Infant Jesus School

The child-focused and Christ-centred community of Infant Jesus School has con=nued to thrive amidst the many challenges in 2022.
As a Catholic school the teachings of Christ are embedded in all that we do and con=nue to inspire and guide us now and in the future. In Faith we share the Good News; in Truth we inspire others; in Hope we are grateful for this =me, and as a community we build on Love, and we follow the footsteps and example of Jesus.
In 2022, especially in First Semester and par=cularly in Term One, our work was very interes=ng and, at =mes, challenging, as the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic impacted our lives and our learning. As we commenced this year of school we had to be ever more adaptable in maintaining educa=onal con=nuity, while communica=ng almost daily updates from the WA Health Department.
Our priority, as a school and as a wider community, was to ensure that everyone was as healthy and safe as possible. At =mes, this required some classes and year levels to access remote learning. We also had to provide almost all communica=on with families either digitally or via phone.
As a school and staff we approached every update regarding health, safety and educa=on with a ‘We Can Do This’ mindset. This approach required great care, empathy and support for all as we experienced a much more extreme aspect of the pandemic for the first =me in Western Australia.
Our posi=ve approach ensured that educa=onal con=nuity was maintained. Throughout Term One and Term Two, hundreds of home learning packs were provided to ensure that children and families, following the on protocols, were successfully engaged and supported in the learning. The school also created and provided a hands-on integrated Learning nuity Pack for every child and family, so that educa=on could con=nue if plans changed to remote learning.
We are very fortunate that children in the middle and upper years could also access much of the learning and online lessons via their device. Parents of children in the lower years, including Kindergarten, also used
digital technology very successfully to access the learning.
Digital communica=on was a very strong feature for all aspects of school. Through the two communica plaYorms, Seesaw and SEQTA, our families received hundreds of health messages including infographics, movies and books to assist with the constantly updated informa=on. Messages commenced from the beginning of the year and included physical distancing and all adults wearing masks to keep everyone safe. Not long a]er, and for the very =me, all students from Years Three to Six were also wearing masks –un=l the end of Term One.
Our digital tools, knowledge, exper commitment of staff enabled our families to be connected and well informed. Families were also provided with a Parent Informa week of school, which included a presenta class teachers, a booklet and the opportunity to ask ques=ons and provide feedback. Many pastoral calls to families were also made to share informa=on and assist with planning. At the conclusion of Term One, the usual parent-teacher mee=ngs were implemented via phone. Digital porYolios, implemented in 2022, also assisted families with current informa=on about learning progress.
With all the changes, we ensured that expecta=ons for school were consistent for all the children. Each day, school con=nued to be engaging, mo=va=ng and exci=ng for all our learners. We had celebra=ons and reflec=ons throughout the term to enrich our faith and to assist us in our awareness of others in our community and around the world. This included an Ash Wednesday Liturgy of the Word, Holy Week reflec=on, St Patrick’s Day, virtual assemblies, the once in a life=me event of Twosday, Harmony Day, the Project Compassion ac=vites and Pyjama Day on the last day of Term One.
With the many new opportuni=es presented, especially at the beginning of the year, our focus on learning, improving and #Expec=ngGreatThings con=nued. Our aspira=on of A LEADing Learning School was demonstrated as Catholic, nurtured, playbased, contemporary, mo=vated, life-long, innova=ve, connected and leaders and learners, who apply and share the unique gi]s, talents and abili=es that God has given them to flourish and strive for excellence.
At the commencement of this year, some ini=a=ves were introduced to support and enhance Catholic Iden=ty, Educa=on, Community and Stewardship.
In 2022 we focussed on the Eucharist, Witness, teaching of Religious Educa=on and knowledge of our Catholic faith by developing a greater understanding of prayers, songs, gestures and symbols in Eucharis=c celebra=ons.
• Con=nuing to deepen our faith knowledge through a retreat day led by Mario Borg. This assisted our teaching and the sharing of our faith through our daily interac=ons.
• sharing the Good News through our ac=ons and prayer. We have con=nued to develop a greater awareness of the needs of others through Project Compassion, Lifelink, Children’s Mission and St Vincent de Paul agencies.
• Par=cipa=ng in addi=onal workshops to further support the implementa=on of the revised CEWA RE programs.
• Success criteria document learning achievements at all levels and are also included in rubrics.
