Next Tuesday 15 August we will celebrate the feast of the AssumpGon of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a special Mass. The feast day celebrate Mary’s AssumpGon into heaven and the Church has made this a Holy Day of ObligaGon.
Mary loved God and always trusted in Him, doing all that God would want of her. Although she became the mother of Jesus, Mary was a simple woman who lived according to the customs and tradiGons of her Jewish faith. On the Feast of the AssumpGon we remember and celebrate that Mary was taken to heaven body and soul by God. This special privilege was given to her because of her sinless and exemplary life and total trust in God.
Infant Jesus Day is a special Gme to honour and celebrate our heritage, tradiGons and charisms. We recognise and reflect with gratefulness and appreciaGon for all who served so generously and contributed their Gme, gips and talents in building our Christ-centred and child focused community of faith.
The Dominican and Carmelite charisms and rich tradiGons are reflected in the history of Infant Jesus School.
Infant Jesus School was named in honour of Jesus and is linked to our Carmelite heritage. The Carmelite saints were all inspired by Jesus’ life, his childhood and his Holy family. We recognise St Teresa of Avila, who shared how to pray and care for others
St Therese of Lisieux, who inspired others with hope and gentleness
St John of the Cross, who shared the message of God’s love for all through prayer, poetry and service.
Our Dominican heritage reflects the Dominican saints who were inspired by the message of Truth. We recognise St Dominic of Calaroga who shared Jesus’ message of Truth through his preaching and life
St Thomas Aquinas (Aquina) whose faith in God and was an example of the Good News for all.
St Catherine of Siena who inspired those in need with hope someGmes during very difficult Gmes.
St Rose of Lima who shared God’s love with others, especially those who were ill.
The faith, hope and love of God guided these saints as they shared the teachings of Christ and the message of the Good News through their words and acGons.
Infant Jesus School today reflects the Carmelite and Dominican charisms in our vision where we ‘develop the whole child to seek the truth through the teachings of Christ in Faith, Hope, and Love.’
The story of Infant Jesus School commenced in 1954. This year, on Infant Jesus Day, we will learn more about the history of our school from the year it was established unGl today.
Sharing our story and our history inspires and enables all to belong, to learn, to be grateful and to share how we #ExpectGreatThings at Infant Jesus School.
