HISTORICAL COMMITTEE REPORT
from 2019 IBSA Annual
by IBSA
The Historical Committee met on March 19, 2019, at the IBSA Building, and reviewed its assigned tasks and responsibilities.
The committee with the help of IBSA staff members and other past leaders put together one hundred and eight possible items for a historical timeline to be made into large pictures. These pictures are to be displayed in the IBSA Building in Springfield. Because each item would be presented as a large picture, items could be added or deleted as new major events occur. The pictures could also be made into video and be displayed in a local church. This would give more of our members knowledge of Baptist work in Illinois.

Delbert Penrod wrote an article for the Illinois Baptist encouraging the churches to digitize their historical records by scanning or photographing them. Digitized copies could then be sent to our Baptist Building and stored in the vault for inclusion in our collection of IBSA history in the archives.
Susan Full reported on the work of the Archive Ad Hoc Work Group updating the Committee on what has been completed and what they are preparing to do next to continue preserving our history. As is the Committee’s tradition, they toured the IBSA Historical Archives that are located at the IBSA Building.
Also, this year we received materials to add to the IBSA Historical Library from the Redeemer Baptist Church of Panama, IL, Jerad File, pastor. They sent a picture of a large community church field map picturing areas coded for a survey and visitation for prospects. The IBSA rural church program which produced it was called Design for Rural Church Achievement. It was led by IBSA leader Walter Mihlfeld and pastor Roger Elsworth. This program produced church growth.
