ABOUT THE NY & NJ MINORITY SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL The New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council, Inc. (The Council™), established in 1973, is a vital link between major corporations and minority business enterprises (MBEs). Each year, member corporations have reported billions of dollars spent with Council-certified MBEs. Serving the New York and New Jersey region, The Council is one of the 23 regional affiliates of the National Minority Supplier Development Council, Inc. (NMSDC).

We identify minority suppliers; certify bona-fide minority business enterprises; and facilitate procurement opportunities between major purchasing entities and Council-certified minority suppliers. That supplier group includes Asian, Black, Hispanic, and Native-American businesses located throughout the state of New York and Northern and Central New Jersey including Trenton. The Council’s membership consists of Fortune 500 corporations, government agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations.

The Council encourages its membership of Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations, to include MBEs as their regular suppliers of products, goods and services. Through its MBE-certification program, The Council links a myriad of businesses for local, national, and global impact. The Council is committed to advancing supplier diversity initiatives to a world-class level.

MISSION The mission of The Council is to:

1.

Continuously enhance and expand our program offerings to create high level value for all

stakeholders (Corporate Members and MBEs);

2.

Certify and develop ethnic-minority business enterprises to build a sustainable diverse supply chain;

3.

Provide a platform to connect suppliers with private and public sector procurement opportunities; and

4.

Advocate for the growth and development of our Corporate Member and MBE business relationships.

VISION To be the preeminent go-to organization for supplier diversity, incorporating best practices to certify, develop, and mentor ethnic-minority owned businesses and support the efforts of our corporate membership to build a more ethnically diverse and sustainable supply chain.

VALUE PROPOSITION The Council actively seeks viable ethnic-minority suppliers for procurement opportunities with its membership.

The Council enables corporate members to diversify their base of competitive suppliers and strengthen the corporate supply chain. This “linkage process” increases opportunities for council-certified suppliers.

WELCOME REMARKS TO OUR 45TH GALA Good Evening Partners, Members and Friends: It is our pleasure to welcome you to the 45th Annual Partnership Awards Gala, on behalf of the New York and New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council (The Council), Board of Directors, and MBE Input Committee. Many of you have played an integral role in the overall success of our organization.

This evening we will recognize and award top suppliers, advocates, and corporations that continually demonstrate innovation, and provide value=added services and excellence in supplier diversity.

Dear Friends: It is a great pleasure to welcome everyone to the New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council’s 2018 Partnership Awards Gala.

This city works best when all New Yorkers, regardless of race, gender, or ethnicity, have the resources they need to contribute in our economy. We are reaching historic highs when it comes to awarding contracts to minority- and women-owned businesses and entrepreneurs, and as part of our ambitious OneNYC goals, we are reminding all available M/WBEs interested in doing business with the city that we are in fact open for business. Organizations like the New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council have been terrific partners in this mission, and since 1973, it has worked hard to uplift and empower the minority business community through its ongoing advocacy, support services, and programming. What a pleasure it is for me to welcome everyone attending the 45th Anniversary Partnership Awards Gala of the New York / New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council!

As NMSDC’s new President and CEO, I am especially gratified to celebrate the fact that so many of you in New York and New Jersey – whether corporate clients or MBEs – are so committed to our mission. You continue to build and expand on the essential business partnerships that make minority supplier development a value proposition for everyone.

The theme of tonight's gala, “Reflections of Excellence in Diversity”, recognizes achievement. It is also a challenge. All of us are called to innovate and grow to meet the future, from aspiring MBEs to great corporations in search of the best supplier. That includes those of us in the NMSDC network who certify, develop, connect and advocate for minority supplier development.

Since assuming the Presidency of NMSDC, I am more convinced than ever that we need to use our historic success as a platform to raise our game – to think boldly, grow wisely, act decisively as an organization, to generate enduring, sustainable success for the cause of minority supplier development.

MINORITY BUSINESS ENTERPRISE INPUT COMMITTEE (MBEIC) PURPOSE The Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) is a group of certified minority business enterprise representatives, who provide counsel and recommendations to ensure that the programs and projects implemented by the New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council, Inc. (The Council™) are relevant and supportive of minority business development. The MBEIC is structured to have officers that provide for an organized and formal mechanism, through which recommendations can be shared with all MBEs this Committee represents.

OBJECTIVES 1. Facilitate the expansion of the minority business community.

2. Recruit new MBEs to be certified, and to participate in and support MBEIC activities.

3. Recommend minority suppliers to register with The Council™.

4. Support The Council™ staff and council activities.

5. Establish working relationships with Standing Committees of the Board.

6. Identify needs of the minority business community and recommend specific programmatic solutions

to the Board, through the MBEIC representatives who are elected to the Board of Directors of The

Council™.

7. Report to The Council™ Chairperson on the progress of the local and national Minority Business

Through her passion of storytelling, she later founded CatScape Productions, a full-service, multimedia production company committed to creating and producing award-winning commercials, films, documentaries, music videos, and original TV content that is responsible, entertaining, and socially charged. Cathleen endeavors to change how people of color are portrayed in the media.

As a mother of four, Cathleen’s deepest passion has always been helping women and children. She founded Trigg House, a not-for-profit organization that provides housing, education, mentorship, and counseling for teens aging out of the foster care system, to help them transition into the world. This cause is personal to Cathleen because she spent part of her early life in foster care before being adopted. .
