I+N FCQSFF est de retour pour une troisième saison dédiée à la découverte de capsules étroitement tissées d’un instant, une pensée, une image en mouvement: le court métrage. Les esprits créatifs qui ont façonné ces moments, et les nombreuses histoires qu’ils racontent. Le court, voix de beaucoup de monde, permet d’explorer la narration authentique en rassemblant une multitudes d’expressions queer contemporaines. Des histoires dans lesquelles on peut se voir. Des histoires qui nous parlent.

I+N FCQSFF s’est construit par notre désir de créer un espace de découvertes et d’engagements via le format court. Continuant sa mission d’amplifier les nouvelles voix queer, la saison 03 inclut l’étape ultime du I+N StoryLab/ histoires queer contemporaines, notre initiative de mentorat de scénarisation qui a permis à huit cinéastes queer émergents issu.es de communautés sous-représentées à travers le pays de développer des outils et des stratégies d’authenticité, la collaboration, le partage et la connexion via la narration. I+N FCQSFF offrira un espace dans lequel les mentors et les mentoré.es pourront se réunir pour les dernières étapes de la transformation de leurs visions en réalité dans l’espace virtuel image+nation.

En soutien à nos collègues, créateurices culturel.les et les personnes d’Ukraine, I+N FCQSFF saison 03 inclut une collaboration avec le Kyiv International Short Film Festival (KISFF): un programme confectionné par la cheffe de programmation du KISFF Sasha Prokopenko qui offre une rétrospective de courts métrages puissants en tout genre et de tous les styles - de la voute queer ukrainienne et internationale du KISFF.

I+N FCQSFF is back for its third season dedicated to discovering the intricately woven capsules of a moment, a thought, a moving image - the SHORT FILM. The creative minds that shape these moments, and the many stories they tell. The voice of many, the short form allows for the exploration of authentic storytelling, bringing together a myriad of contemporary queer expressions. Stories we can see ourselves in. Stories that speak to us. Stories that speak of us in our voice.

I+N FCQSFF is built upon creating a space for discovery and engagement through the short form.

Continuing our mission to amplify new queer voices, Season 03 features the culmination of I+N StoryLab/ histoires queer contemporaines, our scriptwriting mentorship initiative that has enabled eight emerging queer filmmakers from underrepresented communities across the country to develop useful tools and strategies to foster authenticity, outreach, collaboration and connection through Storytelling. I+N FCQSFF will offer a space for mentors and mentees to come together for the final steps in turning their visions into reality on the image+nation virtual space.

I+N FCQSFF also stands with Ukraine - with our colleagues, cultural creators and the people of Ukraine.

I+N FCQSFF Season 03 features a collaboration with the Kyiv International Short Film Festival (KISFF) curated by Head Programmer, Sasha Prokopenko. This special focus offers a retrospective selection of powerful shorts - of all genres and styles - from KISFF’s vault of Ukrainian and international queer films.

LOVINA YAVARI Lovina Yavari est une actrice canadienne, réalisatrice primée, artiste, créatrice de mode et mannequin internationalement publiée basée à Toronto, en Ontario. On peut la voir dans Shazam de DC, Polar (Netflix) et The Boys (Amazon.) Son premier court métrage Red String of Fate, qu’elle a co-réalisé avec Lance Fernandes, a attiré l’attention de plus de 20 festivals de films à l’échelle internationale et a remporté de nombreuses nominations et récompenses. Red String sera disponible sur DUST au printemps 2022. Lovina dirige également, stylise et construit des accessoires pour ses séances photo personnelles qui sont généralement sur le thème de la science-fiction. Dans ses temps libres, elle aime voyager, jouer aux jeux vidéos et regarder des dessins animés.

Lovina Yavari is a Canadian actor, award winning director, artist, fashion designer, and internationally published model in Toronto, ON. She can be seen in DC’s Shazam, Polar (Netflix), and The Boys (Amazon.) Her debut short film Red String of Fate which she co-directed with Lance Fernandes, has garnered attention from 20+ film festivals internationally and garnered multiple nominations and awards. Red String will be available on DUST in spring 2022.

Lovina also art directs, styles, and builds props for her personal photo shoots that are usually sci fi themed. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, gaming, and watching anime.

SASHA PROKOPENKO Саша Прокопенко — фестивальна програмерка, кінокураторка та перекладачка з Києва. Саша очолює програмний відділ Київського Міжнародного Фестивалю Короткометражних Фільмів. Також є кураторкою секції “Teen Screen” на КМКФ “Молодість”. З 2016 року працює в дистрибʼюторській компанії KyivMusicFilm, що займається кінотеатральним прокатом фільмів про мистецтво та культуру.

Sasha Prokopenko is a festival programmer, film curator and translator based in Kyiv.

Sasha is a Head of Programming at the Kyiv International Short Film Festival. She also curates the Teen Screen section at the Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival. Since 2016, she has worked at the independent film distribution company, KyivMusicFilm, which distributes films on art, music and culture.

