From the Principal Dear Parents This term provides many opportuni es to be involved in our school. It is great to see parents volunteering and families and extended family members joining us for special events. During Term Four there are always a few addi onal Inter school Athle c Carnival events where we look forward to gathering as a community. School celebra ons and events where family and extended family members join us greatly assist in developing community spirit.

One of these celebra ons is the rst Family Mass for 2022 on Saturday 12 November at 6.00pm at Infant Jesus Church. This is a me to gather as a community and to give thanks for the many blessings in our lives. The choir will be singing at this celebra on and all families and extended family members are encouraged to join us for this celebra on.

Sacramental Program - Reconcilia on

School Advisory Council

On Monday 14 November and Thursday 17 November, the children in Year Three will receive the Sacrament of Penance (Reconcilia on). This is a very signi cant me in their lives and in their faith journey. It is also a very important me for their families, their teachers, the school and the parish community.

The Sacrament of Penance, is a truly special and wonderful gi that the children, and everyone who has received this sacrament, now have the opportunity to par cipate in as o en as they like.

2023 Enrolments

We keep all our Year Three students in our prayers as they receive the Sacrament of Penance (Reconcilia on) for the rst me. We pray that they will choose to use ‘this gi ’ o en.

We also recognise and thank Fr Greg and the Parish Team who coordinated the Sacraments of Reconcilia on, First Eucharist and Con rma on this year.

Fr Greg, Mrs Theresa Choo, Sacramental Coordinator and Mrs Sue Goodwin, and the Parish Team have been fantas c to work with throughout the year. We are truly very fortunate that all the children and families are all so well supported in their faith journey.

Inter School Athle c Carnival 2022 Congratula ons to our Interschool Athle c Team who competed against other Catholic Schools today at Ern Clark in Canning.

Many thanks to Mrs Jenkins for preparing and training the team and to Miss Witkowski, Mr Colangelo and Mrs Greener who assisted on the day. It was fantas c to see a larger number of students par cipa ng in both track and eld events.

Through the Physical Educa on Program with Mrs Jenkins all students par cipate in a variety of track and eld sports. Many students have then enthusias cally joined in training sessions before school and have con nued to improve their personal best. This was also demonstrated at the Interschool Athle c Carnival where many of our students improved on their personal best from our Athle c Carnival.

i-Excel Last Monday, Infant Jesus School students par cipated in an extra curricula i-Excel opportunity promo ng Mathema cs- the AFG Interschool Numero Challenge. The students competed against 16 other teams and took part in ac vi es that involved strategic thinking, problem solving, visualising consequences and lateral reasoning.

Next Tuesday 8 November 2022 the second Technology Interschool Challenge will take place at Infant Jesus School. This day will see students, in a senior and a junior team, use their knowledge of coding and robo cs to complete technology challenges based around the theme of the book, We Are Australian.

As Infant Jesus School is the host school, we will welcome sta and students from 4 Catholic schools who will be using our facili es including the Hall, the Library, the i-Lab and the Kindergarten room throughout the day.

Jesus showed us how to do this as he dealt with people who were part of his life. To elect to follow Christ means that we endeavour to replace “our hearts” with the “heart of Christ”. This enables us to forgive as Jesus did and does.

Best Wishes Congratula ons and best wishes to Miss Melissa Myles who will be commencing an Assistant Principal role at St Helena’s Catholic Primary School in Ellenbrook from January 2023.

Melissa commenced her teaching career at Infant Jesus School and has taught Year Five, Year Three, Year Two, and Year Six and has been integral to the innova on and technology journey and focus during her me at our school. We have all greatly bene ted from Melissa’s generosity, her energy, her crea vity and her gi s and talents which have enhanced the pedagogy through integra ng engaging and exci ng learning experiences across the curriculum areas for all the children.

Since the commencement of 2021 Melissa has been Ac ng Assistant Principal where she has contributed signi cantly to the Leadership Team and Infant Jesus School with her commitment, enthusiasm, crea vity, collabora on and professionalism in all aspects of school planning and ini a ves.

