From the Principal

Lord

Open up our heart so that we may hear the message you teach of a world in which the wrongs of the past are recognised. A world in which a reconciled people walk and talk together sharing stories; a world in which all burn with the desire to have your peace and jus>ce reign.

Amen

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to our Week Six newslePer.

Well done to everyone who par<cipated in our cross country event on Tuesday as every par<cipant gained points for their fac<on. Congratula<ons to all fac<ons but a special men<on goes to Lima who won the cross country shield. Special thanks to Miss Witkowski for organising the event, Mrs King for scoring and to all of the wonderful parent helpers who ensured that the event ran smoothly.

There are a number of students who are arriving to school very early. Supervision begins for students in the Piazza at 8am in the morning, with classrooms opening at 8.30am. For safety reasons, please do not drop students off to school before this <me as the gates may not be open prior to 8am. OSH Club is available in the mornings for students who need to be dropped off prior to supervision <mes. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the office.

We have received no<fica<on from the City of Bayswater that there has been an<social behaviour occurring in the Peter’s Place parking area outside of school hours. To help combat this, the City of Bayswater will be installing a gate in the near future. We will ensure that this gate will be unlocked during 8.00am to 3.30pm so that parents can con<nue to u<lise this area. Parents are able to con<nue to use the Church Carpark if there is no parking available around the school.

Our Year Six students are looking forward to their camp next week from the 29 to 31 May. A number of staff, including the Leadership Team, will be aPending the camp with the class teachers. Mrs Tampalini and Mrs King are available for any immediate queries during this <me. Good luck Year Sixes!

Please note that following the WA Day public holiday, there is no school for students on Tuesday 4 June as it is a professional development day for staff.

Lifelink Day is celebrated on the 5 June. To help raise funds for the Archbishops Lifelink Appeal, students are welcome to come to school in their pyjamas for a gold coin dona<on.

Next week is reconcilia<on week. The Na<onal Reconcilia<on Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no maPer what, the fight for jus<ce and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will and must con<nue.

NaSonal Simultaneous Story

Time

On Wednesday 22 May children from Kindergarten to Year Six joined the Na<onal Simultaneous Story <me live event. Every year a picture book, wriPen and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its twenty third successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book. This year show children and share with them the love of reading.

Staying healthy in Winter

The season of winter is around the corner. Winter is onen a welcome change in Western Australia aner our long, hot summers. But while we live in a temperate climate, winter in most parts means significant drops in temperatures, greater rainfall and storms. Several health condi<ons are specifically associated with the clima<c condi<ons during our coldest season. For some <ps to help protect you and your family from those illnesses most associated with winter please visit the following website- hPp://healthywa.wa.gov.au/Ar<cles/S_T/ Staying-healthy-in-winter

WA Day

WA Day 2024, Monday 3 June, is a day to celebrate all Western Australians and recognises everyone who has made and con<nues to make, Western Australia their home. We reflect and celebrate all the great things about our people, our lifestyle, our culture and our future.

Crea<ng A Prayerful Space

We have been fortunate in Year 3 to have Miss Smith from Notre Dame University teach us some very exci<ng lessons. This term, the students have been focusing on the unit of ‘Prayer.’ To begin their understanding, the Year Threes worked in groups to create a prayer that reflected the beauty of crea<on, including praise and thanksgiving to God. The students were then asked to create a prayerful space with a variety of items that reflected their special prayer. All students worked together as a team and were very enthusias<c and proud of their crea<ons. They then took pictures and created a ‘Clips’ video reflec<ng on the lesson.

“I liked using different materials and natural things, it reminded me of doing fun things in kindy.” - Luca.

“I liked wri<ng a prayer together in my group.” - Aurora.

“It was a really good lesson and was crea<ve.” - Georgia.

Year Three

Year Four

Wriggling Towards Sustainability

In Year Four we have been learning about explana>on texts. An explana>on text explains how or why something happens, or gives informa>on on how to do something.

As inspira>on for our next explana>on text, we par>cipated in an incursion run by The Worm Shed. Sam and Joanne taught us about what worms like and dislike and their anatomy, before we made our very own worm farms.

Worms help keep our soil healthy and are food for other animals. Most importantly, however, worms play an important role in recycling organic material and reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill.

We had a lot of fun during this incursion and can’t wait to explain how to make a worm farm in our next wri>ng piece
