The purpose of Impressive Magazine is to make it easier and more convenient for small businesses, entrepreneurs, non-profit organizations, and others to tell their stories and promote the products and services they provide. As a press, we DO NOT cover gossip or drama and strive to shine a bright new positive light on humankind. We share the belief that regardless of genre, niche, or success level, each and every one of us has a story worth telling and deserves to be heard. It is our desire to open this opportunity to as many people as possible and we will work endlessly to achieve this goal. We are so grateful for your support, kindness, and generosity and look forward to inspiring you with many amazing stories to come.
Greetings Beautiful People!
As you may or may not know, I am Denika Lashae, Editor-In-Chief of Impressive Magazine. I am extremely grateful that you took the time to glance through this publication. In these humble beginnings, your eyes meeting the pages of this magazine means more than words can convey. I simply cannot thank you all enough. Printed publications have been a key source of information in my household as a youth for as long as I can remember. Since we were introverts and still are, we like to read magazines to stay on top of the latest news. JET, Ebony, Essence, Elle, Cosmopolitan, O by Oprah, Hype Hair, Word Up, VIBE, The Source and several others helped me understand what was going on in this vast world that I was anxious, yet reluctant to explore.
As social media began to make its appearance, however, I found my comfort zone. It was a way to meet wonderful people without invading boundaries. I was able to earn business and make friends through photography for many years and decided in 2019 that it would be a great idea to share my clients’ stories. Consequently, Impressive Magazine was born, and I have been striving to get it off the ground ever since. I must thank EVERYONE who believed in me enough to execute this project, but more importantly I must thank those who participated in its evolution.
My heart is content knowing YOU (YES YOU) saw any amount of value in the work put in to make this possible. I am elated to see things come to fruition and my primary prayer is that The Most High God only gives me what I can handle, whether it's 5 or 5,000+ readers. I really do appreciate you being one of them, and hope you enjoy our magazine. Above all, no matter what obstacles you face, my hope and prayer is that these reads will e

Introduce yourself and tell us what is your entrepreneur title?
I am Patrice Ayanna. Entrepreneur title would be author, vlogger and thrifted fashionista.
Impressive! Tell us about your background as an author, vlogger and thrifted fashionista.
I kind of fell into this as a [I don't want to say a hobby], but I just have a
passion for fashion. I have a passion for finding shortcuts to make things cheaper and I have been writing since I could pick up a pen [so] it is just what I love to do and it only made sense to share it with everyone else.
Share with us how God inspired you on your journey?
Faith is the chief corner stone of my life. God is very, very important to me and I try my best to put
Him first in everything. I am not perfect, but He is what governs every decision that I make in every facet of my life.
What word of advice and/or bible verse would you tell someone to apply who is just starting out in your field?
My advice to anyone would be to never give up. Follow your dreams, but my favorite scripture to stand on is Ephesians 3:20
Now unto Him who is able...even if you stop right there, that is all you need to know is that He is able. He is able to keep you from falling and He has plans for you so follow that.
What advice would you give your former boss?
You probably should do it for the love of people and not money...
That part.
If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
One book that I would read for the rest of my life would be the B.I.B.L.E:
Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.
What are some projects you are working on right now?
I'm currently finishing up my second book, which is a devotional/ gratitude journal. I have found that life is much easier; windows and doors of opportunity are opened through the vehicle of gratitude and so that is
my biggest project and also looking into, maybe, starting a clothing line.
THESE BEAUTIFUL BEINGS WILL LEAVE A MARK ON YOUR LIFE WITH THEIR INSPIRATIONAL STORIES AND PROJECTS.
EXPRESSIVE VISIONARY COURAGEOUSLY EXPRESSIVE VISIONARY COURAGEOUSLY REKINDLES THE CONNECTION BETWEEN REKINDLES THE CONNECTION BETWEEN ART AND HUMAN EMOTION ART AND HUMAN EMOTION IN A REFRESHING, BOLD WAY IN A REFRESHING, BOLD WAY
Tell us about your background as an owner & visionary?
I have been professionally pursuing since 2016 graduating with a BFA in graphic design from Georgia State University.
What or who inspires you the most on your journey?
There are a multitude of things that inspire me. From a technical perspective, I am inspired by colors that normally don’t go well
together but I love having the ability to create where these colors can live together cohesively. I am also inspired by a more philosophical and psychological perspective on how the human mind works. How we are very emotionally driven and emotionally connected beings. I am also inspired from a humanistic perspective by mental health. In turn, how kind we are to ourselves determines how kind we are to each other. Our emotions drive us to respond in
certain ways. Through my work, I want to capture what goes on in my mind in a very abstract and colorful way to help others relate to themselves.
What word of advice would you give someone who is just starting out in your field?
The first step in any field, not just this one, is to be willing to learn; Learning requires failures and (risk) assessments, which ultimately get you to your goal.
"Something I’m still practicing is delayed gratification. Nothing happens overnight."
Second, something I'm still practicing is delayed gratification. Nothing happens overnight. It’s all a work in progress, and if you are dedicated, determined, and have willpower, and ultimately discipline you can accomplish all that you set yourself up for. Also, staying focused requires planning. Knowing how you want to accomplish a goal is vital. A blueprint or process can keep you motivated to complete whatever is set in front of you. Bonus, make sure you get insurance under your legalized business on whatever you deem valuable! Make sure you can have security on physical and virtual assets, so if you are at a loss or incurred damages, you are covered/protected. Lastly, as an artist, authenticate and copyright your work. What advice would you give your haters/doubters?
Thank you...
1. For putting that fire under my bottom to go get what I needed.
2. For making me realize how to focus on my goals and not your hate. I am grateful.
3. For the unintended support.
4. For keeping me at the forefront of your mind. You too can be great if you weren’t concentrating on hating someone else’s success.
What are some projects you're working on right now?
I am currently working [on] getting my website up and running. I have a personal project, starting in December [2021], creating, collages, with specific materials to convey whatever emotion comes to the forefront. I am studying why the
Romanticism art period is considered to be the most emotional, which is in opposition to the Enlightenment art period that correlates with my obsession for understanding logic and rational things which differentiates humans from other animals.