• Rubrics are shared within porYolio samples and provide more informa=on regarding achievements for the children and families.
• Feedback supports improvement and enhances links between home and school and is provided by teachers and parents. Our digital resources enable parents to provide both wriien and verbal feedback.
• Integra=on supports children in becoming lifelong learners as they apply skills and knowledge across all curriculum areas.
• Learning goals, shared with parents, assist students to be reflec=ve, independent and responsible in their individual learning journey.
• The classroom environment is both contemporary and flexible to nurture, mo=vate and support students to be engaged, mo=vated, crea=ve, organised, independent and purposeful problem solvers in their learning.
• Data is con=nually collected by teachers to assist with planning. This informa=on has been very valuable in our focus on educa=onal con=nuity for all students in 2022.
• The Digital PorYolio has transformed evidence of learning to enable access throughout the year. During the pandemic this document provided addi=onal informa=on for parents and families.
• i-Show, i-Explain, i-Learnt provided a very interac=ve opportunity for students to independently share their classroom environment, knowledge and skills from various learning areas.
Our focus is to support the individual needs and agency of all the students through a range of resources and strategies including:
• Voice of the Child surveys specific to the age of the children, to assist with some individual, class, year level and whole school planning.
• The Wellbeing Team organising programs where students are provided with a range of ac=vi=es to support social and emo=onal development. Staff also par=cipate in the wellbeing focus.
The elements of i-Succeed, including learning inten=ons, success criteria, feedback, integra=on, environment, learning goals, rubrics, data tracking and a digital porYolio (PP – Year 6) is a whole school approach that supports quality student learning. Through the exper=se of the staff:
• Learning inten=ons are used across the curriculum areas and also shared weekly with families.
• Sensory tools, resources, equipment and strategies to support self-regula=on and independence, including a drama=c play area, a small trampoline and a low climbing wall.
• i-Relax has con=nued to be used and improved as staff and students develop and further enhance resources and strategies to help support wellbeing.
We have undertaken to support all students and the community by con=nuing to focus on providing excellence in the environment through:
• Enhancing the learning spaces in Year One and Two with the furniture upgrade.
• Implemen=ng cashless strategies including the canteen at Chisholm and some P&F events.
• Focusing on prac=cal ways to care for our common home by implemen=ng sustainable prac=ces including; cash for cans, juice boxes, paper recycling and the solar panels.
• Commencing construc=on on the li] which will provide access for all.
During the year, we have had some important opportuni=es to share the ‘Good News’ of Infant Jesus School.
In Term Three, Infant Jesus School was selected to host the CEWA Regional Roadshow with approximately 100 aiendees; including the CEWA Execu=ve Director, the CEWA Execu=ve, principals and leadership teams. Year Six students also welcomed and shared informa=on about Infant Jesus School during school tours.
During Term Four, Infant Jesus School hosted the Technology in Schools challenge where approximately one hundred teachers and students from various schools par=cipated in a variety of technology challenges. The focus of the day was to share ideas and inspire others in integra=ng technology skills, tools and resources across all curriculum areas.
Our vision to develop the whole child to seek the truth through the teachings of Christ in faith, hope and love is supported by our aspira=on to provide a world-class Catholic school where there are opportuni=es for all students, staff and parents to flourish.
This aspira=on con=nues to inspire us all in our various roles in the school and the wider community, as we view changes and challenges as opportuni=es to support each other in learning, growing and improving
throughout 2022.
The Execu=ve Team consis=ng of the Assistant Principals, Mr Frank Colangelo (Terms 2, 3 and 4), Miss Melissa Myles and Miss Sandra McMullen (Term 1) have been very co-ordinated, adaptable and effec=ve in organising various aspects within the school day, week and term for the staff and the students. Their leadership has ensured that the vision of the school has been the focus in both short and long term planning.
Our Execu=ve Team also includes Mrs Irene Baginski who has an extensive and detailed knowledge of the school. Irene is very thorough in her many tasks and responsibili=es and is very pastoral and suppor=ve, making everyone feel ‘at ease’ in all situa=ons.
The staff including the teachers, support reachers and educa=on assistants have worked with great professionalism, dedica=on and enthusiasm this year. In unprecedented =mes in Term One where health informa=on was changing almost daily, the teaching staff remained very focused on caring for and suppor=ng the pastoral and learning needs of all the children. They are highly praised for their professionalism, commitment to excellence, crea=vity and ability to be ever more innova=ve in going above and beyond as the situa=on changed almost daily. The programming and planning from each teacher was also both adaptable and engaging as, for some classes and year levels, the change to remote learning took place overnight!
