On the authority of Aisha may Allah be pleased with her , who said: “The Prophet Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him used to stand so long during his optional prayers at night, that the skin of his feet would erupt; therefore I said to him; ‘Messenger of Allah, (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) why do you stand so long in prayer when Allah has forgiven your past and future sins (if any)?’ He said: “Then may I not become the most grateful servent of Allah?” (Bukhari & Muslim)

VCE PARENT TIPS FROM YOUR SCHOOL COUNSELLOR Our Year 12 VCE students are coming to the end of their High school journey. The end of year exams are just around the corner. Stress and anxiety is increasing, students are trying to make the most of their time in preparation. However, this task is not theirs alone. As parents we need to re-motivate, refresh, support, guide and provide positive feedback to our students. Let’s help them reach their personal goals and succeed. Encourage your adolescent by trying to follow some of the tips below. ALL THE BEST AND MAY ALLAH (SWT) HELP OUR STUDENTS ACHEIVE THEIR PERSONAL GOALS.

VCE PARENT TIPS!!!

• Guide, support and encourage your child. • Don't nag. • Don't tell them they will fail if they don't work harder. • Encourage healthy eating, regular exercise and plenty of sleep. • Take their efforts seriously. • Create an effective work space in the house. • Take a whole-family approach to supporting the student. • Don't overload them with domestic chores. • Let them know that you're there when they need you. • Encourage them to believe in themselves. • Remind them of their goals. • Give them positive feedback whenever possible. • Remember the VCE is about them, not you. • Encourage them to take study breaks when necessary. • Help them put the year in perspective. • Keep an eye on their emotional health; look for changes in sleeping or eating and see your local doctor if concerned. Ms. Gulcin Buyukyazici

Year 9 Girls Iftar On the 2nd of September, the year 9 girls organised an iftar. The iftar was held at school from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. It was a well organised iftar. The girls contributed greatly. All girls were on their best behaviour. They served us the food and desserts with great pleasure. It was a wonderful and enjoyable night for both the teachers and students. We were impressed by the girls’ behaviour and their organisation of the iftar preparations. We broke our fast with the adhan and a date on a well presented table. There were a variety of foods. After iftar we prayed our Maghrib prayer and enjoyed ourselves with a cone of flavoured ice-cream and a game of poison ball and hide and seek. Overall it was a great night that we would like to repeat again in the future. I would like to thank Mr Kirca, Mr Kayikci, Ms Eren Kayikci and all the year 9 girls for this wonderful evening. Grade 3’s Incubator in their classroom

This term the whole school has been working on the topic of Success. What is Success? The definition of success is doing your personal best at something you have set out to accomplish. As parents you may want to talk to your children about success by: • Sharing your life experiences • Talking about success role models such as good friends, aunts and aunties or teachers • Share stories of the prophets as examples of a successful Muslim • Think about setting some short-term and long-term goals and some strategies of how you might achieve them Students of Grade 3 enjoying theirThe truth is we have all been successful and accomplished hands on experience with the new something in our lives and it’s important we share these classmates experiences with our children to show them that if we As part of the grade 3’s Integrated Studies topic of ‘Change’, Grade 3A set realistic goals we can achieve them. was fortunate enough to have an incubator in our classroom. We were given 11 eggs ready to hatch. Students were impatiently waiting for the arrival of our temporary new members of our classroom. This rare opportunity gave the grade 3’s the chance to observe the changes a little fluffy chick makes from egg to being. It was amazing to watch these little creatures breakthrough their shell, take their first breath, stumble the first few steps and then waddle around in their little, cute and fuzzy bodies. They have captured our hearts and we will all miss them when it is time to say good-bye. Ms. Hatice Koc

The Cosmodome Portable Planetarium Incursion on the 13th of August 2009 Has a spaceship landed in our gym? No, it is only the cosmodome that was set up so that the students could learn about space while watching a movie reflected on to the ceiling of the dome. Fourteen classes from Grade 1 to 4 were excited when they had to creep through a narrow opening before entering a space the size of a small class room. The presenter gave a brief overview on the night sky before showing a movie about the planets and their environments. In the end, it was found that only Earth has the ideal conditions to sustain human life. Allahu Akbar! This incursion was an introduction to the National Science week (17th-21st Aug). The students were able to role play a bill and debate it in Parliament.

Junior Schools Programme Debating Many eager Year 7 & 8 students have registered to be part of the Ilim College Junior Debating Team. 20 students, with their parents travelled to Overnewton Anglican Grammar School to take part in the first training session. Junior Schools Programme Debating Dear Parents, As the end of term three draws close, it is timely that we announce that as of this week the school library will be closed for lending. Overdue slips will be coming home this week. Please return all your library books/items by September 14, 2009. If you’re child has lost or damaged their book(s), you are expected to pay the cost of the book; otherwise, you will not be able to collect your child’s report until this matter has been resolved. We would also ask you to finalise any issues within a few days. Also, I would like to remind you that it is compulsory for primary students to bring a school crested library bag for their library sessions. Student’s name and surname needs to be clearly marked on the library bag. If you haven’t purchased one by now, you can purchase the school library bag from our school uniform shop located on E block. These library bags help to protect books and help to identify students.