Needless to say, I ran across your profile on social media and was IMPRESSED! Please give us greater insight into who you are and what it is that you do.
Oh heeey! I’m Breanna Powell, aka thebusybre and I am an influencer + social media manager! I graduated from NC State (2 times) with degrees in social work. Though I am no longer doing social work directly, I am definitely still using my degrees to build connections with and serve the communities I’m privileged to be a part of.
Recall a moment when you almost abandoned your ambitions. Who or what inspired you to press on? How were you convinced it was worth the trouble?
Back in June when I abruptly quit my job! I got student loans, okay?! So the thought of no longer working in the social work field and pursuing social media full time felt very scary. But confirmation from God and support from the people I get to do life with, definitely inspired me to just go for it...fear and all! The fear and anxiety that I felt about
pursuing something new are what let me know that everything was gonna be worth it.
What word of advice would you give someone who is just starting out in your field or experiencing a rough patch as they make efforts to reach the next level?
Take. Your. Time. There is no need for you to try to catch up to other folks in your field who have been doing this longer than you. There is no need to rush your process because you feel like you’re behind
some made up schedule society has placed on you. Take your time! Learn everything you can from as many people as you can - even people in different industries. Allow yourself to be a beginner.
What are 3 traits you believe make a person successful in their area of work?
Vulnerability, Faith, Patience.
Are there any projects in the works that your supporters should be on the lookout for in the near future?
Ya know, I’m just doing what I can to continue growing my business and my influence! So be on the lookout for more client success stories and more PAID partnerships (cause we not workin' for free no more).
How have you dealt with those who have doubted you along your journey?
What a great question! I’m gonna be honest and say that because I’m so intentional with the communities I connect
myself to, I don’t think anyone ever doubted me. I often doubted myself, so I’ll give these 3 tips to me:
1. Be willing to get it wrong. You are not going to know everything, and that’s okay.
2. Trust this journey. Know that God does nothing without intention and you are exactly where you were meant to be.
3. EMPTY THE CLIP! You are so full of creative vision and ideas and the world is waiting to see all that you can / will do.
Take your time! Learn everything you can from as many people as you can - even people in different industries. Allow yourself to be a beginner."

I'm passionate about health and fitness. Also, connecting with my community and helping others. I was able to bring all this together when I became the owner of my shake and tea bar. I became the owner at the prime age of 23, we survived a global pandemic and we are still kicking. My favorite part of all this [is] getting to be a place where people can come and get a glimpse of positivity in their day. Leaving the bar feeling better than how they came in.

