A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT
Helen Hernandez For the last 35 years, the Imagen Awards have sought to bring attention to our creative talent in television and film. While there is no doubt about the quality of talent and creativity in our community—as evident in this year’s nominees—too often we remain invisible to mainstream entertainment decision-makers and to other entertainment awards. So, to our industry we say, our talent, our work is important. And to you we say, you are valued. You are vital to our shared success. Thank you to our sponsors who helped make today’s event possible: ABC, Disney Channel, Disney+, Disney Television Studios, Freeform, FX, Hulu, National Geographic, Comcast NBCUniversal Telemundo, Nielsen, WarnerMedia, Netflix, Lyn and Norman Lear, AIDS Healthcare Foundation/LOUD, Campanario Entertainment, HBO, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, ViacomCBS, and Viva Pictures. To our judges, who spent hundreds of hours screening this year’s entries, our deepest gratitude for your time and efforts to make tonight happen. In times that have never been this challenging, this year’s theme, “The Power of Our Voices,” speaks to remind each of us of how we can become the master of our destinies. With the Power of Our Voices, we need to speak up. We need to show up. We need to vote no matter how difficult that may be, or how inconsequential it may seem, or even how risky it may appear. Think of the shooting in El Paso last year, think of our immigrant children and their parents in cages, think of this pandemic and how we were kept in the dark of its potential devastation. Think of tampering with the voting act and the census; think of the crippling of our postal system. Think of repeated excesses of our patrols and police. Yes, it is time for our voices to be heard. Indeed, when lies and fake news are the currency of the day, it is vital we NOT be silenced, that we NOT be ignored. And that our institutions, which are lifelines of change, mechanisms to cleanse the poison, not be pushed aside. The Power of Our Voices could not be more timely. The Power of Our Voices could not be more important. We can no longer wait for others to determine our destiny. Let’s make a pact that every parent, every young adult over 18, every grandparent will take action, so they hear the power of our voices by voting. Whether by mail or in person, this is the most powerful act we can perform— the most important message for the country to hear-- and feel ---the Power of Our Voices. You matter. Your family matters. Your voice matters. The Power of Our Voices will determine to the quality of our life, of our children’s lives. The Power of Our Voices shapes the destiny of us all.

Mission The Imagen Foundation is an entertainment industry partner furthering employment opportunities and positive media images of the Latino community in television and film.
History - The Early Years The Imagen Foundation’s beginning dates back to a 1983 meeting between Television Producer Norman Lear and Helen Hernandez, Vice President of Public Affairs for his company, Embassy Communications. Lear was acutely aware of the near absence of positive portrayals of Latinos in the entertainment industry and understood the importance of positive images. The two met with leaders of The National Conference for Community and Justice (formerly the National Conference of Christians and Jews, or NCCJ), a respected non-sectarian human relations organization committed to fighting prejudice and racial tensions. Out of this meeting emerged the Imagen Awards competition. Imagen, now an annual Hollywood tradition, recognizes and encourages the entertainment industry to portray the Latino community in a positive and accurate manner. The Imagen tradition is one that recognizes those producers, directors, and writers who contribute from “behind the scenes, as well as the Latino actors portraying these positive roles. With financial support from Norman Lear, staff support from NCCJ, the cooperation of many entertainment companies, the leadership of Helen Hernandez and a voluntary advisory committee of industry professionals and community leaders, the Imagen Awards became a successful enterprise. Since 1985, the Imagen Awards, also known as the Latino Golden Globes, has brought out the best and most talented portrayals of Latinos in television and film.
The Imagen Foundation In 1995, the NCCJ relinquished responsibility of the Imagen Awards to a group of Latino leaders who had been instrumental in organizing the annual awards. The Imagen Foundation was incorporated in 1996 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization under Federal guidelines. As the organization was formed, a decision was made that all Board members represent key industry companies. The initial Board saw the opportunity to expand efforts to provide more opportunities for Latinos in the entertainment industry. In 2007, Imagen began a project to track Latino senior level executives in the industry. This effort, now known as the Imagen Most Powerful and Influential Latinos in Entertainment, has identified more than 100 industry executives as well as talent agents and managers in mainstream media. This list is announced annually and has provided a networking opportunity for executives during the celebratory reception. The Imagen Foundation continues to be a resource and conduit for the entertainment industry and the Latino community. Imagen has evolved as an organization that uses its influence to promote, support, build bridges and connect national influencers, both Latino and non-Latino, with each other.