The exper=se, coopera=on and calmness of all the teaching staff mo=vated the children, enabled them to share their gi]s and talents, and supported them to flourish as life-long learners.
Our teachers and teaching staff were incredible in ‘rising to the occasion’ every =me there was a new announcement, restric=on or procedure that had to be enacted. I am extremely grateful for their approach and willingness to view this challenging experience as an opportunity where we could s=ll con=nue to #ExpectGreatThings and #ExceedExpecta=ons.
The Extended Leadership Team has assisted with school improvement, whole school ini=a=ves and annual goals. They have worked collabora=vely and have been provided with opportuni=es to enhance their leadership skills to further support staff, the children and the school community.
I sincerely thank the 2022 Extended Leadership Team – Miss Sandra McMullen, Miss Deanna Fo=, Mrs Leesa Raden= and Miss Anna Piazzola who have shared their knowledge, skills and exper=se to improve outcomes for all at Infant Jesus School.
The non-teaching staff are o]en the first connec=on for parents or visitors to the school. Mrs Irene Baginksi, Mrs Anne Stent, Mrs Cheryl Macpherson (Terms 1 and 2) and Mrs Lucy Siciliano (Terms 3 and 4) answer and make calls, take and send messages and interact with many parents and students every day. The ability to complete a number of tasks at the same =me is o]en seen in the office and it is all done with professionalism, care and aien=on to detail.
Mrs Sue Bonomi took on the library posi=on this year and con=nued to promote a love of reading by providing an ever increasing selec=on of books.
Ms Ariane Thirion, joined our staff this year in the role of social worker. Throughout the year she shared her exper=se and experience to support health and wellbeing in children, staff and families. She has been generous with her =me and adaptable in developing strategies for individual children both in the class and in the playground.
The grounds of the school are very well maintained by Mr Tony Pizzata and Mr Tuan Nguyen. Their daily work ensures that the school is cared for and is safe and =dy. They are also very helpful, approachable and adaptable in assis=ng with school events and celebra=ons. New families and visitors always have very posi=ve comments about the school grounds.
In con=nuing to improve facili=es and ensure safety around the school we have:
• Updated the furniture in Year Three and Year Four that was in place from the commencement of the year.
• Installed a new gate at the entrance of the school.
• Updated safety through adding electronic gates at Russell Street and Lovegrove Way.
• Updated safety by installing speed humps in the early childhood carpark.
• Added equipment to the Sensory Project including a small trampoline, short climbing wall and drama=c play area.
• Developed a small Bush Garden area.

Infant Jesus School and Infant Jesus Parish worked very closely throughout the year. I sincerely thank Fr Greg for his empathy, knowledge and enthusiasm. He con=nues to regularly visit the school and talk to classes across the year levels. This greatly assists with the faith development of the children, the staff and the families. Fr Greg has a wonderful understanding of our school community, and in addi=on to visi=ng the classes Fr Greg o]en leads our Eucharis=c celebra=ons and prayers. He is very adaptable, even leading prayer virtually, as on Ash Wednesday this year. He is also a member of the School Advisory Council and aiends all the Sacramental mee=ngs.
This year, we were very saddened by Fr Tadgh’s passing in March. He was very well known around the school by the staff and children. He also assisted Fr Greg in many ways by some=mes visi=ng classes, leading our Eucharis=c celebra=ons and assis=ng with the Sacramental Program. Fr Greg is also assisted by Fr John who o]en supports the Sacramental Program and occasionally leads our Eucharis=c celebra=ons. For a short =me this year Br Adalbert also assisted Fr Greg in his work at Infant Jesus School.
The Parish Sacramental Team, led by Mrs Theresa Choo and assisted by Mrs Sue Goodwin and Mrs Billie Dewii have all supported aspects of the program, organised to provide ever easier access for families to nurture the faith journey of all. To further assist families, the team have been very innova=ve in developing processes that can all be accessed online. We are extremely grateful that the Parish Sacramental Team is so adaptable, approachable, caring, commiied and professional. This supports the focus of the Archdiocese Family Focused, Parish Based and School Supported Sacramental Program.