TAMARA SCHERBAK Tamara Scherbak a écrit et réalisé une grande variété de projets au cours des dix dernières années, comme le court métrage Is Your Teen a Homosexual? (2018) qui a joué dans plus de 30 festivals de films à travers le monde, incluant image+nation, et a remporté le prix du meilleur humour au Out & Loud Pune Queer IFF. Tamara a également réalisé des films pour l’Office national du film du Canada et Vice Québec. Elle a été sélectionnée dans plusieurs laboratoires de talents prestigieux du TIFF, Berlinale, Netflix-Banff Diversity of Voices Initiative et, plus récemment, le Harold Greenberg Fund Shorts-to-Features Program.

Tamara Scherbak has written and directed a wide-variety of projects over the past ten years such as the short, Is Your Teen a Homosexual? (2018) which has played at over 30 film festivals around the world, including image+nation, and winning Best Humour at the Out & Loud Pune Queer IFF. Tamara has also directed work for the National Film Board of Canada, and Vice Québec.

KLAUS LINOW Klaus Linow er cand.mag. i Dansk og Religionsvidenskab og var mellem 2013-2016 programlægger for MIX COPENHAGEN LGBTQ Film Festival. I sine år hos MIX CPH deltog han årligt i Londons BFI Flare og Berlinalens Panoramasektion i eftersøgningen af kvalitetsfilm i spændet mellem mainstream og avantgarde. Han har kurateret flere kortfilmsprogrammer for MIX Copenhagen, herunder ”Grinding Lives” (2015) og ”The Alternative MIX” (2016). Siden 2017 har han undervist gymnasieelever i litteratur og medier på én af Danmarks største uddannelsesinstitutioner, Niels Brock, hvor han fra maj 2022 også sidder i bestyrelsen.

Klaus Linow holds a Master of Arts in Danish and Religious Studies. He was a programmer for MIX COPENHAGEN LGBTQ Film Festival from 2013-2016. During his tenure, Klaus focusing mainly on short films, curating programmes with such intriguing titles as “Grinding Lives” (2015) and “The Alternative MIX” (2016) and as well attended the BFI Flare and Berlinale, Berlin International Film Festival each year focussing on quality films in the spectrum between mainstream and the avantgarde. Since 2017, Klaus has taught high school students literature and media at one of Denmark’s largest educational institutions, Niels Brock, where from May 2022 he will also be a member of the board.

KIJÂTAI-ALEXANDRA VEILLETTE-CHEEZO Kijâtai vit à Montréal et est membre de la nation Anishnabe. La famille du côté de son père vient de la communauté du Lac-Simon. Iel étudie présentement le journalisme à l’UQAM et écrit des chroniques pour la plateforme web Espaces Autochtones de Radio-Canada. Ses courts métrages abordent les réalités autochtones de façon personnelle (Kijâtai, Kabak, Odehimin et Kimiwan).

Kijâtai s’engage également à travers les organismes tels que Puamun Meshkenu, Mikana et Wapikoni. Ce qui lui permet d’œuvrer sur la création de ponts entre autochtones et allochtones en plus de sensibiliser les gens aux différentes réalités autochtones.

Kijâtai lives in Montreal and is a member of the Anishnabe Nation. The family on their father’s side comes from the Lac-Simon community. Their mother, who is non-indigenous from Quebec, comes from Val-d’Or. They are currently studying journalism at UQAM and writing for the web platform Espaces Autochtones at Radio-Canada. Their short-films address indigenous realities in a personal way (Kijâtai, Kabak, Odehimin and Kimiwan). They are also involved throughout organizations such as Puamun Meshkenu, Mikana and Wapikoni. This allows them to work on the creation of bridges between natives and non-natives in addition to raising awareness of the various Indigenous realities.

ERIC PLAMONDON Eric Plamondon est un artiste pluridisciplinaire de Winnipeg. En tant qu’artiste francophone, métis et homosexuel, il prête sa voix à ces communautés minoritaires afin que leurs réalités, leurs préoccupations et leurs défis soient connus d’un plus grand public. Parmi ses projets récents on y retrouve Saint-BoniFAG, présenté dans la galerie du ccfm (2020-2021), INÉDIT présenté au Théâtre Cercle Molière, et Riverside Queerness qui a remporté un prix de meilleur court métrage au festival image+nation (Montréal) et Reel Pride (Winnipeg) en 2021.

Eric Plamondon is a multidisciplinary artist from Winnipeg. As a Francophone, Métis and gay artist, he lends his voice to these minority communities so that their realities, concerns and challenges are known to a wider audience. Among his recent projects are Saint-BoniFAG, presented in the ccfm gallery (2020-2021), INÉDIT presented at the Théâtre Cercle Molière, and Riverside Queerness which won a prize for best short film at the image+nation festival (Montreal) and Reel Pride (Winnipeg) in 2021.

