From the Principal

Lord Jesus Christ, Bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first <me. May this day be the step toward a life-long love of the Eucharist. Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship. May their hands, extended in an<cipa<on of your body and blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred Sacrament. Amen.

Welcome to our Week 8 newsle_er.

CongratulaGons in advance to our Year 4 students who will be making their First Communion this Saturday. This Sacrament is the beginning of a special journey of lifelong connecGon and friendship with Jesus and we look forward to being a part of this celebraGon with them.

On Monday we look forward to sharing some of the wonderful learning occurring in our classrooms as we hold our Learning Journey evening for all students from Kindy to Year Six. Staff and students have been working very hard all term and can’t wait to share this with you.

Our BYOD informaRon session for our Year 2 parents is on Wednesday 13 September at 6pm and is an important part of preparing for Year 3 next year.

Miss Witkowski is busy finalising the events for our AthleRcs Carnival at the Noranda SporGng Complex on Wednesday 20 September. Any help for both the trial day on the 14 September and the AthleGcs Carnival is greatly appreciated.

I look forward to welcoming parents to our Term 3 iPerform performance on Friday 15 September. Mrs Carroll and the students have had a lot of fun working on their performances.

A big thank you in advance to our P&F for all of their hard work in organising the Rock and Pop Musical Bingo for the 15 September. It will be a wonderful evening of music and fun and a chance to connect as a community.

A quick reminder that there is strictly no parking in either of the disabled parking bays as these are needed by some members of our community. We acknowledge that it can be frustraGng if there are no other parking bays available as you are driving through and we appreciate your support in keeping the disabled bays free.

The last day of Term 3 is Thursday 21 September

Enjoy the last two weeks of the term.

iShow iExplain iLearnt (Learning Journeys)

On Monday 11 September 2023 we welcome parents to iShow, iExplain, iLearnt. This iniGaGve was introduced in 2022 to provide an important opportunity to strengthen communicaGon through sharing the learning, achievements and progress of the children with parents through Gme spent in the classroom.

iShow, iExplain, iLearnt supports our goal to conGnue to develop a community that fosters life-long learning and an aftude which promotes achievement of full potenGal in an environment embedded in our Gospel values.

At Infant Jesus School our Vision for Learning is based on our beliefs that all children are:

• competent and bring a wealth of experiences and knowledge to the learning task.

• involved in making choices which supports their unique way of learning.

• engaged in meaningful and purposeful tasks which include acGon and reflecGon.

During each iShow, iExplain, iLearnt session the parents, children and the school come together to support, share and celebrate each child’s development and learning.

The children, according to their level of development, proudly and confidently share their knowledge, progress and achievements with their parents through a variety of learning areas and tasks organised to provide addiGonal informaGon and an experience of daily learning in the classroom. It is also a Gme for all children to demonstrate how they conGnue to #ExpectGreatThings of themselves in all areas of their learning.

iShow, iExplain, iLearnt is also a Gme to recognise all the teaching staff, teachers and educaGon assistants, who with great care, enthusiasm and experGse cater for the individual needs of every child. We thank them for their commitment and dedicaGon in supporGng our children to be flourishing life long learners.

A reminder that all bookings must be made through PTO, our online booking systemh]ps://www.infantjesus.wa.edu.au/pto/.

At the moment 231 parents have made a total of 340 bookings - we should have 485 bookings!

BYOD – Year Three Parents 2024

As you may be aware, our personalised 1-1 iPad Program will be moving into its twelkh year at Infant Jesus School. The children’s learning has been enhanced with the use of this technology. It has enabled the learning to occur in a variety of meaningful ways and it has empowered children to integrate tradiGonal learning with the use of technology to further improve their understanding.

The program involves children from Years 3-6 bringing into school their own personal device which has specificaGons as given by the school.

We have planned a parent night on Wednesday 13 September at 6.00pm which will focus on digital ciGzenship and iPad use in the classroom. Parents are urged to a_end the session to have an understanding of the work we are involved in with the learning program. The purpose of this evening will be to highlight how the iPad will be used in class and to answer any quesGons parents have about the logisGcs of this program. New and important informaGon will be given to parents about device requirements for 2024 Year Three students only, so we ask that if you a_ended before you sGll come along.

We ask that you RSVP for your a]endance via the following link: At the moment we have had 45 parents respond we should have 62!

Soundwaves

How can I support my child learning at home with Sound Waves?

There are a number of ways you can support your child’s learning at home. We encourage you to start with these three steps:

1. Familiarise yourself with the sounds

There are 43 sounds (phonemes) in Australian English. In Sound Waves, each sound has an accompanying ‘chant and acGon’. Watch the Animated Chants and AcGons video to familiarise yourself with the 43 sounds.

