elcome to issue 21 of Kitchen. I don’t know about you, but this year seems to have flown by quicker than ever. It only seems like yesterday that we were looking forward to a long and hot summer, but as is often the case, the British weather didn’t read the memo.

Thankfully autumn is one of my favourite seasons. Living and working in North Dorset, we get to see all the wonderful colours it has to offer. Warm and comforting meals are back on the menu and inevitably our thoughts will soon turn towards preparing for the festive season.

Our purchasing team has been as busy as ever. A taster of some inspiring new ranges can be found in our Hot on Harts Shelves feature on pages 5-9.

If you are feeling festive, check out our new Cath Kidston Christmas range on page 10 whilst the ill-tempered curmudgeonly Grinch and mischievous Christmas Gonks make an appearance on page 11.

We are definitely going to need to invest in a bigger trophy cabinet after winning a staggering 4 awards this year. Read all about our latest triumph in Happening at Harts on pages 12 & 13.

There are some truly delicious recipes for you in this issue. We’ve teamed up with the Trewithen Dairy from Cornwall who have created some delicious, warm and comforting autumnal dishes especially for us. I can’t wait to try the Sturminster Stew with Horseradish Mash. Not just content with offering great products, some of our suppliers (Nordic Ware and Kuhn Rikon) have also contributed some tasty recipes for you to try and enjoy.

Whilst it is unseasonably warm at the time of writing this, it won’t be long until the temperatures drop, and the nights draw in. Our cosy home feature on pages 31 & 32 is packed with ideas to keep you warm and snuggly without resorting to turning the thermostat up.

Our Kitchen Icon for this issue is Melitta. Born into a German family of entrepreneurs and businessmen, Melitta Bentz came up with the first effective and user-friendly way to filter coffee. Fast forward 115 years, and Melitta now offers a fantastic (and affordable) range of machines - from filter coffee machines to bean to cup coffee machines. Discover more on page 34.

HAPPENING AT HARTS Our latest news and views

Open for all

Hundreds of visitors and regular customers enjoyed our Open Weekend, held to coincide with the Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival in September. This annual event draws huge crowds to the area, as well as being a yearly highlight for local residents, and our Open Weekend is a great opportunity to see what we are all about and pick up a bargain.

There were plenty of demonstrations, including ones from KitchenAid and Dualit, whilst Mal Harradine put a range of Stellar & Judge’s finest products through their paces. Although officially retired as a demonstrator, we were delighted to be able to lure Mal (pictured here) back for the event. Sam, our resident coffee expert, was also on hand to provide plenty of delicious cups of coffee using Sage and Melitta coffee machines, which went down well despite the unseasonably warm weather.

“There’s always a fantastic atmosphere in Sturminster Newton during the festival and we love being part of that,” added Harts’ MD Graham Hart.

ON DISPLAY An eye-catching new display was recently unveiled in our showroom which marks a first of its kind for Horwood, owner of quality Kitchenware brand Stellar.

“We’re delighted to deliver this new retail display with Harts of Stur,” explains Richard Sharp, Head of Marketing at Horwood. “It’s a totally new design concept for our brand and Harts is the only store in the country to have it. Shoppers have the advantage of easily viewing, handling and comparing Stellar’s 6 different ranges of cookware. Harts staff can then answer any questions to help customers decide their best option.”

THE FAB 4 A total of 4 new awards have been added to our trophy cabinet recently, both for the company as a whole and also in recognition of the fantastic individuals who work for us.

The Housewares Awards 2023 saw Harts employee Sam Belcher, awarded the prestigious title of Best Salesperson of the Year after impressing judges with his expertise, product knowledge and customer service skills.

“I love talking to customers to find out their needs and helping them walk away with the best product for them,” says Sam, who is a keen guitarist in his spare time. “Every day on the sales floor is different and I’m thrilled to receive a national award for a job I enjoy doing.”

As a company, Harts of Stur received a further 3 awards, retaining the accolade of Best Online Independent of the Year for a second year running, in addition to gaining a brand new one, Independent Retailer of the Year.

Last but not least, our recent store redevelopment and displays led us to being named joint winners of the Best Retail Display of the Year award alongside Woodbridge Kitchen Company.

“We are delighted with the recognition for both our online and in-store offerings and skills and knowledge across a wide range of retail areas,” commented Managing Director Graham Hart.

