From the Principal

Heavenly Father,

We come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your mercy and forgiveness. Through the Sacrament of Penance, grant us the grace to acknowledge our sins, to sincerely repent, and to receive Your healing love.

May we always strive to live in Your light and share Your peace with others. Amen. .

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to our Week Five NewsleOer.

Congratula5ons to our Year Three students who this week received the Sacrament of ReconciliaIon It was lovely to see the families par5cipate in the workshop together before the students received their Sacrament. I would like to thank Father Greg, Father John and Father Ad, the Parish Catechist team and the volunteers who helped facilitate the workshops.

Our ACM is on Tuesday 19 November at 6pm in the hall. We s5ll have posi5ons vacant for both the P&F and the SAC. If you are unsure about nomina5ng, please do not hesitate to chat with any of the current office bearers or myself. Nomina5on forms were sent out earlier this week and are due back on the 15 November.

Over the last half of the term, there are a lot of school and class events planned. On the 14 November, our Pre Primary students are leading our last assembly of the year. We look forward to seeing everyone there. Students are celebra5ng Tilly’s 1st Birthday on the 20 November with Tilly joining them for a whole school celebra5on assembly in the morning, followed by class visits throughout the day.

I would like to sincerely thank all families who have volunteered in some capacity across the year. From helping in the classroom to helping with P&F events, all volunteers are very much appreciated. We would like to invite all of our volunteers to a special Thank You Mass on the 21 November.

Thank you to the small group of parents who gave up their 5me and joined me on Monday to help develop our Strategic Intents. It was interes5ng to chat with the group about our school and ideas moving forward.

Please note that new signs have been erected by the council on the grass verge area on Smith Street. No parking is allowed on the grass as cars parking here block the visibility of cars exi5ng the drive through pick up/drop off areas. We thank you in advance for your coopera5on.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

End of Year Reports - Sem 2 2024

Understanding Your Child’s Report

You will receive two academic reports this year. A ‘Mid Year Report’ at the end of Semester One and ‘End of Year Report’ at the end of Semester Two. This has been changed from the reports that used to be called Semester One Report and Semester Two Report, in line with School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements.

Mid-Year Report

This report provides parents with a ‘snapshot in 5me’ of how their child is progressing in rela5on to the end-ofyear achievement standard for each learning area for their year level. The grade provided is taking into account the curriculum which has been taught and assessed to that point in 5me.

End of Year Report

This report provides parents with an overview of how their child has progressed, across the en5re year, in rela5on to the end-of-year Achievement Standard for each learning area for their year level. The grade provided is taking into account the curriculum which has been taught and assessed across the en5re year, not just Semester Two.

In line with School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements, the reports will no longer list the report descriptors that your child has been working towards in class. However, we encourage you to look at the Term Overviews, and weekly coumminca5ons. sent out at the start of each term/week, and Seesaw for what your child has been learning about.

Understanding the Five-Step Grading System (A-E)

• ‘C Grade’ indicates that your child has progressed to the desired level of understanding for their year level.

• ‘C Grade’ is the expected Achievement Standard for each year level and each Learning Area.

• ‘A Grade’ or ‘B Grade’ means that your child is responding to the content taught to a deeper level. They may be thinking more cri5cally about the content, which is a wonderful skill to demonstrate.

• Final grades are determined by teachers collec5ng numerous samples of work and assessments. The grade is determined with the use of SCSA Judging Standards.

• ‘D’ and ‘E’ Grades reflect limited to very low achievement of what is expected for their year level. Your child’s teachers will arrange a 5me to discuss their progress if they are receiving either of these grades.

We hope this informa5on assists you to understand the repor5ng process at Infant Jesus School. If you have any further ques5ons, please don’t hesitate to ask your child’s teacher.

Six Noongar Seasons

Year 2

This week in Year Two the students have been crea5ng artwork posters about the Six Noongar Seasons.

The students have been researching one of the Six Seasons including Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba, Kambarang and Barak. They have looked at the months the seasons fall into, what the weather is like and the type of food that is eaten.

To create their poster, students used crepe paper and water to stain their paper with warm or cool colours. They then drew symbols such as animals and plants to represent their chosen season.

The students enjoyed learning all about the six Noongar seasons.

Year Five on and Graphing Fun

cs unit, the Year Five on and graphing by designing their own survey ques5ons. Topics included “What's your favourite animal?” What onality?” and “What is the best sport?”

Each student gathered responses, tallied data in a table, and chose a graph- like bar graphs, dot plots and line graphs- to represent their findings.

The results were impressive, showcasing our classes diverse interests. This ac5vity not only strengthened their skills in data handling and presenta5on but also helped them see the value in gathering real-world informa5on!