My Slogan: I specialize in the impossible.
Recall a moment when you almost abandoned
ambitions. Who or what inspired you to press on? How were you convinced it was worth the trouble?
I was working as a Paralegal full time in a demanding position and working my real estate business at the same time. I was constantly on my phone and was warned by HR that this was unacceptable largely due to the types of cases the firm handled. I was Blessed that my business grew so quickly, but I was burning the candle at both ends at that point. Honestly, I was fearful of leaving my security. I was going to simply put my license on hold and continue to work full time. My husband was the one the who told me that I could not quit real estate. He was the one that continuously assured me that I would be successful and that I should never give up on myself.
What word of advice would you give someone who is just starting out in your field or experiencing a rough patch as they make efforts to reach the next level? I
Do not give up! Ask all the questions, real estate can be intimidating, the industry is filled with knowledgeable professionals who are at the top of their game, do not be afraid to ask questions!
What are 3 traits you believe make a person successful in their area of work? Explain why.
My knowledge, ability to meet people where they are and my negotiating skills.
As a Realtor, I service a wide range of clients, that purchase in different price points, I do a good job of interviewing and assessing my clients needs and wants at the time and where they see themselves in the next 3-5 years.
I am client centric, I pride myself on educating my clients and providing potential outcomes in order to better prepare them for the transaction.
I believe my negotiating skills are superior because I treat each transaction as though it is my own. I negotiate fiercely on behalf of my client
because they have entrusted me to do so.
What are 3 general tips you would like to give those who have doubted you along your journey?
1. Validation is from within
2. Be Mindful of your thinking
3. I am not for everyone and I am okay with that.
Are there any projects in the works that your supporters should be on the lookout for in the near future?
There are several amazing loan programs rolling out specifically for professionals, doctors, lawyers and teachers. Programs that waive PMI (Private Mortgage Insurance). No money down programs and programs that will provide a plan to get your credit mortgage ready in the event you are not quite there! I basically have a program for every stage of life, the dream of homeownership is within reach!

Needless to say, I ran across your profile on social media and was IMPRESSED! Please give us greater insight into who you are and what it is that you do.
My name is Brandon Miller and I am a father of 3 kids all under 6. 2 girls and 1 boy. I have been married to my high school squeeze for 12 years now. It's wild saying all of that lol. I am the owner and sole employee of a creative services business, Brandon Dejon LLC. Also doing business as Brandon Dejon Creative Services. I started my
entrepreneurial journey in 2013 and started my LLC in the fall of 2017. At first I specialized in graphic design and my company's name was Brandon Graphic Design. However, 2 years later, I decided to add photography, and videography to the business and amended the company name. That's when I landed on the name Brandon Dejon LLC.
Recall a moment when you almost abandoned your ambitions. Who or what inspired you to press on? How were you convinced it was worth the trouble?
When it comes to my current business, I've never almost abandoned my ambition to succeed and press on. It was my previous career ambition to play pro basketball that I abandoned prematurely. I wouldn't call it a regret presently but at one point I did regret it. That experience taught me that if I was going to go after something, to go all in. Put my best foot forward, take the hits, and keep my eye on the prize. My wife Jessica has been that voice, challenging me, and pushing me when I feel low on gas. In 2013, the movie, "Secret Life of Walter Mitty" with Ben
Stiller gave me that last bit of inspiration I needed to make the decision to eventually go into business for myself as a creative. Since I was a kid I've always wanted to be a National Geographic photographer. Capturing landscapes, animals, structures, and people. There's just something about it that has always called out to me.
What word of advice would you give someone who is just starting out in your field or experiencing a rough patch as they make efforts to reach the next level?
For the person that is just starting out in my field, I would say keep learning and always be searching for knowledge. Never get too comfortable. Be critical of yourself. Not in a damaging way but in a way that builds you up to be the best you can be. Things in our field are always changing, so you have to be adaptive and ready. Lastly, you have to invest in your business. Be very strategic in this. Keeping it 100, our field is expensive, but through a well thought out
strategy and getting paid what you are worth, it'll all work out.
To those experiencing a rough patch, I would say to remember why you took this journey in the first place. Everyone experiences difficulty. That includes the endless success stories on social media, television, and in magazines. You are only seeing the result of hard work and sacrifice. Every challenge you face straight up and get through will make you stronger and stronger. Then you'll look back and see that it wasn't as bad as you thought, and because you made it through those challenges you'll now be ready for the obstacle presently in your way.
What are 3 traits do you believe make a person successful in their area of work? Explain why.
Knowledge, integrity, and good work ethic are 3 traits that come to mind to make a person successful.
Knowledge, because the more knowledge you have, the more valuable you are to others. Especially when you have
a business that provides services. Knowledge breeds confidence. Knowledge allows you to be your best.
Integrity, because if you aren't keeping it real with yourself, how will you become better? If you can't be honest with yourself, what makes you think you'll be honest with clients or peers in the industry? How will people trust you to deliver? That's everything. People have to trust in you and what you provide. Integrity is a win for you and everyone surrounding you.
Good work ethic, because that is the key to a healthy business. Good work ethic encompasses reliability, dedication, and productivity. It shows that you have a sense of responsibility. Focusing on quality. Professionalism at its best. Without a good ork ethic your business will stay stagnate and/or never get off the ground.
Are there any projects in the works that your supporters should be on the lookout for in the near future?
I have a few other
business owners that I've done projects for that are top notch and I rock with what they are about. For several of the businesses I've done projects for, I am also a customer because ultimately if you believe in a person or product, you should support them. Nothing like seeing people achieve their dreams.
If you are in the Peachtree Corners area or don't mind the drive, and you have a pet, check out Peach Paws Animal Hospital. Great staff and facility! I would recommend them to anyone. I designed their logo, took a few photos, and shot a video for them. Western Immortal Tea Company, is an online tea company that provides the best tea I have ever had. I made the transition from drinking coffee to tea and It's been great. Check out their website. They share the knowledge, history, and culture of the different teas, go indepth with the process, and have a wide variety of different teas. Teas from Japan, China, Africa, etc... I designed their company logo. Brims and Lows, is an apparel company. I love
their branding and designs. Good people. I designed their logo and t-shirt designs. I've purchased several t-shirts from them myself.
What are 3 general tips you would like to give those who have doubted you along your journey?
I like this question! Support your friends and family. Every successful person had a beginning. Every successful person had individuals and/or groups that supported and encouraged them in the beginning and ones that didn't. Have faith in your friends and family.
If you have a need that they happen to provide, give them a shot. Don't negatively assume. Critique them in a healthy way. Help them win. Be a good part of their success story.
Be critical of yourself. Not in a damaging way but in a way that builds you up to be the best you can be."