SHORT AND SWEET Simple but scrumptious – our Coffee Loft manager Ben provides his winning accompaniment to a mug of coffee or hot chocolate with this easy shortbread recipe.

350g plain flour 100g caster sugar, plus 25g for dusting 250g butter 50g cranberries (optional – you could also substitute currants or chocolate chips if preferred).

1 Grease and line 1 square 23cm tin.

2 Mix plain flour, caster sugar and diced butter together until well combined into a dough.

3 Spread in the cake tin, pushing down with the back of a spoon to make sure it’s even.

4 Bake at 180C for 25 mins.

5 Sprinkle with caster sugar and portion into 9 squares.

Great gardens

Our gardening team offer the following words of advice for autumn and winter garden care.

• Spring flowering bulbs are available to plant in the autumn but tulips should be planted later (in November and December) when the ground is colder to avoid them picking up viral or fungal infections from the soil.

Smaller bulbs, such as snowdrops dry out quickly in packs, so buy and plant as soon as they are available.

• Prepare for the winter months by making sure you have fleece ready to cover tender plants; clean out greenhouses and insulate with bubble wrap. Check heaters are working and once watering equipment (such as hand spray guns) is finished with, store them away to avoid damage from freezing.

• Raise planted pots up to allow free drainage to avoid waterlogging and clean empty pots ready for use in the spring.

• Raked up leaves can be gathered in bins or bags to create your own leaf mould ideal for improving the soil once it has rotted down.

• During the winter months, whilst the trees are dormant, apple and pear trees can be pruned to control their size. In later winter and early spring, roses can start to be pruned.

Sturminster Stew with Horseradish Mash Meltingly tender beef in a satisfying, savoury sauce with cream-enriched mash, this recipe is named in honour of Harts of Stur’s home town.

Until the closure of the town’s cattle market in the late 90s, Sturminster Newton had a long history of livestock trading, dating back hundreds of years.

SERVES 4-6 500g beef (chuck steak works well), diced into 2cm pieces 2 tbsp vegetable oil 175ml light brown ale 2 tbsp plain flour 1 tsp ground cinnamon Half tsp nutmeg

stock and give it a really good stir, before pouring into the pan.

6 Bring to the boil, then simmer gently with the lid on for 2.5 hours - until the beef is meltingly tender.

7 For the mashed potatoes, place the chopped potatoes in a large pan and cover with cold water.

Bring to the boil and simmer for approximately 15 mins or until the potatoes are cooked through.

Drain in a colander and allow the steam to completely evaporate out.

8 Push the drained potatoes through a potato ricer if you have one, otherwise, use a potato masher.

9 Warm the milk, butter, clotted cream, horseradish and seasoning. Pour the creamy mixture into the potatoes and combine thoroughly. Serve the stew over a large helping of creamy horseradish mash.

900g floury potatoes, peeled and chopped 150g salted butter 2 tbsp Cornish clotted cream 2 tbsp milk 2 tbsp horseradish sauce Salt and pepper

1 In a large bowl, combine the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and season generously with plenty of salt and pepper. Add the beef pieces and stir until the meat is evenly coated with flour.

2 In a large heavy-based pan over a medium high heat, add the vegetable oil. Sear the beef in batches, until each side is browned all over. Set the beef aside.

3 Add a little oil to the pan and add the vegetables and rosemary sprigs, cooking for 5 mins or so.

Harty Chowder Gratin Generous chunks of fish, sweetcorn and bacon, topped with a meaty crumb is the perfect way to warm the cockles on chilly days. Serve with crusty bread to mop up the sauce.

SERVES 4 FOR THE CHOWDER 20g butter 1 onion, sliced 300g fish pie mix 200g prawns 100g bacon lardons 2 medium waxy potatoes (such as Desirée), peeled and cubed 200g tinned sweetcorn, drained Half tsp cayenne

1 tbsp plain flour 200ml fish stock 30g Cornish clotted cream Small bunch flat leaf parsley, roughly chopped FOR THE CRUMB 150g stale bread 100g chorizo

1 Heat the butter in a large saucepan over a medium heat before adding the onion. Allow to sweat gently for 5 mins, then push to one side and add the bacon lardons.

2 When the bacon is golden brown, add the plain flour and stir well. Allow to cook for a couple of mins.

3 While stirring, pour the fish stock in and bring to a simmer. Add the cubed potatoes and cover for about 15 mins or until the potatoes are tender.

