2021 Just like 2020, this year has been a year unlike any other, but wow, was this year awesome as far as Camp Pagweak was concerned. We weren’t able to host any school groups, both of our annual celebrations at camp got cancelled, the Ladies Retreat had to be moved and we had one rental cancellation but yes, I believe the year of resident camping was awesome and we have God to thank. We got ve (5) student grants, two provincial and three federal, we got a grant from the Canadian Baptist Women, a grant from the Cumberland Child and Youth Foundation, a grant from the Atlantic Baptist Foundation and a generous donation from one of our churches, Bass River, which had to close. We made a new outdoor worship center courtesy of pews donated by First Baptist New Glasgow and Parrsboro churches, and the wood chips under those pews courtesy of Nova Tree. We got new camp re benches courtesy of Ralph Weeks in Wallace. We nished and then used our new Bouldering Shelter, our Archery center and our amazing Bike Course. We had no real idea if we would for sure be allowed to open but we proceeded as if we would. We had no clear idea of what protocols we would have and then during sta training the nal word came from our government and the protocols we were asked to follow were exactly what we had anticipated and planned for. Yes, we had to have slightly smaller camps for a majority of the summer but we opened again and every week had great numbers and great kids. We ended up having 2 baptisms and 16 new believers in Christ. We had no sta con ict, no sta drama, no sta disruptions. We changed a lot due to Covid and our new program activities, but it truly was a blessed summer at Pagweak. Our Facebook page got updated and was being liked and followed more than ever. We had many parents calling our registrar and asking can they come back in a later week. We even had a waiting list for the nal weeks of camp. Yes, God is good !!!! In my 2020 report I talked about our vision for a “fuller” time director and using the funds from Bass River we have taken another step in that direction. We have redone 3 rooms in the main building so that we will now have 2 dorm rooms with a total of 11 bunk beds or 22 beds, and 2 new shower rooms. All this to make us more attractive to rental groups or retreats in the spring and fall. We can now say that we can host up to 25 guests and on those cold or wet spring or fall mornings they will not have to go outside until the weather warms up or changes. They can eat, sleep, shower and go to the bathroom all in our main building. For the upcoming summer we are also planning on adding a new Frisbee golf course, a spider web activity (part of our low adventure course) and a new tire based challenge course. I, David Throop, continue as your Camp Director and love it. I am privileged to be able to play at camp, work with the amazing sta God sends us each year, get to know the campers and their families each summer, host rental and retreats and watch your prayers be answered and your donations be put to use to grow God’s kingdom. On behalf of Camp Council I want to personally thank each of our churches and our associations, Cumberland, Northeast Nova and African for their wonderful support this year! Also a special thanks to Ruth Rushton who has served for many, many years in many roles but lately as our Camp Cheerleader and our Registrar. She has chosen to continue to pray for us but to step aside and let someone else cheer us on. Thank you Ruth for your service in His ministry all these years.
