Our mission is to support and encourage the development of our individual members. We deliver this through our membership that is compelling, relevant and forward-thinking.

It is my great pleasure to have this opportunity to tell you about our Institute, why we would welcome you as corporate members and how we could help you in your objectives of making the NHS and social care, safer, more efficient and responsive.

Finally, to where w

The IHSCM is the only organisation to have health and social care managers working side-by-side and reflects the ever closer working partnerships that are developing and likely to resolve in legislative changes.

At the Institute, we are ready to embrace change and innovation.

We recognise our corporate supporters play an important part in shaping the future of healthcare and we welcome them as equal members and value the support they bring to our activities, as partners and friends.

“Only the IHSCM has membership across both health and social care.”

The Institute has senior board members involved in care provision, procurement, and commissioning. Their expertise encompasses integrated care, estates management, finance, social care for both children and adults, information management and technology, human resources and organsiational development

Geographically, membership is distributed across, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Outside of the UK.

Members work in frontline care, administration and operational management, with many managing specialties in clinical and care settings.

A typical member is aged between 29-55, have a first degree plus a professional qualification, likely to manage a budget and if they are not senior management, will have direct access to senior management and decision makers.

Our Hubs

IHSCM hubs are designed to provide members with locally accessible, convenient, regular and high quality workshops, programmes, meetings and social events, all geared to the development of a career in health and social care.

Our Hubs comprise of Regional Hubs, Country Hubs, Care Hubs, and Education Hubs.

Our aim is to establish our IHSCM Hubs all over the United Kingdom so that no member lives more than about an hour’s journey away from one.

“The IHSCM is unlike any other health and social care membership organisation.”.

The IHSCM is the place where managers, clinicians and social care, at all levels, across the landscape of health and care, come to meet, share best practice and new ideas.

Whilst the primary focus of IHSCM activity is, at the member's request, focussed online, uniquely, the IHSCM has developed membership facilities around regional hubs, centred in hospitals, primary care and social care, that provide the focal point and potential for local meetings and collegiate working. They are the heart of IHSCM activity.

Members enjoy Special Interest Groups (SIGs), tailored leadership programs, roundtable discussions, interviews and social activities that brings health and care managers together; creating opportunities for sponsors and supporters to meet on equal terms and share knowledge and insights.

“Adaptable” “flexible” “approachable”

... Three words that provide the essence of being a care association within our fabulous Institute.

Social care is evolving quickly, so we listen and respond to what our care associations tell us their members need. And we do two examples below.

West Midlands Care Association asked if we could run online training aimed at deputy leaders and aspiring managers. The accredited course was developed quickly, and two series of those workshops have now taken place for all our members.

Bradford Care Association wanted a more formal accredited leadership programme for Deputies and aspiring managers, which involved both online and in-person workshops. Again, this is now being implemented across our care associations.

Our care associations meet up bi-monthly. This provides them with the opportunity to come together to share what is currently happening within social care and also allows us to understand the current needs of their members.

Our Award Winning HPL Training

Our training is accredited which means it counts towards your professional development, and is based on real life scenarios.

We listen to our members and tailor courses to suit their needs. If there is a leadership topic that’s keeping you awake at night, then we are certain you won’t be the only one.

Talk to us and we will listen to what you need, this makes us unique in what we do.

Our High Performance Leadership (HPL) Competency Framework is a modular approach to professional development.

Together with our Wales Country Hub, Health Education Improvement Wales (HEIW), we are proud to enable members to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding through the institute and our partners, and evidence this via their own Personal Development e-Portfolio, Gwella.

By participating in the framework, you can work towards 5 Core Competencies, and every year, you can achieve a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award. After 2 years of participation, you can apply for Fellowship of the institute.
