Do you remember the very first time you tried something new like riding a bike or taking up golf? How about the time you got that musical instrument as a gift and you swore you were going to learn how to play it. Or what about your New Years resolutions where you vow to eat less and work out more? There are many other scenarios in which we start something with the intention of mastering it. But how did that all go?
Chances are you were never Tiger Woods or Mozart from day one. The first time you tried to peddle off on your own… you probably fell down. And you may still need to lose that 10 lbs. But the only way to improve at anything in life is to try it again!
The same holds true to our spiritual lives as well. I doubt the very first time you sat down to pray, you prayed for hours. The first time you opened up your Bible and began reading names that you couldn’t pronounce… it seemed like you were reading a foreign language. And fasting anything just seems too difficult.
