Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to our first newsleSer of the term.
You may have no9ced that the Peter’s Place Car Park gate now has a chain installed. This measure has been taken by the City of Bayswater due to an9social behaviour outside of school hours and they have kindly given us a key so that parent’s can con9nue to use the carpark for drop off and pick up. The school will open the gate from 8:00 AM to 3:25 PM. We are also wai9ng for repairs on the exit gate onto Lovegrove way and we ask that you exit the carpark by 3.25 while we are manually closing and locking it each day. Thank you for your understanding and coopera9on.
Recently there have been cars external to the school parking in the bus bay in Smith Street, long term, which creates issues for those parents using it for a quick drop off zone or when we have buses needing to park. We have contacted the City of Bayswater rangers about this issue and we wanted to inform you in the event that there are more ranger patrols in the area. Please be extra vigilant in where you park or wait to pick up your children – we have placed a copy of the City of Bayswater School Parking guidelines in the newsleSer for your informa9on.
Mr Colangelo, Miss McMullen, Mr EllioS, and I had the opportunity to aSend the Apple EducaMon Community Summit in Sydney during the school holidays. This event provided valuable networking opportuni9es with educators from other Apple Dis9nguished schools. We exchanged insights, learned about innova9ve prac9ces, and explored ways to enhance our teaching and learning experiences. We look forward to bringing back new ideas and strategies to benefit our students.
I would like to thank Miss Witkowski for her 9reless efforts in preparing our students for the Interschool Cross Country event held earlier this week. Not only did our interschool team give their all during the compe99on, but they also exhibited exemplary behaviour throughout the day. Congratula9ons to everyone involved.
On Tuesday 6 August, we’re celebra9ng our UR Strong program with a Day of Friendship. Students will engage in an exci9ng online Day of Friendship session and par9cipate in various ac9vi9es in their classrooms. To show their friendship spirit, children are encouraged to wear green on this special day.
Enjoy the rest of the week.

Literacy-Pro
Comprehension is an essen9al reading skill that allows us to understand the meaning of text, pictures, movies, songs and more. As a way to enhance the comprehension skills of our older students, we have a home reading programLiteracy Pro- that is used in Year 3-6
Literacy Pro measures each student’s reading ability using a fast, adap9ve online test. Children ini9ally complete an online test at school which is assessed by the computer-based Lexile analyser. This gives students a reading level from BR (Beginning Reader) to 1500. This is ojen referred to as a Lexile reading level or score. It enables teachers to monitor student progress throughout the year and keep track of their comprehension and vocabulary development.
Students are able to choose from a range of books which match their Lexile level in their library 9mes. Addi9onally, there are digital books available online in the Lexile site and your child may even find their favourite book from home has a quiz available. Choosing a book that is at their level ensures that students are challenged but not frustrated by their chosen book. Ajer each book is read, students complete a quiz online which consists of 10 ques9ons about the book they have just read. Students need to score at least 7/10 ques9ons correct in order to pass the book and earn designated points for that book. This quiz is part of the Infant Jesus School homework program. Please note, if your child does not get 7/10 this is not seen as a problem, but rather that the book was too difficult, and they either need to re-read the book, or the program will recalculate their level.

You respect any decision by a parent to disengage with you or their child, and you remain open to re-engage in the future.
8. You act to strengthen, preserve, restore and promote posi9ve rela9onships between the student and their parents, family members, and those significant to the student, regardless of any breakdown in these rela9onships.

No Stopping Areas
No Stopping areas can be defined by signage or a continuous yellow line painted along the edge of a road. A driver is not permitted to stop on a length of road or in an area to where no stopping restrictions apply. Vehicles may only stop in these zones to comply with other regulations (for example at traffic lights or to avoid an accident). Drivers are not permitted to drop off passengers or goods in “No Stopping” areas.
Examples of Signs
Double Parking
A driver must not stop a vehicle so that any portion of the vehicle is between any other stopped vehicle and the centre of the road.
