Ciò che è più importante, la struttura del castello di Fulcignano, dato l’abbandono del casale in epoca premoderna, è rimasta quasi del tutto immutata fino ad oggi, senza superfetazioni architettoniche e modifiche sostanziali. Per questo, come più volte affermato dal prof. Paul Arthur dell’Università del Salento, il sito “congelato” di Fulcignano è un «“archetipo” di riferimento per ogni ricostruzione storica dell’evoluzione del modello».

bedeckt. Entlang des Innenumfangs befinden sich zahlreiche Gerüste, die wie die Struktur der Burg vorwiegend aus Holz realisiert wurden. Was jedoch wichtiger ist, ist, daß die Struktur der Burg von Falcignano ist auch nach der Verwahrlosung in der vormodernen Zeit heute noch fast vollständig unverändert und ohne jeglichen architektonischen Wiederholungen und Veränderungen. Wie von Prof. Paul Arthur von der Universität Salento mehrmals bestätigt, ist deshalb der Ort von Fulcignano ein «“Archetyp”, Bezugspunkt für jegliche geschichtliche Rekonstruktion der Entwicklung des Modells».
