I remember checking the mail and finding swarms of subscriptions from clothing companies, hair magazines, celebrity magazines, and more. It was always a pleasure to see what they had in store for us. When boredom struck during my summer vacation, I often found great enjoyment in thoroughly reading my older sister's teenage magazines Magazines

have always made me feel as if I was a member of an exclusive club that could only be accessed within those pages. They gave me a high I couldn’t describe.

When the internet made its big break into the lives of everyday people in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, I initially felt that same feeling, but it was magnified. The internet provided an endless source of “secret” pockets that I could explore to no end and it

didn’t take long before I became addicted & obsessed. Like millions of others, I was greatly intrigued by this chapter of uncharted territory in human history and was excited to see us going in this direction No longer did we need to wait for newspapers or magazines to learn about the latest news

or events No longer did we need to wait to purchase a set of encyclopedias or visit a library to access information for research. For the first time, we had instant information right at our fingertips To this day, it’s still something I marvel at However, I’ve learned all too well the damage the internet can do to one's life if you utilize it without self restraint.

Unfortunately, many have used the internet to capitalize on the weaknesses of humans to a “t” and now, instead of us using the internet, the internet is using us. This seamless transition took place right before our eyes and we condone it each and every single time we use a technological device whether we know it or not.

Not only is technology using us, but it’s also influencing who we become. After years of gathering an abundance of data and information on human behavior, the computer now has the ability to predict our behavior, which in turn, allows it to navigate our decisions and majorly impact the outcome of our lives.

I could take you down a rabbit hole of just how far gone we are in regards to that, but that’s not the point of this article. As much as I would love to become an avid reader, I am limited in my willingness and ability to focus long enough to read an entire book, cover to cover. Many “professionals” would throw a bottle of pills at me and wish me the best of luck, but I firmly believe that exercising the mind by mastering short form text in addition to doing things that will improve your overall health is the best

Not only that, magazines are a great opportunity to break the chains of our digital addiction and expand our desire to enjoy things that don’t involve a screen.