2. Find out what the focus sound is for the week

Ask your child or their teacher to tell you what the focus sound (or sounds) is for the week. If you have mulGple children across Years 1 to 6, they’ll likely be working on the same focus sound each week.

3. Read stories and discuss words

Reading and spelling go hand-in-hand. Don’t underesGmate the value of reading and discussing words with your child. Simply reading stories is always a worthwhile exercise and it’s a great alternaGve for when you’re unsure of a specific acGvity that your child’s teacher has set for homework.

When reading to younger children, idenGfy words that contain the focus sound. When older children are reading to you, ask them to idenGfy words containing the focus sound.

Keep in mind that Sound Waves may use a different approach to learning to spell than you used at school. Teachers undergo in-depth professional development training to equip themselves with the knowledge, tools and resources to explicitly teach spelling using this method, and do so in a way that’s easy for children to understand.

It’s okay if you don’t understand the answers to acGviGes that are set by the teacher. If your child has been using Sound Waves resources for a while, ask them to explain in their own words what they think is being asked of them. Or, put a pause on that acGvity and have your child move on to another acGvity suggested by the teacher. This year we are working in partnership to assist children in learning phonics/sounds during 2023.

Week 9

oo u is most commonly represented by the graphemes oo and u (e.g. good, push).

Unusual graphemes for oo u used in high frequency words include oul, o and ou (e.g. could, would, shouldwoma n, courier).

oo u is used in the middle of words, but never at the start or end of words (e.g. foot, butcher)

First Eucharist

In conGnuing their preparaGon for First Communion our Year Four children have parGcipated in a Retreat and received the Sacrament of ReconciliaGon.

On Saturday the children and their families will gather at Infant Jesus Church for a celebraRon at either 11.00am or 2.00pm

It is a very exciGng Gme to be supporGng our Year Four students in their faith journey as they receive the Eucharist for the first Gme.

Season of CreaRon

The Season of CreaGon commenced on 1 September and concludes on 4 October, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecologists.

In Pope Francis’s message for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Crea<on, he describes the rhythms and cycles of creaGon as a heartbeat. We can hear the ‘heartbeat of the Earth’ when we slow down and pay a_enGon.

This year the theme of ‘Let JusGce and Peace Flow’ encourages us to act, and share God’s life and love of jusGce with all the people, plants and creatures we meet.

A Prayer for the Season of CreaGon

God who made the world and saw that it was good, God who speaks in flows of living water, God who breathes life and love into us all –May that God meet you by the river, Se_le you to hear creaGon’s heartbeat, Move you to care for the Earth

And give you all the compassion and courage

You need to act for jusGce. Amen.

Safeguarding Sunday is a Gme to raise awareness of the importance of Safeguarding within the church community. Through the Safeguarding Program iniGaGve, we work together to create a safe environment for everyone to flourish. The safeguarding journey of our community is an ongoing commitment.

Only 1 in 16 Aussie kids are eaGng the recommended servings of vegetables; 5 serves.

We are going to change that! Our school is once again taking part in The Great Vegie Crunch on Monday September 18, 2023.

Students are invited to bring crunchy vegetables to school, so that a synchronised crunch can be recorded. How loud can Infant Jesus School crunch? Classes will be provided with some crunchy vegetables but start thinking of vegetables you could bring to munch on, such as crispy carrots, snappy celery, cool cucumber or juicy capsicum. Can we break the sound barrier this year?

This year’s school vegetable crunch compeGGon is pictures within a picture. Students are to create a vegetable made out of other vegetables and fruit. For example, you could draw a capsicum and have different fruit and vegetables inside the capsicum (see the capsicum example below). To enter, submit your vegetable artwork into the Vegie Crunch Box in the library by Monday September, 26. There will be prizes for the winning artwork.

What’s been happening…

Warm welcome to all new families who joined us this term. Can’t believe its already week 8 and holidays are just around the corner.

This term children spent lot of time exploring their environments for natural and recycled resources to use for our art and craft projects. This creates awareness and encourage children to reduce waste and promote responsible consumption of sustainable resources

Children continue to participate in weekly meetings to share their ideas and interests. Recently we reviewed our routines with all children and educat ors. This allows children to feel safe, confident and in control of their environment

We have been lucky to have some sunshine last month and have thoroughly enjoyed our time playing outside. Children played lots of football and Super sports in the oval. Scavenger Hunt organised by Kids club members was super hit