The School Advisory Council has been very dedicated and suppor=ve in their work this year. I thank them and their families for their generosity in providing =me to aiend the mee=ngs to support the school. This year, due to the pandemic, we also aiended an online mee=ng.
I am very grateful to:
• Mr Sam Modica (Chair)
• Fr Greg Burke (Parish Priest)
• Mr Dharshwan Elikewela (Treasurer)
• Mrs Joanna Brisbane (Secretary)
• Mrs Jessica Musca (Member)
• Mrs Nicole Mammone (Member)
• Mrs Tanya Davis (Member)
• Mrs Jenny Allpike (P&F Representa=ve)
• Mr Frank Colangelo (Ex-Officio)
• Miss Melissa Myles (Ex-Officio)
• Miss Clare Moffat (Principal)
The views of all members on the School Advisory Council have been much appreciated and valuable in providing current and future perspec=ves. With the pandemic challenges in Semester One their enthusiasm, posi=vely and hope for the future was much appreciated.
In addi=on to the School Advisory Council mee=ngs, Sam and Dharsh, as members of the Finance Commiiee, also aiend an addi=onal mee=ng. The knowledge and professionalism in this area has been very beneficial in assis=ng the school currently and in the future.
I sincerely thank Mr Sam Modica who has served on the School Advisory Council for the last six years – firstly as treasurer and in the last four years as Chair. Sam’s wisdom, perspec=ve and knowledge is much appreciated and greatly valued. He has been very dedicated, professional and prac=cal in his leadership which has greatly supported and benefiied our community.
Sincere thanks also to the families of the P&F Execu=ve for all your help during the year which has enabled the P&F to support the school. Special thanks to the P&F Class Representa=ves who have connected all the families in the class in somewhat challenging =mes – especially in First Semester. Your support in sharing informa=on, connec=ng new and established families and encouraging others to be involved in various events has been very much appreciated.
Within the school there are also camp and club co-ordinators who are sincerely thanked for all their work in these areas which, in 2022, included:
• Soccer Club
• Netball Club
• Mother and Daughter Camp
• Father and Son Camp
We greatly value the partnership between home and school and the assistance that parents provide. This might involve a camp, a spor=ng club or volunteering at spor=ng carnivals or special events such as Infant Jesus Day or the school disco. The support of parent volunteers is invaluable, as many of these ac=vi=es could not take place without this assistance. Most importantly, parent support con=nues at home where they assist children with homework, enthusias=cally discussing school happenings and events and further developing the children’s skills as life-long learners.
The P&F Execu=ve have been extremely flexible, adaptable, dedicated and enthusias=c amid the many changes in 2022. Very sincere thanks to
• Mrs Vanessa Gar (President)
• Mrs Karen Holden (Treasurer)
• Mrs Giulia De Rizzo (Secretary)
The P&F Execu=ve meet with the Leadership Team to support the school and the community. This year in addi=on to offering pastoral support to families if they were unable to bring their children to school during the pandemic they have also implemented some new ideas including Pasta, Cheesie Days, and a Family Picnic.
The P&F Execu=ve have been fantas=c in organising the Sausage Sizzle on Infant Jesus Day, refreshments for the Fac=on Athle=c Carnival, the School Disco, the P&F Carpark Bay and a raffle.
Thank you to the parents for your support and posi=vity this year. It has been very interes=ng, par=cularly in Semester One, to ensure that, as much as possible, children could s=ll par=cipate in all the opportuni=es provided at school.
The communica=on in 2022 has been quite overloaded at =mes as the focus was on ensuring that the community was as safe as possible. Thank you for your empathy in considering the needs of others, following the various restric=ons to support the health requirements and ensuring that your children were very well prepared for school each day. It was also very much appreciated that children, through the help of parents, could also recognise that health needs were always a priority. Thank you also for your con=nued support of the school learning programs.
Thank you to all the children for your effort during this year. The children con=nually inspire us and it is a privilege to be suppor=ng them as life-long learners.
>> Farewell and Best Wishes to: Mr Paul Hille, has been our Principal since July 2016. During Paul’s leadership he inspired all with his vision, dedica=on, enthusiasm, organisa=on, crea=ve and innova=ve ideas and his focus on improvement for all in the community. We have greatly benefiied from his professionalism and his approach in ensuring that excellence and high standards were always maintained and the mindset of #ExpectGreatThings was embedded by the children, the staff and the community.
