Camp Shaw Retreat and St. Jude Fundraiser By: Dimitri Sotos and David Aschenbrenner, Members of Delta Upsilon
After being colonized in late October, the brothers of Delta Upsilon at Illinois State University hit the ground running. A team of brothers attended St. Jude’s Up Til’ Dawn event: The fraternity cooperatively raised over $3,200 for this tremendous cause and were awarded highest fundraising fraternity. Many others attended a brotherhood retreat at Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See in Kankakee, IL. Aside from taking time to bond with their brothers and getting to know each other better, the young men of Delta Upsilon set aside a day dedicated to community service. There were many things to do at the camp, and the young men put all their effort into their tasks, and there were many to do. Some brothers spent their time cleaning and reorganizing cabins, others collected and cut firewood, others arranged festive decorations in the dining hall, many cleared and burned invasive forestation in large bonfires, and others repainted walls of the camp’s facilities. Although the temperature was low, spirits were high as the men of Delta Upsilon worked together and got their work done! The rest of the weekend was full of laughs as they played football, basketball, spike ball, barbequed, and got to know their brothers. It was a great time for all who attended.