We wish Melissa all the very best in her new leadership role.

ACM As parents are aware, the Annual Community Mee ng will take place on Tuesday 22 November 2022 at 6.00pm in the School Hall.

Addi onal informa on was sent home earlier this week regarding the ACM as well as details about the nomina on and elec on process for posi ons on the School Advisory Council and the P&F Group Commi ee. We encourage parents to consider being involved and assis ng the school community by serving on one of these commi ees. Refreshments will be served a er the mee ng.

School Advisory Council Members of the Infant Jesus School Advisory Council provide a service in the Chris an tradi on, serving the school community according to their par cular skills. It is a shared ministry and as such draws upon the share wisdom in its members working together as Chris ans, both to support the ethos of the Catholic school and to provide for the material needs of the school. it is important that the School Advisory Council draw their membership from a broad cross sec on of the community.

Led by Sam, all the mee ngs have been very well organised, cohesive and construc ve and highlighted the School Advisory Council’s role in suppor ng the school. During the last four years Sam has been very generous with his me, exper se and professionalism in the role of Chair of the Infant Jesus School Advisory Council. This year, due to the pandemic, we have also u lised technology and facilitated some mee ngs online.

All members have also been extremely generous in serving Infant Jesus School with their me. During the year they have listened, shared their ideas, promoted our school and Catholic educa on and provided very though ul and considerate perspec ves.

P&F The Parents’ and Friends’ Associa on is an integral part of the Catholic School structure and is a valuable instrument in the Church’s ministry of educa on. This year we have once again been fortunate to have a very dedicated and collabora ve P&F Associa on.

We especially thank the Execu ve Commi ee of: Mrs Vanessa Ga (President) Mrs Karen Holden (Treasurer) Mrs Giulia De Rizzo (Secretary) Mrs Jenny Allpike (School Advisory Council Representa ve) In 2022 Vanessa, Karen and Giulia have worked collabora vely with the Leadership Team and have done a fantas c job in working around the restric ons of the pandemic whilst con nuing to generate the Infant Jesus School spirit, trying some new ideas and suppor ng all the 2022 school ini a ves and priori es.

All their undertakings this year have been successful, and the mee ngs led by Vanessa and her team have been purposeful and produc ve. The Parent Class Representa ves have been most suppor ve of the P&F Execu ve and have assisted in the distribu on of informa on, helped out at the various events and were involved in genera ng ‘community’ and the IJ spirit within the cohort. The Mother and Daughter Camp and the Father and Son Camp were hugely successful and con nue to grow from strength to strength.

Remembrance Day On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 an armis ce was signed that stopped the gh ng in World War I. Since then, and a er World War II, this day of remembrance became known as ‘Remembrance Day’ so we can remember the people who have died in all wars.

On Friday, 11 November at 11.00am, the school community will par cipate in a Remembrance Day re ec on which will be held in the School Piazza. Parents and community members are most welcome to a end.

Parent Volunteers Mass and Morning Tea On Thursday 24 November, a Volunteers’ Mass followed by a morning tea will be held in the School Hall to say ‘Thank You’ to all the parents who have assisted with school ac vi es throughout year.

We recognise that parents are a very important link between home and school and we greatly value and appreciate the support they have provided the sta and students of Infant Jesus School. It is tremendous to have this level of interest displayed in the development of both the children and the school as a whole.

2023 Enrolments As the school undertakes the process of prepara on for the upcoming school year, it is important that we are aware of possible movements, both in and out of the school community. The end of any school year is a busy me for many families insofar as transfers due to work or other personal circumstances.

Currently, our enrolment numbers are full with ‘No Vacancies’ across the school. However, we have a number of families on our wai ng list, so if you do know that you won’t be returning in 2023, please write to the school so as to allow other families the opportunity to gain a posi on at Infant Jesus School. This allows the school to plan for next year’s classes and new enrolments.