Paul’s gi]s and talents in engaging, mo=va=ng and involving staff, students and the community in the many opportuni=es provided at Infant Jesus School has ensured that all have been supported and flourished due to his care, empathy, wisdom, perspec=ve and commitment.
We wish Paul all the very best in his new posi=on and hope that that some of the spirit of Infant Jesus School is with him as Principal of Mel Maria Catholic Primary School.
Miss Melissa Myles was our Ac=ng Assistant Principal for the last two years and staff member for the last ten years. As a school we have benefiied from Melissa’s leadership, commitment, enthusiasm, crea=vity and generosity in contribu=ng to improvement at Infant Jesus School. We hope that she con=nues to thrive in leadership in her new role as Assistant Principal at St Helena’s Catholic Primary School.
Mrs Cheryl Macpherson and Mrs Sue Bonomi have both been staff members for more than twenty years. During this =me, they have enthusias=cally and very generously contributed to the vision of Infant Jesus School. We wish them all the best in their new ventures.
Miss Deanna Fo=, Mrs Andrea Middleton and Miss Sophie Keeffe leave Infant Jesus School for posi=ons at other Catholic schools and CEWA. We thank them for their commitment and for sharing their gi]s and talents in contribu=ng to and suppor=ng the vision of our school.
Mrs Maddelyn Mansergh, Miss Giulia Pasquale, Mrs Leonie Cornish and Mrs Fran Ienco also conclude their =me at Infant Jesus School as they pursue other ventures. We thank them for their dedica=on and enthusiasm and for all they have given to assist our school.
To each Year Six student, I hope that you take some of the spirit of Infant Jesus School with you as you con=nue to reflect on, develop and share the many gi]s that God has given you throughout your life. May the teachings of Christ – Faith, Hope and Love con=nue to guide you as you seek Truth. May you con=nue to #ExpectGreatThings in all you do and #ExceedExpecta=ons in your goals and achievements.
To the families who are leaving our community, I hope that your =me at Infant Jesus School has been nurturing, enjoyable and fulfilling and that the experiences provided have inspired and contributed to enhancing your journey as a life-long learner.
As we share and support each other every day in our journey of faith through prayer, rela=onships and interac=ons we reflect on our faith that unites us; hope that inspires us to be grateful for all the blessings we receive; love that reflects the gi]s and talents that God has given us to share and truth that is visible through our witness of the Good News.
As a child-focused and Christ-centred Catholic community we look forward to con=nuing to provide opportuni=es to support the improvement journey in 2023.
In the secondment of Mr Paul Hille it has been a privilege to be the Principal and I am very blessed to have led Infant Jesus School this year.
I wish everyone a holy, peaceful and joy-filled Christmas and a safe, healthy, relaxing and enjoyable holiday with family and friends. I look forward to working with everyone next year.
>> Clare Moffat PrincipalLiturgy in a crea=ve and digital world In 2022 saw our faith develop in new and different ways. With the school year beginning with COVID-19 restric=ons, we were lucky that our Year Six leaders were able to be commissioned in the Hall by Fr Greg, while the rest of the school watched on using the livestream in their classrooms. Our liturgical celebra=ons con=nued to be digital, with the Ash Wednesday Liturgy also live-streamed into classrooms. The piazza was filled with the sounds of singing as the whole school followed the liturgy in real =me, and Fr Greg visited each class to sprinkle ashes. In order to keep everyone in our community safe while reflec=ng upon the events of Holy Week, a digital version of the Sta=ons of the Cross was created and shared with families, allowing them to pray this special tradi=on of Holy Week at home.
very fortunate to belong to such a welcoming and vibrant parish. We especially thank Father Greg and the en=re parish for sharing the gi] of the sacraments and our Catholic life with us.
In order to develop our charisms, our classes have focused on the fac=on saints this year- St Rose of Lima, St Thomas Aquinas, St Dominic of Calaroga and St Catherine of Siena. Tables and flags have been set up in the piazza on or near their feast days and ac=vi=es created by Year Six students to recognise the saints’ lives.
The children and school community welcomed a new member of our parish to our community - Br Adalbert Imperial, a deacon who was preparing to be ordained into the priesthood. The children enjoyed learning about the role a deacon has in our church, the Carmelite tradi=ons and all the things they know that a priest does in his role in the church. In December Br Ad will become Fr Ad, as he is ordained as a Catholic priest. We are very excited to have Fr Ad join us next year as a priest in Infant Jesus Parish.