4 Add the sweetcorn, fish and seafood, before stirring through the clotted cream for richness. Add the cayenne to taste and season generously with salt and pepper. Simmer for a couple of mins, then stir through half the chopped parsley and remove from the heat.

5 To make the crumb, blitz the bread and chorizo in a food processor until you have a fine crumb. Add seasoning to taste - depending on the saltiness of the chorizo.

6 Place a frying pan over a medium to high heat and add the breadcrumb mix.

The chorizo contains all the oils needed to coat the breadcrumbs. Fry for a couple of mins until crisp and golden.

To serve, place the chowder into a serving bowl and spoon the crumb over the top. Serve with crusty bread.

Butternut Squash, Potato and Cheese Pithivier Deceptively simple to make, this impressive centrepiece is the perfect main course for vegetarian guests. It can be made in advance until you’re ready to bake it.

SERVES 10-12 500g all-butter puff pastry 1 tbsp vegetable oil 2 large onions, sliced 300g waxy potatoes, thinly sliced Half a butternut squash, thinly sliced 6-8 sage leaves 1 tbsp plain flour 50ml milk 50g Cornish clotted cream 200g gruyere cheese, grated 1 egg

1 Preheat your oven to 220C/Gas 4. Line a baking tray with baking parchment.

2 Bring a pan of salted water to boil.

Add the sliced potatoes and allow to gently simmer for 5 mins. Gently drain in a colander.

3 Heat the vegetable oil in a wide saucepan over a low to medium heat and add the onions. Sauté for 15 mins until soft and translucent.

4 Stir through the flour and cook out for a further couple of mins.

5 Slowly add the milk, stirring constantly until you have a thick sauce.

Add the clotted cream, Gruyere cheese and the majority of the sage leaves before adding salt and pepper to taste.

6 Tip in the potatoes, coating them in the creamy mixture. Cook for a couple of mins before removing from the heat and allowing to cool completely.

7 Roll out half the pastry on a floured surface. Cut the pastry around a dinner plate, ensuring that it fits on the lined baking tray. Place on the tray.

8 Spoon half the cooled potato mixture onto the centre of the pastry, leaving a 2-3cm rim around the edge. Carefully stack the potato slices, building a dome shape. Halfway through, add a layer of butternut squash slices, then continue with potato, finishing with a final layer of butternut squash. This will help create structure for the beautiful dome shape.

Brush the rim with water.

9 Roll the remaining pastry out on a floured surface. Fold it gently in half to help pick it up, then drape it over the pithivier. Carefully cut around the pithivier, leaving a small rim around the edge.

10 Press the edges together, before pressing a fork around them to seal the sides tightly. Then, make a small hole in the centre of the pastry, and score curved lines from the top to the bottom taking care not to cut through.

11 In a mug or small bowl, add the egg and a dash of water. Whisk with a fork until thoroughly combined.

12 Brush the pastry all over with egg wash (reserving any remaining egg for a second coating), then chill in the fridge for at least 30 mins.

13 Egg wash again if any remaining, before placing in the centre of a preheated oven at 220C. After 20 mins, reduce down to 170C and continue to bake for 30 mins until golden.

Orange and Cardamom Bundt Cake This aromatic cake combines zesty orange notes with earthy cardamom.

Clotted cream gives richness and a moist, fluffy texture while the intricate star-shaped pan transforms the cake into an edible sculpture.

SERVES 10-12 FOR THE VINTAGE STAR BUNDT® PAN 1 tbsp butter 1 tbsp plain flour FOR THE CAKE 350g unsalted butter, softened 50g Cornish clotted cream 400g caster sugar 400g self-raising flour 6 eggs Zest of 1 orange (save the juice) 2 tsp ground cardamom

3 Sift flour in the pan, moving it from side to side to achieve an even coating.

4 Place all of the cake ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer and mix until thoroughly combined.

8 To make the syrup, place the orange zest and juice of both oranges, sugar and water (or sherry if using) in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Simmer for 5 mins, until the syrup has reduced slightly. Brush 3 tbsp or so over the cake as it cools on the wire rack.

9 When the cake is completely cooled, prepare the icing. Sieve the icing sugar into a bowl and add a tiny dash of water into the mix. Stir well and continue to add small dashes of water until you have a paste just viscous enough to drip.

