Usually these dresses never arrive, or if they do, they are supercheap fakes made with awful materials and that barely resemble the dress you’ve set your heart on. The worst thing is that these scammers close and set up websites regularly to prevent being caught, so the chances of getting a refund or any justice are very slim. You then have to go to a trusted retailer to buy your dream dress and end up spending more than you would’ve if you’d gone to them direct in the first place, so please don’t fall for this scam! If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is…

HEALTHY LIVING JASON AND KATY ENJOYED GUILT-FREE RECIPES FROM SLIMMING WORLD
ason, 48, and his wife, Katy, 37, live in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. He’s a facilities manager and she’s a library information assistant. Together, the pair embarked on an incredible weightloss journey, losing 11 stone between them, to ensure they looked and felt like their healthiest on the most important day of their lives. Jason shares his story with us... “Watching my daughter, Charlotte, getting engaged in front of a packed crowd at a music festival in Torbay, I felt an idea forming. My fiancée, Katy, and I had each lost more than 5st with Slimming World, and we

were feeling so much more confident that we wanted to do something to celebrate our success. So on the drive home through the Devon countryside, I decided to pop the question. ‘Why don’t we set a date for our wedding?’ Katy sat bolt upright, too stunned to say anything. Then she broke into a big grin. ‘Let’s do it!’ she said. I could understand her surprise. When we’d first got engaged five years ago, I’d felt very differently. Back then, weighing over 24st and battling pain caused by ruptured ligaments in my left knee, I couldn’t muster any excitement for the wedding. I knew that Katy was

unhappy about her size as well, so I didn’t bring up the subject and neither did she. Being engaged was enough of a commitment to each other. Then, in 2016, I was told I’d need to lose weight before I could have knee replacement surgery. I managed to lose the 2st needed for the op, but as soon as I’d had the surgery I felt my motivation vanish. I went back to my GP to ask for help and he suggested I try a weight loss group. When I got home I said to Katy: ‘I’m not going to a group – I’ll be the only bloke!’ She knew exactly what to say to reassure me. ‘Let’s do it together – we could try Slimming World,’ she replied. Turned
out I needn’t have worried. Not only were there a few other men in group – one was my brother! I’d thought his

Crustless squash mini quiches

Ready in 35 minutes, plus cooling INGREDIENTS 125g butternut squash, peeled, deseeded and diced 50g baby leaf spinach 1 roasted red pepper in brine from a jar, cut into small chunks 4 spring onions, sliced 5 medium eggs ½ tsp smoked paprika Low-calorie cooking spray Pickled baby beetroot from a jar, drained, to serve Lettuce leaves, to serve
METHOD Preheat your oven to 180°C/ fan 160°C/gas 4. Put the squash, 2 tbsp water and some seasoning in a medium non-stick saucepan. Cover and cook over a low heat for about 5 minutes or until tender. Uncover, add the spinach and leave to wilt. Cool slightly then stir in the red pepper and
spring onions. Crack the eggs into a bowl, add the paprika, ½ tsp salt and some pepper and beat well with a fork. Spray 6 compartments of a non-stick muffin tin with low-calorie cooking spray. Divide the squash mixture between the compartments, pour in the eggs and bake for 20 minutes or until set. Remove the muffin

tin from the oven and leave the quiches to cool for 10 minutes. Carefully remove the quiches from the tin, running a round-bladed knife around the edge of any that need a bit of encouragement. Leave to go cold. Pack the quiches into 2 lunchboxes or bento boxes along with the beetroot and lettuce leaves. Cover, chill and serve the next day.
Hot-smoked salmon Caesar salad SERVES

METHOD Preheat the grill to high. Cook the eggs in a saucepan of INGREDIENTS boiling water until cooked to your liking 2 large eggs (from 4 minutes for very soft to 10 minutes 4 back bacon rashers, for very hard). Drain, cover with cold water all visible fat removed 2 Little Gem lettuces, leaves separated and set aside. Meanwhile, grill the bacon for 2-3 200g hot-smoked salmon, minutes on each side or until just cooked skin and bones discarded, flaked through. Remove and leave to cool, then 2 tomatoes, cut into wedges cut into chunks. 1 tbsp capers, drained and rinsed Put all the dressing ingredients in a small food processor and whizz until For the dressing smooth. Spoon into 2 small sealable pots, 5 tbsp fat-free natural Greek yogurt cover and chill until needed. 25g watercress sprigs, Shell the eggs and cut them into large stalks discarded quarters. Spread out the lettuce leaves in 2 tbsp chopped fresh dill 2 lunchboxes and scatter over the salmon, Grated zest and juice tomatoes, bacon, eggs and capers. Cover, of ¼ unwaxed lemon chill and eat the next day, drizzling over the dressing just before serving. Ready in 20 minutes
Veggie pakoras Ready in 30 minutes INGREDIENTS 60g canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed 1 medium egg, beaten ½ tbsp medium curry powder (or more if you like it hot) 1 small garlic clove, crushed ½ small onion, thinly sliced 30g finely shredded carrot 30g cauliflower florets, thinly sliced and roughly chopped 30g finely shredded courgette Low-calorie cooking spray 100g fat-free natural Greek yogurt 1 tbsp roughly chopped fresh mint salad, to serve

tip into a mixing bowl and stir in all the vegetables. Spray a large non-stick frying pan with low-calorie cooking spray and place over a medium-high heat. Using 2 forks, scoop up about one-fifth of the pakora mixture, drop it into the pan and repeat twice more. Flatten slightly with a fork and cook for 2½ minutes on each side or until cooked through and golden. Transfer to a plate and repeat to make 2 more pakoras. Leave to cool.