When the Eastern States was hit by the floods, Fr Greg highlighted a connec=on between our community at the diocese of Lismore - as the Bishop of Lismore is a Carmelite. The students raised money to send to Lismore, and this was even more special when Bishop Greg visited our school in August and spoke to the children about the difference their fundraising made to the clean up efforts in Lismore. Our students were very excited and thankful to Bishop Greg for sharing where their money went.
Our school community again worked closely with Infant Jesus Parish, par=cularly with the Sacramental Program. Due to COVID-19 cases in our community, the Confirma=on enrolment process was taken online with Fr Greg and Theresa Choo recording the parent informa=on session as a video. Fortunately restric=ons were li]ed and all were welcomed to aiend the sacramental celebra=ons.
As COVID-19 cases subsided, it was a joy for our school to join the parish once again for Eucharis=c celebra=ons. A highlight of the year was when the school joined the parish on a Saturday night for family mass, and our school choir led the congrega=on in singing. We are
In August Infant Jesus School was visited by Mai Poyn=ng, the head of Catholic Mission Australia, who thanked Infant Jesus School for their generous dona=ons from the 2021 Socktober event. Mai taught the children about the impact Catholic Mission was having in third world countries and how this was only made possible thanks to the dona=ons from people in Australia.
Infant Jesus Day was a celebra=on of community as no restric=ons meant family members could join us to celebrate our school.
The day began with the children learning about their fac=on saint through an art ac=vity, before giving thanks to God through the Eucharist. A]er lunch the children held stalls to raise money for Catholic Mission. Over $3500 was raised in the spirit of giving to others.
In August, Infant Jesus Parish celebrated the 30 year anniversary of the dedica presided by Bishop Greg. The parish then held a fete that was open to all members of the community and some staff from Infant Jesus School volunteered to assist at the children’s stall. It was fantas many families a
Infant Jesus School and Santa Clara School were acknowledged with a merit award for the collabora project - A Christmas Bardip. The students made a digital book that retold the na and Noongar and it has been shared across the Archdiocese of Perth and in Catholic schools across Western Australia. This is a valuable resource for Catholic schools across Western Australia.

At Infant Jesus School, we believe in providing challenging and mo=va=ng learning opportuni=es for all students.
This year the students at Infant Jesus school, have been fortunate to apply their learning in various contexts. Our Year Six i-Excel Mathema=cs students par=cipated in the ‘Have Sum Fun’ Compe==on in Term Three and a different group of students par=cipated in the Annual Numero Interschool Compe==on. Both compe==ons required some support and training to further enhance their numeracy concepts, problem-solving skills and teamwork while having fun at the same =me.
The Speak Up Award programme provided opportuni=es for our selected students to learn, develop and prac=se public speaking skills. Students were required to research, compose and deliver a speech that shows a depth of understanding of a topic of their choice. The compe==on provided students with an opportunity to express their views confidently, using appropriate speaking skills.
iExcel Chinese was introduced this year. Students who possessed a strong desire and competence with the language were selected to be part of this exci=ng new ini=a=ve. They used their knowledge and understanding of the language to enter many exci=ng compe==ons.
Our talented Year Six students entered the Confucius Ins=tute’s Short Film Compe==on. The theme was “Chinese culture through the lens” 镜头下的中国⽂化
The students created a short vlog about Chinese Cuisine, which demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of the Chinese language.
This year, Infant Jesus School hosted the Inaugural Technology Inter-School Challenge. A junior and a senior team par=cipated in the ac=vi=es and our Year Six students supported and facilitated many of the ac=vi=es. These students used their knowledge of coding and robo=cs to complete technology challenges based around the book, ‘We are Australians’ by Duncan Smith and Nicole Godwin. This was a successful and exci=ng opportunity for our students.
In Term One, Learning Con=nuity Packs were sent home with all students to ensure that the learning process could con=nue even in a ‘home learning’ context. All students were provided with support materials and tools which would assist them when working remotely using the Remote Learning Program.
