How should your Canada Express Entry profile be updated to reflect the new TEER/NOC codes? The National Occupation Classification (NOC) system will switch to the 2021 edition on November 16 according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Here are the implications of that change for Express Entry applicants. First off, work experience is categorised under NOC skill types 0, A, or B under the foremost recent NOC system (NOC 2016). The new Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) system are going to be used by IRCC starting on November 16.

The majority of employment will remain in the TEER category that corresponds to their NOC skill level, consistent with IRCC, but "certain jobs may change to a replacement TEER category" (more on that below). Additionally, all profession codes are going to be five digits long instead of four under the new TEER system. This is how the skill type categories of the current NOC system match up with the TEER categories of the 2021 NOC system. Skill Type 0 (NOC 2016) translates to TEER 0 (NOC 2021) Skill A (NOC 2016) translates to TEER 1 (NOC 2021) Skill B (NOC 2016) translates to TEER 2 (NOC 2021)
