Welcome

Michelle Burress

IHSPA President-Elect, Convention Chair Plainfield High School

On behalf of the IHSPA adviser and student board, welcome to the 99th annual Indiana High School Press Association Convention! We are so pleased that you could join us. You are ALL IN for a wonderful day of speakers and presentations.

Students: Please give your advisers a big “THANK YOU” for bringing you to Franklin College today. As the editor of my high school yearbook, I never knew anything about IHSPA. I loved my yearbook adviser and am grateful for all that she taught me -- but I had never heard of IHSPA until I became an adviser myself. I was disappointed that I had missed out on such a great opportunity when I was in high school -- which made me determined to make sure my students participated in as many IHSPA offerings as they could while I was their adviser. I am sure that many of you are here today for the same reasons -- your adviser knows a good thing and wants to share it with you. Absorb all that you can; hopefully, you will come away with ideas and strategies that will keep you motivated and excited as we work our way through the second half of the school year.

Today’s keynote and sessions are filled with experts in the field of journalism. They have “been there and done that” -- so listen for great stories, helpful hints and valuable advice. After the keynote speaker, please stay in your seats; there’s more excitement headed your way. We hope you have a fabulous day!
