It’s a Sweet Deal: Membership Recap At this year’s IIDA Houston City Center Membership Event everyone learned why IIDA is such a SWEET deal. The event was held at Little J’s, a local bar on Washington Avenue where party goers learned about IIDA and the benefits of membership. The theme this year was “Membership, it’s a SWEET deal”. There was a great turn out of about 60 people including several new faces to the IIDA crowd. The space was set up with three stations where attendees could learn about different reasons that make IIDA so great. The bar was decorated in a Mexican fiesta theme with sweet treats including margarita and dulce de leche flavored cupcakes donated by Edelman Leather. Thank you to everyone who came out in support of IIDA! It truly is the people that make the experience of IIDA so SWEET! Thank you to all of the wonderful underwriters and your generous donations to the raffle! Our underwriters this year included Office Pavilion, Interface, MDI Resources, Herman Miller, Sit On It Seating, Sue Gorman & Associates, Edelman Leather and Gemmy Junky Jewelry. Tired of those memo samples and materials aging out of your library, and having to toss them in the garbage? Come play with us at the first Annual IIDA Houston City Center Zero Landfill event that will be hosted at JCS. Zero landfill is an initiative that helps keep thousands of pounds of post industrial Architecture & Design community waste out of landfills. Collected goods are weighed, sorted and merchandised for pick-up by art teachers, community organizations, crafters and local artists. Mark your calendars for the first two weekends in November as times that you can help gather, sort, display and most importantly, help your industry clean up its act. IIDA TX OK Chapter NCIDQ Study Course – Houston City Center!! FALL 2013 - IIDA Houston City Center had a wonderful turn out this semester at our fall NCIDQ Study Course. Seventeen participants from Carnegis Group, Charming Charlie, Gensler, Mohle Design, PDR, PGAL, Radian Architecture, Slovak Bass, Ziegler Cooper and others attended 10 study classes + an all-day mock up exam at J.Tyler’s furniture showroom. This dedicated group put in countless additional hours of reading, drawing practice, and study time between classes as well. Wish our IIDA Houston City Center NCIDQ Fall Study Course participants “Good Luck” on their upcoming exams this October.! !

Industry Roundtable Recap On September 19th, the Houston City Center held two Industry Round Tables. We started off the event as a celebration of successful 2012-13 year. The Houston City Center underwriters helped us achieve and surpass incredible goals and awards. Thank you to OM Workspace (lunch) and CRG (afternoon) for hosting the events. During each meeting, our valued industry members gave great feedback and suggestions for improvements. Each industry friend felt 2012-13 was an amazing year for our community involvement. We also discussed each event planned for 2013-14 calendar. Those events are listed on our chapter calendar web site at www.iida-tx-ok.org. The meeting served as an unveiling and preview of the 2014 Partnership Program. The Partnership Program campaign begins October 1st. The program is our annual sponsorship for the IIDA TX OK Chapter. TBAE Update& As mentioned in the most recent issue of Licensing News, (on page 2, link at bottom), soon TBAE will no longer relay the online transaction and absorb the fee associated with every electronic payment a registrant makes. Each year, the fees absorbed by TBAE until now amount to upwards of $100,000, and the agency will no longer be able to execute those transactions and cover those fees. Instead, starting in October online transactions will be processed by the State's contracted provider, Texas.gov. The online transaction will include a small fee in addition to the fee you are paying (a registration renewal or change of status fee, for instance). The additional fee will be 2.25% plus 25 cents, and will be included in your total at checkout and on your credit card or bank statement. This fee will be collected by Texas.gov, not by TBAE. Finally, an important note: Some registrants appear to have heard that there is a $200 renewal fee increase. We do not know the source of this rumor or how widespread it may be, but it is not true. Renewal fees are not increasing. The only fee increasing by $200 is the initial registration fee for incoming architects by examination, which was a legislative change at the suggestion of the Sunset Advisory Commission of Texas to be the same as the initial fee for incoming landscape architects and registered interior designers by examination. TAID LOT 75 Recap “TAID is an advocacy group speaking as a single unified voice on legislative issues which affect the business of interior design in Texas” September 26 marked the annual LOT 75 TAID Art Sale fundraiser. You may be curious about the LOT 75 brand. $75 is all it takes to become a member of TAID and further the work of preserving our Interior Design Registration to be valuable and protected. This annual event serves to educate the industry on the importance of the TAID organization, provide resources to further the goals of TAID, and to enjoy a lovely evening of local art appreciation. This year was hugely successful with over 125 in attendance and was the inaugural year for IIDA to sponsor the “BID” station, where industry artists were asked to donate original art to be bid on silent auction style!
