ART BY CORBUSIER
• Villa Savoye was designed by Swiss-French architect Charles-Édouard ‘Le Courbusier’ Jeanneret. • From construction to completion, it was built between the years of 1929 - 1931. • It is often described as the “ultimate” modern house, and has influenced “modern” design moreso than any other design. • Is the first house Le Corbusier designed that incorporated all five ideas he himself established as necessary in architecture. • Abandoned by the Savoye family during WWII. • The house fell under occupation of the Axis and Allied Powers. • Reclaimed by the town of Poissey, for use as a youth center, and had later began planning to demolish the building. • Protest from architects, and intervention by Le Corbusier himself saved the building, which was refurbished over a number of years, and still stands today in its original location. • One of many works by Corbusier, that are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites. • Le Corbusier developed the anthropometric scale known as “Le Modulor”.