My name is Jonathan Mathews. Known as Rackedup_jm and sneakerrackusa. I started selling sneakers as a side hustle during the pandemic on GOAT and StockX. I then realized how much money was taken out for seller fees and thought that money should go into my pockets. This birthed my business. Once I started getting a client base I
thought, hey I should make clothes too. This way people can buy a whole outfit. I have a men's clothing line called RACKEDUP and a women's clothing line called RACKEDUP SHAWTY. Not only am I selling sneakers and clothes, but I also manage music artists. Sneakers and clothes go hand in hand with music. I believe that they all intertwine.
Recall a moment when you almost abandoned your ambitions. Who or what inspired you to press on? How were you convinced it was worth the trouble?
A wise man once said things you want in life don't come easy. You get what you put into it. This made me realize that if you want it bad enough, you have to go after it full force. If you put in half effort then you will only get half the results.
What word of advice would you give someone who is just starting out in your field or experiencing a rough patch as they make efforts to reach the next level?
The key to this field is to do your research. Know what you are looking for
and find multiple outlets in acquiring it. Something else you should do is network. It’s important to make connections.
What are 3 traits you believe make a person successful in their area of work? Explain why.
Persistence, transparency, and loyalty.
First, you need to be persistent. You need to constantly push your product on a regular basis. You don’t want to be forgotten.
You need transparency when talking to clients about the products they want to buy. You need to be honest about the quality of the product and the condition it’s in. You also want to sell genuine authentic products. You also need loyalty. You need to keep the promises you make to your customers so you are known as a trusted brand.
How have you dealt with those who have doubted you along your journey?
A lot of times, your closest friends want to see you fall out of jealousy. You have to turn that hate into motivation.

