Food Pantry

by Ron Damholt

We’re a small group of parishioners and friends who gather monthly either to discuss a noteworthy novel, or to screen and discuss a high-quality movie - enjoying conversation and refreshment along the way! Our goals include helping us reflect on our faith and deepen our faithfulness to Christ, in the light given us through authors, directors and actors.

To give a taste of our explorations, our (Zoomed) agenda for the last months of 2020 follows:

September: film, Network, directed by Sidney Lumet (1976)

October: book, The Second Coming, by Walker Percy (1980)

November: film, Do the Right Thing, directed by Spike Lee (1989)

December: book, The Color Purple, by Alice Walker (1982)

Open Door

by Bradley Ferst

The mission of Open Door is to seek and serve Christ in all persons, embracing the LGBTIA+ community, their families and friends through opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, and service. We answer questions people may have, and we assure people that all people are welcome at Transfiguration’s table. We are who we say we are!

During the Pandemic members of Open Door have led Evening Prayers from the Nave on the third Sunday of each month. This virtual gathering has allowed for wonderful fellowship afterwards. We hope to continue this as an in person and virtual service when we again worship together in the Nave.

In January we enjoyed a Sunday fried chicken luncheon in the Parlor and in February we met at Gloria’s Latin Cuisine for food and fellowship.

We had wonderful plans for 2020 and we look forward to them happening in the future: Hosting the church’s Maundy Thursday Soup Supper, a fundraiser for Youth First Dallas which cares for LGBT+ youth experiencing homelessness; participating and walking in Dallas Pride for the second time; and continuing our popular monthly social gatherings in restaurants and in private homes.
