Their generative artificial intelligence (AI) supported by their wet-laboratory and their in-house generated training dataset, solves a decades old problem of targeting ‘undruggable’ proteins. It is a new hope to drug the remaining 85% of proteins in the human proteome that we don’t currently have drugs for.

An aptamer is a short, single strand of laboratory-created DNA that flexes and folds into dynamic 3D structures. This enables highly specific binding to proteins and small molecule targets, a wider target landscape than small molecules and antibodies. Their small size (10x smaller than an antibody) enables transport across the blood brain barrier and deeper tissue penetration.

PentaBind’s AI platform incorporates multiple drug-like qualities in one step of aptamer design and a recent study demonstrated that their model identified 300x more hits than wet-lab aptamer design, saving an estimated 38 years. PentaBind has been shortlisted as New Startup of the Year by Cancer Research Horizons and is backed by KQ Labs accelerator (founded by the Francis Crick Institute, Europe’s largest biotech research organisation).