What word of advice would you give someone who is just starting out in your field or experiencing a rough patch as they make efforts to reach the next level?
I would tell people who are struggling with trying times to...
Trust Themselves and Clear the Fog aka Chaos or Smoke...
We tend to be our own worst critics and that alone can be tough. But it can also be tough dealing with other people's opinions of you and how you do what you do. Or maybe it can be tough seeing other people succeed at the things that you want to do as you compare what you think are your shortcomings. And honestly, just walking outside and seeing billboards, clicking the channel for some reality TV, or just scrolling your timeline on Social Media can all be very tough and exhausting to look at because of the Tone it sets...Perfection.
My advice is to continue to trust yourselves. Do not get caught up in what other people are doing unless you want to be just like them. What the media, TV, and other distractions don't show and glorify is the process. We are always shown the end result when things are already fine as wine.
Starting anything new takes time, consistency, and passion. And again, respecting the process gives you way more of a better understanding of why you're going through what you're going through. But as long as you never give up you will always win in the end. There are a lot of distractions out there which is what I address as the chaos, but you must remember your WHY. WHY you are doing what you are doing.
I've learned in life this... Every level is a new Devil meaning its levels to everything. And you must first conquer one level before you get to the next. This again comes back to respecting the process. Everything that we go through now is in preparation for later. You

Passion- "Your Reason" It's what keeps you going!

I almost gave up on my goal about a few years ago. It's hard to stay focused when you feel like no one is recognizing your craft but I realized it’s not recognition that’s needed; it was me that needed to keep going and grind harder. It’s my kid's husband, friends, and mom who keep me inspired. They remind me of my position in life. I'm built to fall but I'm also built to get back up and push harder with each fall. Never stay
down. As I stand today I, indeed, have recognized I have learned to not wait on people's approval. Approval will find me and these falls and stumbles are most certainly worth the risk. I’m better off today than I was yesterday, gracefully. I know that I’m definitely built to create joy and laughs more than a little

Recall a moment when you almost abandoned your ambitions. Who or what inspired you to press on? How were you convinced it was worth the trouble?
When I lost my little brother to gun violence I became angry at the world and that very traumatic situation is both the reason as well as the inspiration to press on. After silently suffering for so long, it was time to grow and growth is always worth it!
What word of advice would you give someone who is just starting out in your field or experiencing a rough patch as they make efforts to reach the next level?
I would tell them that things take time, don't rush!
What are 3 traits you believe make a person successful in their area of work? Explain why.
Consistency because nothing will happen unless you make it happen. It takes at least 50 twist to
get a screw out the wall. lol Keep at it Ambition. You have to want it bad enough. A Plan. An idea is just an idea without a plan

Needless to say, I ran across your profile on social media and was IMPRESSED! Please give us greater insight into who you are and what it is that you do.
Hey! I’m AVB , recently Grammy Nominated producer with the UCMG founded by Grammy Award Winning Duo ( Ayo N Keyz ). Born and raised from Orlando, FL. I’ve been producing for about 4 years now. I first learned about producing during my sophomore year of high school, but always
been involved with music since I was 6 playing drums at my local church. I had the pleasure to wok with artists like Queen Naija, Eric Bellinger, Mario, Rotimi, etc., to name a few.
Recall a moment when you almost abandoned your ambitions. Who or what inspired you to press on? How were you convinced it was worth the trouble?
A moment I recall when I almost abandoned my ambitions is when I wasn’t necessarily getting placements out the gate when I first began, producing. Like any new producer first starting out, we think our music out the gate is ready to go! But it wasn’t what I thought it would be. I had to understand that it was a grind to improve in my craft. If I were to listen to my beats from then to now it would be embarrassing lol But the people who definitely inspired me to get better at what I do would definitely be my big bros Ayo N Keyz. They produced "Open Interlude"
Bryson Tiller on the “Trapsoul” album (2015). That song actually inspired me to become a producer! To keep the story short, we ended up meeting each other around 2018 and ever since then they’ve been my mentors/family. Just being a fly on the wall every session ( even if I wouldn’t be plugged up on aux) helped a lot just to be a student of the game and learn. They’ve always made it aware to me and the team to always be consistent and hustle for it!
What word of advice would you give someone who is just starting out in your field or experiencing a rough patch as they make efforts to reach the next level?
A word of advice I’d give to someone just starting out is to be PATIENT! I know it’s cliché but it's so vital if you want to be in this industry. Everything won’t be easy at first but with persistence and hustle you’ll do just fine. I know for me (to be transparent) I still struggle with being
patient sometimes but God's timing is the right timing! So make it second nature to be patient and all together have FUN doing what you love . Once you start not being passionate about the craft or anything in life then everything will just feel like a 9 - 5 job honestly.
What are 3 traits you believe make a person successful in their area of work? Explain why.
I think being patient, consistent, and overall dedication to what you love to do makes you successful in whatever areas of work you do. I believe hard work beats talent every time whether we think or not. I think talent is just a plus benefit. Anyone can be a student and learn whatever area they want to be in.
Are there any projects in the works that your supporters should be on the lookout for in the near future?
Yes! Of course many more placements are on the way! Right now one of our artists who’s also signed to the"UCMG“ singer/ songwriter “Asia Graves”
just dropped her EP “"If You Knew Better” out on all platforms! Was made very in house by me and our other producers signed to label (Marco Mavy, Clint Ford, Ceebtheproducer, and Sangria). Also shoutout to our very own Head of A&R/A&Rs ( Kia, Jaze and Bre) who Executive produced the EP as well! More music is definitely on the way for her , she’s definitely our main focus for this upcoming new year. Super amazing artist on the come up , I’m really excited for her to share the new music she’s been making lately. Definitely someone to look out for come 2022!
What are 3 general tips you would like to give those who have doubted you along your journey?
Those who have doubted me along my journey , and more to come just motivated me to keep going honestly. I’m rarely the person to bluntly address people who doubt me or hate on what I do. I just simply make my music and accolades do all the talking! You’ll always have people who will not be on board with you but
Remember to always make your work do all the talking. As long as I have people who support me and cheer me on at what I do, I’ll just focus on them instead of negative energy. I’m really big on energy!
Would like to give a big thank you to my brothers Ayo N Keyz for always putting me team in position to be what we do! Shout out manager/mentor Kia goat couldn’t have anything without her! but love for my UCMG Upperclassman Music family! Everyone contributed in my life it’s all love ! Y’all make follow our teams @theucmg , also shoutout to @426co by the Clint Ford. excited about what's out with them!
I believe hard work beats talent every time whether we think or not."