TONIGHT'S HOST
Aida Rodriguez Aida Rodriguez is an Afro-Latina, taking the world of entertainment by storm with her wit, strong performances and charismatic personality. Making history as the first Latina to appear in two comedy specials airing in one month on both HBO and Showtime, Rodriguez was handpicked by director Taylor Hackford for his film The Comedian starring Robert De Niro. In 2017, Coca Cola Global Women’s LINC Conference sponsored Rodriguez’s speech that modeled a TED Talk. Rodriguez has also appeared on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show, five-time host of the PBS Imagen Awards, NBC Last Comic Standing’s finals, TRUtv’s Laff Tracks, Nickelodeon Mom’s Night Out and Parental Discretion. Aida’s half-hour special was feature as part of Tiffany Haddish's breakout series They Ready which was executive produced by Haddish, Wanda Sykes and Paige Hurwitz for Netflix. She is currently in development on her half-hour scripted series with Warner Media, for which she will write, executive produce and star in. Haddish, Chris Case and Nastaran Dibai are also on board to executive produce. Rodriguez is also developing an animated series with ITV Studios and Nick Weidenfeld. She will produce her first one-hour special (also with Warner Media) for HBO Max. Aida Rodriguez wears many hats as comedian, actress, writer and mother. Sharing her point of view of the world, she writes comedy that is poignant and incisive. Her audiences often laugh hard, think hard and feel hard as her comedy is cathartic and confrontational. Known as Funny Aida, Rodriguez aims to challenge the norms of today and the discomfort or taboo-quality around controversial topics like race, gender, sexuality and family dynamics through her comedy. From the moment she takes the stage, the audience is engaged whether in laughter or in thought. Rodriguez’s comedy is not only medicine for the soul but it may one day just change the world.

Madison Reyes Madison Reyes (Julie) From a very young age Madison loved to sing and dance. She spent the first 10 years of her life in Brooklyn, NY and performed in as many school productions that would have her, before moving with her family to Allentown, PA. There her interest in theater and acting became even more of a focal point. She auditioned for roles in her middle school productions of The Lion King Junior and Aladdin, in which she landed the lead role of Princess Jasmine. Her last year of middle school, she auditioned and was accepted into a local performing arts school, The Arts Academy Charter Middle School, and this is when she really began to learn the ins and outs of the actor’s craft. From there she auditioned and was accepted to the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts. Here she learned character breakdown, stage movement, and voice training. Madison loves to help in the community and has been involved with the Girl Scouts for over 10 years. She loves spending time with friends and family, going to movies, and listening to Broadway plays. MUSIC PRODUCER/MUSIC DIRECTOR
Cheche Alara Cheche Alara has composed music for The Titan Games; (NBC) Death by Magic; (Netflix) To Tell the Truth; (ABC) and The ALMA Awards (NBC) among others. Yet credits tell only half the story. With over 20 years in music, a notable list of artists who’ve availed themselves to this multiple Latin Grammy Awards winner’s abilities are Natalia Lafourcade, Barbra Streisand, Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Mike Patton, Lady Gaga, Alejandro Sanz and Colbie Caillat—among others. In addition to his skills as a composer, he brings considerable expertise as music producer, arranger, music director, conductor and virtuoso keyboardist to the table—a skillset expansive enough to make him “one-stop shopping” for creators. Recalling the time, he was invited to join Barbra Streisand’s The Music, The Mem’ries, The Magic concert tour as keyboardist—then tasked to arrange and record the opening and closing sequences for the production of the tour’s 2017 Netflix special. He’s been brought in to helm recordings like Lafourcade’s Latin Grammy winning Musas, Thalia’s Habitame Siempre and Il Volo’s Grande Amore; to serve as Musical Director at the Grammys Premiere Ceremony, the Latin Grammys, and galas for Caetano Veloso, Shakira and Placido Domingo; leading Mike Patton’s Mondo Cane orchestra, penning arrangements and playing keys; and to create arrangements for Lady Gaga. Whatever the musical adventure, Alara brings something fundamental to the table beyond his considerable musical chops—a profound warmth and good humor that make him the guy that artists and creative execs want in the room. And whether that room is a recording studio, a concert hall—or a production office, what you get is a consummate player whose joy in creating music is utterly infectious, and whose generosity in composing, arranging and playing lifts up everyone in its presence. Those qualities have helped him orchestrate moments, not just tunes—such as pairing Luis Fonsi and Martina McBride at The ALMA Awards, and spearheading a duet between Robbie Williams and Thalia. His musical sensibility is global, but so is his ability to connect and establish trust with creative professionals. They may bring him in for his musical bona fides, but they want him around for that essential spark.