School Fees As we are in Term Four and drawing closer to the end of the year we ask that all families please ensure fees are nalised as per your payment plan.

Pre-Kindergarten applica ons Enrolments are now being taken for siblings and new students wishing to commence Pre-Kindergarten at Infant Jesus School in 2023. Families with children eligible for Pre-Kindergarten in 2023 are required to ll out a Pre-Kindergarten Enrolment Applica on Form.

Infant Jesus School will con nue to operate half day Pre-Kindergarten groups next year with the days of a endance being Tuesday and Thursday.

Pre-Kindergarten places are limited so it is important that parents within the Infant Jesus School community submit their applica ons as soon as possible. Forms can be obtained from the o ce.

Easy ways to develop independence in kids Paren ng Ideas – Michael Grose A major challenge for parents is to nd ways of safely moving children from being reliant on adults to a posi on of independence. This can be tough because your natural ins nct is to nurture them.

Training for independence starts from a young age and con nues into adolescence and beyond.

Developing independence is one of the best ways to promote self-con dence.

When you teach children to do jobs for themselves, you send a powerful message that you believe that they are capable. Your ac ons speak louder than words.

Developing independence in kids can be tricky these days. Recently I heard a brilliant, yet decep vely simple idea that all parents can use to develop independence in their kids of any age.

I a ended an advanced presenta on skills seminar, conducted by Australian professional speaker Glenn Capelli. Glenn said that many speakers complicated ma ers for audiences, making things too complex. One way of making it easy for audiences to learn is to create a JUNIOR VERSION of whatever we are talking about.

He likened this to the way that many spor ng bodies have now developed modi ed versions of adult sports, so kids can learn the basic skills of the sport in fun, enjoyable ways.

I had one of those light bulb moments as I listened, and realised that e ec ve parents create JUNIOR VERSIONS of the GAME all the me to help kids develop the skills of selfsu ciency and independence from a very early age.

Here are some examples: We get toddlers to smooth the doonas and arrange their teddies on their beds – that’s a JUNIOR VERSION of making a bed.

• We encourage early primary school kids to make snacks, prepare breakfasts and help prepare a meal. That’s a JUNIOR VERSION of cooking an evening meal.

•We drive primary school kids half way to school and let them walk the rest.

That’s a JUNIOR VERSION of walking to school.

•We let an early teen go to a local cinema with friends. That’s a JUNIOR VERSION of going out without adult supervision.

There are plenty of ways to create JUNIOR VERSIONS of independent living every day so kids can become more self-su cient.

What JUNIOR VERSIONS of independent living are you crea ng for your kids?

If you are anxious about your child’s safety and tend to be more protec ve than you want, then start crea ng JUNIOR VERSIONS of independent living, so that kids can learn to stand on their own two feet rather than be dependent on you. Remember, REDUNDANCY is your aim as a parent!

Similarly, one way for kids to develop self-help skills is to create JUNIOR VERSIONS of what you already do, so they can develop the skill-sets needed to look a er themselves, and help out the rest of the family.

Now that’s an idea worth thinking about!

The Five Names of the Sacrament The Sacrament has the following names: 1. Sacrament of Conversion – Making Jesus’ call to conversion sacramentally present 2. Sacrament of Confession – Because disclosing sins to a priest is an essen al element; it is also a confession of God’s holiness and mercy 4. Movement This term in Pre-Primary Science, we have been learning about how di erent things move.

One of the things we have been inves ga ng that moves, is our bodies! To start this inves ga on, we went out into the playground and had a play on the equipment. We discovered that our bodies are amazing and can do movements such as climb, slide, swing and hang!

Music

Music What an exci ng me in Music and the performing arts this term! Students are busy ge ng ready for their performances with a mixture of dancing and playing instruments to showcase their work in December.

Each year group will be performing their singing of various songs with ac ons and dancing. Look out for the Nutcracker and the Sugar Plum Fairy!