I am currently a doctoral student in a Counselor Education program. I love all things wellness, which is what you came across on my social media. I've genuinely fallen in love with the connection between mind, body, and soul. Understanding how physical movement
impacts your mental health is something I enjoy sharing with others. I enjoy teaching dance. One of my degrees is in fine arts. I love working with pageant participants in order to help them prep for competition. Lastly (but most definitely not least), I am the fiancé to the most wonderful man. I cannot wait to marry him next year, and promote black love, prompt loving black men, and create a beautiful black family.
Recall a moment when
you almost abandoned your ambitions. Who or what inspired you to press on? How were you convinced it was worth the trouble?
Just this past year I found myself faced with this. I found myself discouraged because engagement and interaction is just not something I seem to get on my page although I see that my content is being watched. It can be very frustrating when you need the engagement to move you from one level to the
next business wise. However, what shifted my perspective understanding that it not the ONLY thing. realize and appreciate those who do engage with my content, therefore I will continue to be consistent in what put out. Reminding myself that's great, but is quality authenticity. Reminding myself not to change narrative just because someone does appear to appreciate journey was a big lesson have learned in various aspects of my life.
What word of advice would you give someone who is starting out in your field or experiencing rough patch as they make efforts to reach the next level?
Do not change your narrative just because someone does appear to appreciate your journey. Someone reading. Watching learning.
What are 3 traits believe make a person successful in their area of work? Explain why.
Discipline - because it outweighs motivation. It will see you through on your lowest and roughest days.
Discernment - because it enables you to obtain and use constructive criticism while also freeing yourself from the critics who never wrote a book.
Grace - because you are able to give yourself space to grow without falling into complacency.
What are 3 general tips you would like to give those who have doubted you along your journey?
Remember your, "Why." Think about what originally drew you to your journey. Fall back in love with that and don't allow outside factors to steal it away from you.