Spoon over the top of the cake. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

SERVES 8 FOR THE 10-CUP BRILLIANCE BUNDT® PAN 1 tbsp butter 1 tbsp plain flour FOR THE CARAMEL 250g caster sugar 350ml water

FOR THE CAKE 250g unsalted butter, softened 250g caster sugar 150g caramel 4 eggs 1 tsp vanilla bean paste 250g self-raising flour 250ml whole milk FOR THE FROSTING 25g unsalted butter 1 tsp vanilla bean paste 150g caramel 50ml milk, to loosen 300g icing sugar, sifted TO DECORATE 70g salted popcorn

1 Preheat your oven to 180C/Gas 4.

2 Melt the butter, then use a pastry brush to brush it thoroughly and evenly over the inside of a 10-cup Brilliance Bundt® pan. Brush from the base up to prevent butter pooling.

3 Sift over the flour, moving the pan from side to side to

coat it evenly. Turn it upside down and give it a final tap to remove any excess, then set aside.

4 To make the caramel, place the sugar and half the water in a saucepan over a low heat. When the sugar has dissolved, turn up the heat and, without stirring, watch the colour change to a light amber. Swirl it gently and once the whole surface has turned amber, add the remaining water. Be careful as the caramel may spit.

Whisk the caramel until smooth and calm. Pour into a clean bowl and set aside.

5 Place the butter and sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer and mix until pale, fluffy and starting to look like a mousse.

Add the caramel and mix again.

6 Whisk the eggs and vanilla in a separate bowl and then add gradually to the batter, still mixing. When the batter is homogenous, add a third

of the flour. Mix until just combined then add half the milk and mix until combined.

Repeat with the next third of flour and the remaining milk, ending with the final third of flour.

7 Once combined, pour into the prepared pan and bake for 45–50 mins or until the top is golden and a skewer inserted into the cake comes out clean. Leave to cool in the pan on a wire rack for 15 mins before inverting onto the wire rack to cool completely.

8 To make the frosting, whisk together the butter, vanilla, caramel and milk and then sift in the icing sugar. Once the consistency is thick but still soft, pour it over the top of the Bundt, or apply it with a piping bag.

9 Decorate by filling the centre with salted popcorn.

This keeps for several days in an airtight container without the popcorn.

Snickerdoodle Bundt There’s something very satisfying in the simple flavour combination, and brushing with butter and cinnamon sugar at the end adds an extra touch of comfort.

SERVES 4 FOR THE 6-CUP ANNIVERSARY BUNDT® PAN 15g butter 15g plain flour FOR THE CAKE 115g unsalted butter, softened 140g golden caster sugar 2 eggs, lightly beaten 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 tsp ground cinnamon A pinch of salt 115g self-raising flour 50ml buttermilk TO FINISH 50g unsalted butter, melted 75g golden caster sugar

1 Preheat your oven to 180C/ Gas 4.

2 Melt the butter, then use a pastry brush to brush it evenly over the inside of a 6-cup Anniversary Bundt® pan. Sift over the flour, moving the pan to coat it evenly.

Remove any excess, then set aside.

3 Place the butter and sugar in a large bowl and mix with handheld electric beaters until pale and fluffy. Add the lightly beaten eggs, one at time, mixing to combine before adding another. Add the vanilla and mix briefly to combine.

4 Add a third of the flour and mix briefly, then add half of the buttermilk and mix. Repeat again and end with the final third of flour. Mix until just combined and smooth.

5 Scrape the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 25–30 mins or until a skewer inserted into the cake comes out clean and the cake springs back to a light touch.

Leave to cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10–15 mins so the air can circulate, then invert onto the wire rack.

6 While the Bundt is still warm, brush the entire outside with melted butter. Combine the sugar and cinnamon on a plate, then roll the Bundt gently in the sugar.

Sprinkle or spoon the remaining sugar over generously to cover the whole Bundt.

Vegan Mac and Cheese SERVES 4 500g macaroni pasta 1 tin low-fat coconut milk 1 stock cube 4 minced garlic gloves 1 cup water 1 cup nutritional yeast Half a head of broccoli, chopped 6 cherry tomatoes, sliced in half Half tsp ground white pepper 2 tsp onion powder or granules 1 tsp salt 50g vegan grated cheddar-style cheese 50g vegan grated mozzarella-style cheese 50g breadcrumbs FOR THE GARNISH Handful of flat-leaf parsley Pinch of ground pepper

1 Preheat the oven to 200C/Gas 6 2 Cook the macaroni as per the packet instructions, drain and soak in cold water to prevent the pasta from sticking together and becoming stodgy. Set aside.

