ARCH. IGNACIO SALINAS B. ARCHITECT CHILE 2023
PORTFOLIO.
Architect, graduated from the Universidad del Desarrollo, graduated with highest distinction in final project degree
During my university and work career, I focused on developing projects based on innovation, seeking intelligent solutions to architectural, urban and material problems, being conditioned to parametric and systemic architecture, thus giving variable, replicable and non traditional solutions. Im related to project coordinating of different scales and the use of digital tools for architectural execution and visualization, having a facility for teamwork, problem solving, research and digital learning.

FINAL DEGREE PROJECT CLASSIFIED WITH MAXIMUN QUALIFICATION
The objective of the research is to propose and solve from the logic and parameters of the straw braid and its textile behavior, in addition to its manufacturing processes and the people who are behind each braid. In order to SCALE those LOGICS and reach an architectural SPACE, which has the capacity to be dependent on the communities of the wheat braid, being this dependence what generates an immaterial cultural TRANSFER, by means of building and deconstructing, generating spaces of community INTERACTION where all the productive processes of the wheat braid are present.

NINHUE ITERATION
The proposal is based on the development of continuous communication between the community (social), the technique (material) and the digital, understanding a constant link, generating a new SYSTEM that can respond to different SITUATIONS that are related to both people and material, understanding the change of scale in the material as a common thread for INNOVATION, moving from a micro scale (craft) to a macro scale (architectural). Therefore, a new system is proposed with the capacity to ADAPT to the rural or urban context linked to the production of textile wheat.

FLOCKING TEJAS SYSTEM
How can systemic thinking and generative design methods contribute to new ways of living together?
Can they become a tool for bringing tradition and identity together in a contemporary way?
Can they help to design customizable architectural strategies adaptable to diverse local accessible solutions?
Can they contribute to the creation of transferable dignified spatial experiences for the many?

Flocking Tejas is an innovative architectural system based on questioning the architectural and constructive properties of clay tiles. Through an analysis of how they have been traditionally used, it seeks to explore new spatial and formal repertoires to encourage the use of local craft materials and techniques, through contemporary digital design methods. The goal is to adapt and evolve clay tiles, giving them a new life and value in today’s architecture, promoting a connection with local identity and culture.
EXPLODED VIEW
It is an adaptable architectural system that can be used in different social, economic, cultural and technological contexts. Its design allows the active participation of the community in its materialization, and its ability to create semi-open common spaces makes it a social activator that invites gathering and curiosity. In the context of the Biennial, the system seeks to generate questions and speculations about the spatial, social and identity potential of architecture, and to awaken the imagination about the possibilities of artisanal materials and local techniques in contemporary architecture.

VARIABLE RESEAvRCH “FONDART”
This project confronts the material logics of the place, in order to adequately understand its constructive capacity and, therefore, to be able to generate scalable organic spaces. A continuous communication is sought between the social, which is based on the use of artisanal practices, and the architectural, to develop an adaptable project, of generative and transferable design, so that the community is able to take charge of its own constructions, which encourages active participation and empowerment of the residents of the place.

The system is a proposal for collaborative panels that seek to give temporary use and habitability in wasted urban spaces. The research focuses on the material properties of bamboo and colihue, which allow the creation of complex geometries of double curvature. The system is inspired by construction techniques of local native cultures, which are adapted for use in current contexts with low technology, limited budgets and unskilled labor. The goal is to activate these spaces and revitalize them, using local materials and sustainable construction techniques.
From a series of variable rules and parameters, the system is able to respond to a diversity of spatial, scalar and programmatic conditions. Its proliferation, relationships and geometric variations were studied and evaluated from generative digital design models and 1:1 physical prototypes. The system is defined from structural hyperbolic paraboloids (panels) of bamboo and colihue that are arranged in pairs and aggregated from a circular layout, in order to create a self-supporting and collaborative structural system that rests on the ground without the need for founding support points. The panels are joined together with braided polypropylene ties and covered with raschel mesh on top to generate shade. “ÍCARO” was implemented as a structure composed of 7 pairs of identical panels of 5 x 5 meters each; installed over a subway ventilation vent of 15 meters in diameter, resulting from the construction of a Santiago Metro line, in the context of a temporary “Plaza de Bolsillo”, activated in October 2018.
NUMU MUSEUM SANTIAGO
8.920 m2 PROJECT CONTEST
We understand the Museum as a collection of activities and events; of parts, programs and pieces that reflect and account the culture and society of which is a part of. We are interested in highlighting the potential of the museum as an exposed building, transcending the idea of a closed and introspective “box”, presenting the museum as a broad and open cultural destination. A place for strolling, for gathering, a creator of experiences, of amazement and education.
In this sense, the project for the New Museum of Santiago, NuMu, is conceived as a great “architectural collection” in itself.

It is a series of neutral programmatic volumes that contain the different formal activities required for the proper functioning of the project, ordered in such a way as to enhance informal spatial and functional relationships, enabling new and future uses, diverse and not prescribed, flexible and open; ensuring the vitality and contemporaneity of the museum today and tomorrow.
PERSPECTIVE SECTIONS
0VOID - INFLATABLE SYSTEM
0-VOID is an inflatable pavilion that synthesizes and embodies the themes explored throughout the semester in the architectural design workshop III on the potential present pneumatic systems for the formulation of unconventional geometric, material and spatial responses. it´s an ovoid vessel, which gathers a proportion of 18 m. long, 12 m. wide and 5 m. high, built from a lightweight envelope of transparent pvc membrane and an opaque pvc base of high opaque grammage
UDD, SANTIAGO, CHILE OMI ART, NEY YORK, USA 2018 170 m2 BIENAL DE SANTIAGO, CHILE ARCHDAILY 2018 SITE YEAR AREA PUBLISHED
The envelope was designed from an iterative process between 1:1 material scanning and digital design from which a grooved surface with a diagonalized pattern that allows maintaining the formal and geometric integrity of the ovoid while controlling the deformation generated by the internal air pressure. Its patchwork fabrication was carried out manually by stretching, marking and cutting each of the pieces produced by the digital model, which were then fixed together with adhesive and heat applied to each seam. In this sense, it could be said that 0-VOID is more garment than building; that it has not been built, but rather made; a soft and flexible object, capable of being reused in different contexts; of being quickly assembled and disassembled, folded and unfolded, inflated and deflated, since it is essentially air and skin. A sort of invertebrate pavilion that questions the notion of resistance associated with rigidity, and explores new notions of temporality and itinerancy associated with architecture.