In addi=on to this, Quaran=ne Packs were created and distributed. If a student was iden=fied as a close contact and were required to isolate, a Quaran=ne Pack was distributed via the school’s Leadership Team. The Quaran=ne Pack contained English, Mathema=cs, Religion, and integrated tasks. Students completed these if they were well enough during the isola=on period. They would bring this work back upon their return to school to share with their teacher.
To support teachers with the assessment of wri=ng, the Brightpath online so]ware tool con=nued to be used to provide more informa=on regarding wri=ng expecta=ons. This tool enabled teachers to collect specific data about each students’ wri=ng which then ensured that planning and teaching was directed to students’ learning needs in wri=ng. Children are also able to use the wri=ng outcomes to assist in the selec=on of their wri=ng goals.
The school has con=nued to invest heavily in the purchase of reading resources to assist in the further enhancement of the reading program. We con=nue to thank the P&F and School Advisory Council who support us financially for the purchase of these resources.
The overall results for 2022 NAPLAN provided evidence that the cohort on average have achieved above the na=onal average in Year Three and Year Five in numeracy, reading, grammar and punctua=on, spelling and wri=ng.
The NAPLAN results for 2022 are listed compared to all schools in Australia:
On the 24 August 2022, the Year Three students were chosen to par=cipate in the Young Voices Choir as part of the Catholic Performing Arts Fes=val. This was the first =me the Year Three students were involved; therefore, they were eager to perform. The students travelled to the Vasto Club in Balcaia and performed two songs en=tled ‘My Kiien’ and ‘Rocketship’ led by Ms Carroll. It was a fantas=c opportunity for Year Three to showcase their singing abili=es.
The bush garden project was ini=ated at Infant Jesus school by the Year 6 students and their teachers. The
Infant Jesus Day is always one of the most exci=ng and an days in our school year, when we recognise, honour and acknowledge the charisms, history, tradi=ons and heritage of our school. Infant Jesus School was established by the Dominican sisters to support the Catholic families in the Parish and to provide a quality Catholic on for the community.
The theme for this year's Infant Jesus Day was on Saints: St Thomas Aquinas, St Rose of Lima, St Dominic of Calaroga and St Catherine of Siena. Each year level created an artwork of their fac=on saint which was then used in the 2022 Magazine.
and students were then joined by the parents and wider community at Infant Jesus Parish in Mass. Upon returning to school, the very generous P&F organised a sausage sizzle. The stalls around the school were fun, enjoyable and successful in raising money to support the missionary work around the world.
We gathered together as a community to celebrate our fac=on spirit at the Athle=cs Carnival. The compe=tors put in a fantas=c ort and sportsmanship. The staff and Wellness Ministry worked hard on the day to organise the events, set up, pack up, score, marshal and supervise the students throughout the day. Many fantas=c parents volunteered their =me to help out at the carnival whose involvement and support were vital for the running of the day. The lovely P&F and families organised food and drink for families for the day. It was a wonderful, sunny day for the Infant Jesus School community.
love our dads. This was followed by ‘Donuts with Dad’ on the basketball courts. We had over 300 grandparents come to Infant Jesus School to celebrate Grandparent’s Day on a sunny a]ernoon in Term Four. The students escorted their grandparents around the school to show them their crea= piazza and to listen to the amazing school choir. They then were treated to co delicious muffins.
To prepare the Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students for the 2022 school year, the early childhood teachers created social stories to share with families. These social stories helped the students feel safe, comfortable and connected to their teachers.
In 2022, we con=nued to live and work through the COVID-19 Pandemic. The year began with some students and families needing to isolate for seven days. Infant Jesus School con=nued to have protocols in place to keep the staff, students and school community safe. Seesaw was used to keep communica=on open between home and school. Students were provided with learning packs to con=nue their learning journeys at home.
The Parent Night in 2022 was different this year as it was changed to online. Teachers and staff worked hard to make a video and document available via Seesaw that detailed the learning and expecta=ons of the year level.

As part of our NAIDOC week celebra=ons, we reflected on how Aboriginal people shared stories through symbols.
Each child received a stone and drew Noongar symbols using paint pens. These stones were then placed to form the scales of a the ‘Rainbow Serpent’ created by Mr Tuan. This collabora=ve art piece allowed children feel a sense of belonging and connec=on to this special place by being able to find their own stone in the garden and enjoy being able to explore and connect to concepts learnt in class in a real-world experience.
To con=nue having canteen available for children this year a canteen service partnership with Chisholm Catholic College was formed.