My name is Dwayne Johnson. Yes, I know (lol). I go by Wayne, and I am the CEO of Wayne Shot It Visuals LLC. We are a media production company who specialize in film and photography.
Recall a moment when you almost abandoned your ambitions. Who or
inspired to press on? How were you convinced it was worth the trouble?
Sheesh. This morning? Haha. Sorry, I kid a lot. But it comes from an honest place. I always have times where I question myself and my ambitions. Most of the time it never gets to the point where I seriously think about giving up though. However, I can recall this one time though, where I really considered calling it quits and "getting a regular job". It happened at a shoot actually. I was out on
location doing a lifestyle shoot for a music artist. Nothing crazy, just me, the client, and my camera. Sounds pretty simple right? Well, somehow I had managed to forget both batteries to my camera at home and home wasn't just around the corner. To make matters worse, this was the second consecutive time that I had forgotten a vital piece of equipment for a shoot with this same client. I was livid. On my way to the nearest Best Buy, to get
a battery I came down so hard on myself. Saying things like, "How could I be so stupid?!" "Why am I such an idiot?! See?! This is why you're not where you want to be in life, because of dumb stuff like this!" "You should just quit, because you are disgracing yourself, your name, and everyone who ever invested in you. Eff this I'll be better off working a regular. I'm done!"
It may sound crazy, but yes, all of that from me forgetting a battery. I'm so hard on myself because I have very high expectations for myself. I know what I am trying to accomplish and what it takes to get there, and for that I am very critical of myself. The funny thing is, the client wasn't even upset. He was more concerned about it not shortening his time booked, which I assured him I would accommodate him for the time loss. And here I was ready to throw it all away for a minor mistake. Inexcusable, but minor, and human. I cooled off a bit by the time I got back to set and had a great shoot. It was his reactions to the images and his gratitude
shown after we wrapped that made me realize that I couldn't give up. Not even if I wanted to. This dream and passion of mine has become much bigger than just me. I've been able to touch and impact the lives of others through my craft. I can't let that go because of human error. Those things are going to happen. What is more important is how you react and handle those situations. I learned a valuable lesson that day. Be kinder to yourself, you're not perfect. No one expects you to be. You have to allow yourself to be human. Otherwise, you'll go crazy and possibly be the reason for your own demise. When I got home that night, I laughed about all the madness I had cultivated within myself. Never again I said. And while I still battle with being kinder to myself, I don't let myself go back to that space. It's not an option. I'll keep striving for better until my last breath.
What word of advice would you give someone who is just starting out in your field or experiencing a rough
patch as they make efforts to reach the next level?
Well, if you are just starting out, you've already made one of the toughest decisions to follow your dream despite any outside influences that have probably projected some pushback onto you. That in itself is commendable because so many don't have it in them to pursue what truly makes them happy. As artists, we go through a lot mentally and emotionally. We feel, a lot. And in a super sensitive yet desensitized world, it can be really tough to put yourself out there.
My advice: Seek mentorship, a solid support system, and likeminded individuals. Stay hungry, even after you hit the big milestones. Celebrate every win, big and small but don't get comfortable. Don't stay somewhere for too long. Read. Do your own research. Take smart risks. Stay away from close minded people and don't tell anyone your dreams. Not everyone wants to see you win, not even [your] family. Just make it happen, they'll catch on
later. Make your peace your priority. Know that you will fail but its ok, all the greats failed more than they succeeded. You have time, no rush. Do things for you, not for others. Let the art drive your business, not the other way around. Lastly, but most importantly, seek God and want to live for Him. We are all flawed in His eyes, but we should always want to do our part in making sure His will gets done.
What are 3 traits you believe make a person
successful in their area of work? Explain why.
Passionate. When you have a real passion for something you'd do it all day for free if you could. You're not in it for the money and that will show. You'll be consumed with whatever it is and you will want to master it. That will show through your work and people will feel that energy and be drawn to you. The money will come
Observant. You have to know how to pay attention to detail. In your work, in
people, and in the environment you are in. Learn how to listen more than you speak and how to read a room. This will help you navigate through life.
Integrity. This is what will set you apart from most and have you connected with the right people. In a cold, selfish world, everyone is out for themselves. People will sometimes do anything to get to the top. You don't want to be that person, trust me. It'll do more bad
than good. When you are genuinely a good person with good morals, people will trust you and enjoy working with you. That will take you further than anything honestly.
What's a word of advice you would like to give those who have doubted you along your journey?
1. Try harder
2. Seek God
3. Stay tuned, there's so much more to come.
Are there any projects in the works that your supporters should be on the lookout for in the near future?
I have a lot in the works! Too much to speak of. Remember, don't tell people your dreams right? Well, you don't want to tell people your plans either. Most people just want to be nosy anyway. Not saying the world is out to get you but I've learned that it's better when you make less announcements about what you have in the works. Y'all will just have to stay tuned to my journey on IG. I'll keep y'all as updated as possible along the way.
Big things coming in the new year though. More growth, more storytelling, more life.
"Celebrate every win, big and small but don't get comfortable."