3 Place a shallow casserole dish onto a medium heat, add the crushed garlic cloves, stock cube, onion powder and water, and mix for 1 min.

4 Add the broccoli and stir to coat the veg in the paste, then cover with the lid and cook for 2 mins.

5 Pour in the coconut milk, heat for 3 mins until it reaches a gentle simmer, then sprinkle in the nutritional yeast a little at a time, stirring continuously.

6 You should now have a thick, creamy sauce and the broccoli is half-cooked. Drain the macaroni from the cold water and combine with the sauce in the casserole. Mix evenly and smooth over the top of the pasta.

7 Sprinkle the vegan cheddar-style cheese over the macaroni, followed by a layer of breadcrumbs. Finish with small handfuls of the vegan mozzarella on top and scatter with the sliced cherry tomatoes.

8 Cook under the grill for 10 mins.

Quick No-knead Bread There’s nothing like home-baked bread with a bowl of soup for comfort in colder months, and this one’s a doddle to make.

MAKES 1 LOAF 3 cups white plain flour 1 tsp dried yeast 2 cups lukewarm water

1 In a large mixing bowl, stir together the plain flour, dried yeast and salt.

2 Make a well in the middle and pour in the warm water, half a cup at a time, and mix well.

3 Cover with a tea-towel and leave to prove in a warm, dry place for 2 hours.

4 Pre-heat the oven to 220C/Gas 7 and place a 2.3L/24cm casserole dish in for 5 mins.

5 Back to your dough, which should have roughly doubled in size. Spread flour on a chopping board and sprinkle some on top of the dough. Use a spatula to pour the dough onto the board.

6 Remove the dish from the oven. Shape your dough using the spatula or your hands to make it round and slide into the casserole dish. No kneading needed.

7 Slice 3 shallow lines into the top of the dough to allow for expansion.

8 Bake on a middle shelf in the oven for 30 mins with the lid on, then 15 mins with the lid off.

9 Place on a cooling rack, then devour as soon as it’s cool enough!

The main mistake many people tend to make is overhandling it.”

“This is a French pastry – it is very Pamela should short, rich and sweet and needs know. “My top tips when it comes to pastry are simple – keep it cool, handle it less and give it a rest before rolling,” adds Pamela. “Of course, there are lots of different types of pastry so my advice varies. The main ones I make include short-crust, flaky, puff, pâté sucrée, choux, hot water and suet crust. Some have specific challenges – filo pastry dries out very quickly for instance and can become brittle, so when buttering between layers I always keep it covered with a clean, damp tea towel or cling film to hold in moisture.”

HER OTHER TIPS INCLUDE:

• Grease your tins and refrigerate for around 15 mins before filling with pastry. This avoids the pastry sticking and makes it easier to remove. If the tin has a fluted edge, grease upwards to avoid missing any of the grooves.

• Brushing a little egg white on the base ensures a crispy base.

• If adding a little water, always use it ice cold. Add very gradually, a little at a time.

• Try rolling out pastry between clingfilm – this saves it sticking to the rolling pin! I find marble is a good surface to roll on.

Homemade mincemeat gives the best results.”

ENOUGH FOR AROUND 18 MINCE PIES 200g plain flour 150g butter, taken straight from the fridge 50g icing sugar 2 egg yolks, beaten Half tsp vanilla essence

1 Grease tins and pre-heat the oven to 180C/Gas 4.

2 Put the flour and sugar into a large mixing bowl.

3 Using a coarse grater, grate the butter into the flour, then rub until it resembles breadcrumbs.

4 Add the vanilla and beaten egg yolks, then bring all the ingredients together to form a ball of dough.

5 Wrap in cling film and refrigerate for at least 10 mins before rolling out (but not longer than 30 mins as you don’t want it too hard to use).

6 If using for mince pies, choose 2 different sized cutters to fit your tin, taking into account the depth – a smaller one for the top of your pies and the larger one for the base.

7 When your pies are assembled and filled with mincemeat, cook for around 15-20 mins.

Allow to cool before serving – ideally with a mug of mulled wine!

