Donald Burbrink III, Lieutenant, Homicide Commander, Louisville Metro Homicide Unit

Lt. Burbrink has been with the Louisville Metro Police Department for 22 years. 9 years have been in the Homicide Unit, as both a sergeant and a lieutenant. Lt. Burbrink has been the Commander of the LMPD Homicide Unit since November of 2019.

Joined LMPD in 2014 after college. I was a patrol officer for five years in LMPD’s 4th Division. In 2019 became a member of the Homicide Unit. I have been the lead investigator on 38 homicides and have assisted in over approximately 300+ homicide investigations, along with being a part of 300+ non-fatal shooting investigations.

Social Media and Digital Forensics Use in Investigations

This session will cover the use of information gained from social media and digital forensics in investigations. Attendees will learn how to effectively use open-source tools to assist in their investigations. Attendees will learn best practices on how to safely navigate and investigate social media platforms, how to document and archive their work, and what to expect from a digital forensic examination. Additionally, attendees will be provided with open-source tools and methods to assist in homicide investigations.

Chris Carroll, Detective, Sacramento Sheriff’s Office

Detective Chris Carroll has been with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office since 2005. He is currently assigned to the Sacramento Valley Hi Tech Crimes Task Force as a digital forensic examiner. In addition to his digital evidence examination responsibilities, he also assists with investigating such cybercrimes involving internet crimes against children, online fraud, identity theft, and the dark web. He has previously held assignments in Specialized Electronics Operations and the Intelligence Operations Group with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office.