We just kept it quite relaxed, which made the vibe of the day work really well.” What was the highlight of your day? “All of it? It really was the most perfect day from start to finish.”

This couple chose a wonderfully personalised day filled with pretty details. Ella shares her story... How did Luke propose? “Luke proposed on a weekend away in Amsterdam. On our first night we went for a walk around the city, got dinner
and he proposed at our hotel by the canal. He later admitted he was planning to wait, but was so nervous he would lose the ring that he asked straight away!”
What dress did you wear? “My dress was actually a strapless Amanda Wyatt design that I bought from the Sass & Grace Boutique in Winchester. I loved the dress but had my heart set on a long-sleeve gown, so worked with the wonderful (and patient) Dala, to design my own bodice and lace-illusionsleeve piece. It’s lovely to

On our final night in Las Vegas we had been horse riding through Red Rock Canyon at sunset. After the horse ride we sat on a ranch around a fire pit roasting marshmallows. to walk down the aisle with her walker and sprinkle petals. It was beautiful. And then Katie walked down and my heart felt like it would explode out my chest.” Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from? “We had my three nieces Livvy, Tia and Lylah as

I also really enjoyed the speeches. Sam nailed his and I loved watching my baby niece clapping along with everyone.”

Does your venue give you the facility to drop off these details the day before your wedding for them to then set these out for you? It’s also worth checking what the venue will do for you and what they expect you to do. If you’ve simply hired a venue, who is responsible for tidying it at the end of the wedding? If they don’t have a dedicated event manager on the day, who will ensure the timings of the day are adhered to? Who will make

Aruba... Andy Allen finds out why so many people describe this place as the happiest island in the world...
A
ruba is part of the Kingdom of The Netherlands and is placed in the Southern Caribbean, just off the coast of Venezuala. It’s ideally placed outside of the hurricane belt, so they never experience tropical storms and get to enjoy sunshine almost every day – more so than any other Caribbean island. These unique conditions make it different to other islands you might have visited and are part of the geological make up that makes it so special. The main languages spoken here are Dutch and a creole language called Papiamento. English is also widely spoken though. A recent five-year Happiness Index study has
Aruba come out on top with 78% of the population stating that they are happy. It’s really easy to see why. Here I want to give you a taste of the island and give you some inspiration showcasing some of the delights on offer, whether it’s as a destination wedding or as part of your honeymoon. EXPLORING THE ISLAND AND ITS TERRAIN The island is just under 20 miles long and 6 miles across, so getting around is easy. The constantly dry climate on Aruba means the landscape is peppered with Cactuses. There are large volcanic rocks strewn around from the island’s birth and some of the prettiest coves and beaches in the world. Its weather is

consistent with a late twenties centigrade temperature all year round. I took an island jeep tour with De Palm Tours, exploring much of the terrain enjoying the rugged coastline and stopping at many interesting places. One of the places we called at was Bushiribana Gold Mine. It was fascinating

to hear the story of how gold was discovered here 150 years ago by a young, local boy who found a nugget whilst walking on the beach. This sparked a gold rush in Aruba. Production has since ceased but the abandoned ruined Mill makes a stunning backdrop. We also visited the natural bridge – a unique

BEACHES AND BEYOND Aruba is the setting for some seriously wonderful beaches. The sand is pure white, and made from really fine, ground coral. Because the sand is made of rock it means the sand remains cool to walk across even at the hottest part of the day. This is something I hadn’t experienced before. There is a constant breeze blowing through the air, this tends to refresh and cool you, but don’t get fooled, the sun is intense, remember to apply plenty of sunblock. There are so many beautiful coves and beaches, there is something for all tastes here. There are pretty coves such as Baby Beach. This gives you a true sense of Caribbean paradise, the half

moon shaped bay has a calm, crystal clear lagoon that laps the shoreline. Further along the coast is Eagle Beach. This stunning stretch of white sand has been voted 3rd best beach in the world on Trip Advisor. It’s easy to see why, it also makes the perfect spot to watch the sun go down. If you fancy a break from the heat, a spectacular natural attraction is the Caves Fontain. These underground caverns make for an incredible tour. In places they are illuminated by daylight streaming in from above. It was amazing to see so many bats flying around so close! SAIL AND SNORKLE TOUR The Monforte is a gorgeous 115ft wooden schooner. We sailed along the coast to the Spanish Lagoon where
we anchored and had fun snorkelling and exploring the coral reef. It was brilliant to be guided by the staff and be shown all the amazing sea life living in the area. The journey back had a superb party atmosphere with plenty of drinking and dancing on board. WHERE TO STAY I stayed at the lovely Manchebo Beach Resort and Spa. The hotel is on the famous Eagle Beach and is perfectly set to enjoy the beach views. It has 4 restaurants and serves delicious cuisine. I particularly enjoyed an early morning yoga session in the most spectacular setting. If you enjoy a spa treatment, its beach fronted private huts make for the perfect Caribbean pamper session.