115 YEARS OF MELITTA If you enjoyed a deliciously smooth cup of coffee this morning, you have a lot to thank German housewife Melitta Bentz for

nhappy with the bitter taste and unpleasant coffee grounds in her coffee, Bentz had a brainwave. And like many great ideas, it was simple. She hammered a nail into a brass beaker to make holes, took a sheet of blotting paper from her son’s school exercise book and used it as a filter.

Of course, she wasn’t the first to try and strain coffee. Cloth had been used for generations, with socks – perhaps unwisely – a popular option. But Bentz’s paper method was incredibly user-friendly, more hygienic and tremendously effective at producing a full-flavoured and grit-free cuppa.

She claimed this was “perfect coffee enjoyment” and, being born into a German family of successful entrepreneurs and businessmen, she also knew how to make the most of her discovery.

Having been granted a patent in June 1908, Bentz started a company, recruiting husband Hugo and sons Horst and Willy as employees.

Working from their Dresden apartment, the family enjoyed early success, with their filter design scooping a gold medal at the International Health Exhibition in 1910.

Bentz struggled to continue operations during the First World War, but once peace returned, demand for her product surged, and the company’s inevitable growth forced a move to Minden, in northwest Germany in 1929.

Although control was eventually handed to her sons, she continued to innovate, creating the now iconic, cone-shaped, fast-drip filter.

A CARING EMPLOYER

The mother-of-three was also determined to look after employees, launching a social fund, cutting the working week and offering holidays and bonuses.

Warfare again hit the company hard, and production only fully returned 3 years after the end of the Second World War. The ambition remained, and with reliability restored, the brand hasn’t looked back. Bentz died aged 77, on June 29, 1950, 4 years after her husband. The name goes on though.

Mixers If you are a keen baker, then a food mixer (also called a stand mixer) is a must-have.

Designed to mix, whisk, whip and cream, a stand mixer does it all, in addition to kneading dough and whipping up fluffy meringues. Although designs differ between manufacturer, the principles of a stand mixer are the same. A gear-driven mechanism rotates a beater or whisk whilst the large mixing bowl (usually stainless steel or glass) remains locked in place.

Blenders Not to be confused with a food processor, a food blender in its most basic form is a jug with a rotating blade in the base. The configuration of the blades and jug (which is narrower than that of a food processor) causes a vortex, drawing the ingredients down onto the blades.

Less versatile than a food processor, a jug blender is best suited for blitzing and blending smoothies, soups, nut butters and purées, although you can also use it to crush ice and make dips.

Operating a jug blender is relatively simple - most machines have variable speed control and an on-off switch. Higher spec models will have pre-set programmes and some come with a handy self-clean function. Jug blenders, such as the KitchenAid Artisan Power Plus Blender, the Sage Super Q Blender and Vitamix Ascent Series Blenders are so powerful the speed of the blades generates enough energy to heat up soup as it blends. A hand blender (also known as a stick blender or immersion blender) is used to blend sauces, soups and other liquids. Instead of having a jug to mix in, a hand blender can be placed in a saucepan or container, so is a good alternative if you have either very small or very large quantities to blend. A powerful heavy-duty hand blender will easily blend all types of food, including vegetables and even cooked meat. 1 Melt the butter in a frying pan and fry the onion gently for about 8 mins until soft. Set aside to cool.

2 Put the sausage meat, lemon zest and juice, and herbs into a bowl. Add the onion, season with salt and pepper, and mix with your hands until thoroughly combined.

2 Once the sausages are in, mix the tomato purée and Worcestershire sauce and spread on 1 slice of bread. Cut a hole from the other slice of bread (with a cookie cutter) and sandwich both together. Set aside.

3 Add the mushrooms and tomato halves to the air fryer, spray with lowcalorie cooking spray and sprinkle the tomatoes with the oregano. Cook for another 4-5 mins or until the mushrooms are starting to soften.

4 Take the basket out of the air fryer and make room for the bread by

spooning the mushrooms on top of the sausages. Crack the egg into a small ramekin. Put the sandwich in the air fryer, ensuring it’s lying flat with the hole facing up. Carefully pour the egg into the hole. Add the cut-out bread circle to the fryer as well, and cook for 3 mins.

5 Put the bacon on top of the tomatoes and cook until the egg and bacon are cooked. Put the beans, if you’re having any, in a ramekin – if there’s any room left in your air fryer you can put them in there for the last few minutes, if not, blast them in the microwave for 1-2 mins.
