This journal is about my process through Design Narratives, my exchange semester in Madrid and my role as a designer/human on earth. English is not my first language; words were written as soon as they appeared my mind so you will find a lot of language mistakes. I hope this doesn’t distract you. The thoughts I express on this journal emerged after answering some questions that guided the journal. The ideas were just wondering in my head and I didn’t give a lot of thought to them; they are purposefully presented in their most rawest form.

designer statement/iñaki huarriz
I understand this statement as a photograph frame of a specific moment in my career and life surrounding the beliefs, aspirations and values that I have at this moment that will hopefully continue evolving. This last thing is also mainly what my principles as a designer are about; the place of the designer in a context that is continuously revolutionising itself.
Design is about the content and the shape this content comes in. These two concepts are always in dialogue with each other and the role of the designer relies on materialising the synthesis that comes from the interaction between them.
The design that interests me is the one that makes questions arise. Design that is provocative but that does not have the mere purpose of provocation.
Design and Art can be opposites but they need each other to be materialised.
Creativity ≠ Creation.
There is a design aspect to every human activity. It is inherent to our existence as human beings who were placed in a world where we need to accomplish certain activities for survival. However, being a designer means creating awareness about the process that is involved in the accomplishment of these activities and using that as the designer’s main working tool.