D’abord acteur, Gharrett Patrick Paon est maintenant producteur et le président de Rebel Road Films. 2021 fut une année charnière pour Gharrett et sa compagnie. En plus d’un rôle de sept épisodes lors de la quatrième saison de The Sinner, il lance le long métrage bispirituel Wildhood de Bretten Hannam au TIFF, le propulsant au sommet de la renommée de la cuvée canadienne de 2021. En 2022, les séries numériques et documentaires ainsi que les longs métrages produits par Rebel Road Films récoltent huit nominations aux prix Écrans canadiens dont une pour le meilleur film. Joshua Odjick remporte d’ailleurs le prix d’Interprétation masculine dans un rôle de soutien pour sa performance dans Wildhood et Stephanie Clattenburg, le prix de la Meilleure réalisation d’une série documentaire pour la première saison de Spirit Talker produite par Gharrett.

PRÉSENTATION PORTRAIT OF A MAKER

Gharrett Patrick Paon is an actor-turned-producer and the president of Rebel Road Films. 2021 was a landmark year for Gharrett & the company. He filmed a 7-episode recurring arc on the fourth season of The Sinner and launched Bretten Hannam’s two-spirit feature Wildhood at TIFF. The film has since become one of the most celebrated Canadian films of the year. In 2022 Rebel Roads combined digital series, doc series and features were nominated for 8 Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Motion Picture and won Best Supporting Actor for Wildhood’s Joshua Odjick and Best Director in a Factual Series for Spirit Talker season 1 director Stephanie Clattenburg.

In my talk I’ll break down the current realities of feature film production and distribution in Canada, with a lens towards creative entrepreneurship. I’ll use my own trajectory, recent feature film Wildhood and other projects I’ve produced as case studies. I’m hoping you will leave this talk inspired (and slightly terrified!), so that you can reframe your expectations of what it means to be a Canadian producer, giving you the best shot of seeing financial returns from making great Canadian films.”

Poursuivant notre mission de promouvoir et de préparer les générations de conteurs queer d’aujourd’hui et de demain, nous lancions en 2021 I+N StoryLab/ histoires queer contemporaines, une initiative qui rassemble des créateurs pour faire des choses étonnantes.

I+N StoryLab/ histoires queer contemporaines réunit des créateurs/ créatrices de contenus queer émergent/es ainsi que des réalisatrices ou des producteurs queer qui agissent à titre de mentors dans le cadre d’un groupe de réflexion sur la narration et d’une initiative d’écriture de scénarios de courts métrages.

I+N StoryLab/ histoires queer contemporaines a rassemblé une cohorte de cinéastes queer émergents motivés, diversifiés et surtout créatifs et créatives, dans le but de donner vie à leurs histoires.

En mettant l’accent sur l’inclusivité, le I+N StoryLab/ histoires queer contemporaines inclut diverses voix régionales, amplifiant les voix des francophones hors Québec et des personnes queer sous-représentées des communautés autochtones, bispirituelles, PANDC et autres communautés racialisées, et s’efforce de développer des outils et des stratégies utiles pour favoriser l’authenticité, le rayonnement, la collaboration et la connexion par le biais de la narration.

La saison 03 du I+N Festival Court Queer Short Film Festival offrira un espace au sein duquel les mentors et mentoré.es se réuniront pour les dernières étapes pour transformer leurs visions en réalité.

Continuing our mission to promote and prepare contemporary and future generations of queer storytellers, we are proud to inaugurate I+N StoryLab/ histoires queer contemporaines, image+nation culture queer’s contribution to the exploration of contemporary visions of being queer in the 21st century.

I+N StoryLab/ histoires queer contemporaines brings emerging queer content creators together with queer filmmaking and producing mentors from across the country for a storytelling thinktank and short film scriptwriting initiative with the goal to enable these emerging queer filmmakers in bringing their stories to life.

With an emphasis on inclusivity, the I+N StoryLab/ histoires queer contemporaines includes diverse regional voices, amplifying voices from francoqueers from Québec and throughout Canada, as well as underrepresented queers from Indigenous, 2Spirit, indigiqueer, BPOC and other racialized communities and strives to develop useful tools and strategies to foster authenticity, outreach, collaboration and connection through Storytelling.

Season 03 of I+N Festival Court Queer Short Film Festival will offer a space for mentors and mentees to come together for the final steps in turning their visions into reality.

Être à l’intérieur de [Être], c’était se retrouver hermétiquement clos avec une prolifération d’objets, et des objets contenant des objets, une accumulation de choses et de surfaces et de parfums qui activent invariablement tous les sens. Tourné juste avant qu’il ne ferme définitivement ses portes, comme [Être] lui-même, ce film est une célébration de la folie des objets.

[Être] was a thrift shop and underground screening space in Montreal’s Mile-End. Being inside [Être] was being hermetically sealed-off with a proliferation of objects - objects containing objects - an accumulation of things, surfaces and scents activating all the senses. Shot just before it closed its doors forever, like [Être] itself, the film celebrates the madness of objects.
