UNIVERSITY
Georgia State University Atlanta, GA July 17 - July 21
For over 20 years, Dream University Prep has provided Dreamers from across the nation with the opportunity to visit a college campus to engage in a variety of activities aimed at college readiness Over the course of three to four days, Dreamers experience campus life first-hand through activities such as living in dorms, eating in the dining hall and attending workshops in college classrooms. Dreamers also work on fine-tuning their career goals and giving back through civic engagement. Dream UP reinforces the goal of postsecondary success by emphasizing topics such as academic persistence, career exploration, and financial literacy. In addition, planned social activities are designed to foster community and engagement amongst Dreamers across the IHDF network. On top of the college immersion experience, the conference gives Dreamers an opportunity to explore a new part of the United States. Since its inception in 2002, Dream UP has been hosted by the University of Miami, Loyola Marymount University, Boston College, University of Colorado at Boulder, University of Illinois at Chicago, Drake University, American University, and several others institutions

Welcome From National
Dear Dreamers,
The “I Have A Dream” Foundation is excited to welcome you to Dream UP 2023 in Atlanta, GA This year, Georgia State University will host Dreamers, Staff, and Alumni from around the country for 4 days of interactive workshops and activities, college life experiences, open discussion forums, fellowship and fun!
Being part of “I Have A Dream” is like being part of a huge family, and Dream UP often feels like a family reunion Dreamers that have attended in the past tell us that the conference was a unique opportunity to meet and bond with Dreamers from other places and to affirm that you are part of a large community that understands where you are coming from and shares your personal experiences and goals Because of this, Atlanta is the perfect host city for our conference The “I Have A Dream” family is represented through a strong presence and deep network of support that has supported 4 generations of Dreamers, former and current staff, and program friends
The past few years have been challenging for all of us. As our communities continue to deal with and heal from Covid, police brutality, xenophobia and racism, we find that we are faced with new but familiar challenges: student loan debt, reproductive rights, and efforts to further erase and marginalize certain communities. In obvious and not-soobvious ways, all of us have been impacted by the current climate, and it can take a toll on our physical, mental, and emotional wellness In the midst of all of this, we see daily acts and activism to address these issues, and youth and young adults play a major part in leading these efforts Activism can take many forms, including the career you decide to pursue and how you vote It can show up in the ways you choose to support the communities that are important to you and in the conversations you have with family and friends It can be loud and in-your-face, but can also be impactful when it's quiet and lowkey
Dream UP is one of the most important opportunities on your pathway to postsecondary success At Dream UP, we will have opportunities to discuss the issues affecting you today, how to rely on your communities, and how to make space for self care. You will also participate in workshops aimed at ensuring your success in school and arming you with the tools necessary to create and achieve your personal goals
Some highlights from Dream UP 2022 include:
Exploring Postsecondary Pathways - Options for After High School
Career Interest and Skills Assessment
Personal Growth - Preparing to “Adult”
Dream UP 20th Anniversary Dinner and Celebration
We are very excited to have you with us at Georgia State University and look forward to a memorable conference experience!

About The Georgia State University
The history of Georgia State University began in 1913 when it was founded as the Georgia Institute of Technology's "Evening School of Commerce." Holding classes in rented space in downtown Atlanta, the School moved its location several times to surroundings that could accommodate the increasing enrollment.
The economic circumstances of the state and the nation in the 1930s brought about Georgia State's first period of independence. When the reorganization of state government created a Board of Regents to govern the University System of Georgia, the Regents decided that the Georgia Tech Evening School of Commerce should be an independent college in the new System. Independent throughout the Depression and World War II, the Tech School of Commerce in 1947 was incorporated by the Board of Regents into the program of the University of Georgia At that time the institution became the "Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia."
By 1955 the Board of Regents came to realize that the Atlanta Division was acquiring a destiny and a unique identity of its own. The Regents separated Georgia State from the University of Georgia; and because its specialty was to be business, it was given the title "the Georgia State College of Business Administr enlarged its mission, t ate College "
