NEW SUPREME COURT OF MANILA Project in collaboration with CAZA Location: Manila, Philipphines Status : Competition Finalist

CAZA’s new Supreme Court for the Philippines is a symbol of judicial transparency for Asia’s oldest democracy. The building is a 3-dimensional hyperbolic loop hanging over a botanical garden whose form represents the complex functional interconnections required by contemporary court houses. Composed of six rectangular volumes engineered to create one integrated seamless work environment for the delivery of judicial services, the open architectural form created also enables the building to sustain a collection of locally-themed gardens through rainwater-harvesting terraces. The building stands as a monument to multiplicity – a totem of connectivity that connects with the tradition of tribal architecture in the Philippines, while employing new technologies that envision a more optimistic way of living on our planet.

BCDA ICONIC BUILDING

Project in collaboration with CAZA Location: Manila, Philipphines Status : Competition Finalist.

First Award RTF Sustainability Awards - Office Building Concept

The BCDA building occupies 10% of the site opening up over 6,000 square meters to the public as a park with gardens, art pieces, play spaces and an outdoor amphitheater. The park will be the largest privately managed public space at the BGC and will connect to a cultural facility programmed around the theme of urbanization, called the CITIES LAB. The CITIES LAB will be a place where people can learn about our changing urban environment as more of the world’s population become city dwellers. The 21st century is the age of nature and the new BCDA building is designed as an icon for this emerging eco-consciousness. We have crafted a masterful work of architecture for the Philippines that through its daily use imparts the vision of an ecological future that is at once positively inspiring and exhilarating to experience. The new BCDA building is a multi-level landscape beginning from an expansive public park on grade to a vertically-hanging arboretum along the circulation cores, and up towards a health-themed urban roof farm. The building’s vertical arboretum which rolls its way up from the park to the building’s crown is accessible at each floor and offers people the opportunity to meet in a spectacular green setting in the sky with panoramic views of the city beyond. The green pods that make up the arboretum are an engineering marvel of diversity that represent an ecological equivalent of today’s interconnected networks of communication.

CARTAGENA AIRPORT

Project in collaboration with CAZA Location: Cartagena de Indias, Colombia Status : Competition Finalist Second Award RTF Sustainability Awards - Transportation Concept Cartagena de Indias is a city defined by the wondrous physical coupling of Nature and History. We have imagined an airport that fosters links with both elements. The airport welcomes the surrounding landscape through a series of interior gardens featuring local vegetation that in turn connect to a system of bio-swales which help reduce the overall site temperature and mitigate flooding risk. The courtyards add a touch of nature to all the main functions of the airport while acting as anchors of commercial activity, making for a desirable environment to shop, ยบdine and relax. The architecture of the new Cartagena airport pays homage to the legendary walled city by reinterpreting the classical arches as an iconic gateway framing the arrival and departure experience.

SM NORTH EDSA CINEMAS

Project in collaboration with CAZA Location: Manila, Philppines Status :Under Construcction

We have designed three new cinemas as urban spaces that foster collectivity in our highly-mediated environment. The internet is said to have so many connections that it has no inside. Our cinemas materialize a world of manifold forms and colors that represent an interiority that is beyond our immediate grasp. The act of movie-going is a collective one that promises an opening of ourselves to other worlds. The floors, walls, and ceiling of each of these cinemas visualize different possible kinds of networks: nets, webs, grids and planes fold open the limits of an interior space to suggest passages to unknown regions of our imagination. Depending on specific environmental conditions such as lighting and occupation, the nature of the surface, the perceptibility of the space and the sensation of the crowd changes emphasizing the critical but fragile relation between space and collectivity in the post-digital city.

The technique of construction used in this building is the Catalan Brick Vaults. The process of construction is based on a system of overlapping layers of very thins bricks placed in different directions to generate enough mechanical resistance. The abstraction of the concept of life is a circle geometric shape. We manipulated the space and the atmosphere of this building overlapping different circles to create a main space cover by a dome. Underneath there is a crypt. The space is powered by the texture of the bricks walls and the movement produced by the daylight trough the oculus at the very top of the vault, fading the boundaries of the space. CAZA designed a mausoleum for a private client. The building is 69 sqm placed in a small lot. We created a space for contemplation and refuge from the intersection of two self-supporting brick parabolic-cones.

CAMSUR CAPITOL BUILDING Project in collaboration with CAZA

CAMSUR CAPITOL BUILDING

Project in collaboration with CAZA

Location: Camarines Sur, Philipphines Status : Design Development The Camsur Capitol consists of a spiraling assembly of Pili nut-shaped husks made from metal sun-screens that in turn produce a series of shaded roof terraces organized around a covered open-air atrium with a dramatic helicoid ramp terminating at a public roof deck offering views of the neighboring volcano, Mt. Isarog. The “husk of each volume is a metal sunscreen protecting the building interior from the intense tropical sun. This skin will be a combination of metal mesh and bronze aluminium louvers. The encased volumes create a series of shaded terraces. The new Capitol will sit in the middle of a public park with palm tree promenades, fountains, and a Pili grove. A network of paths and roads will provide entry points into the building for different users: a grand staircase for the public, a lobby plinth for staff, and smaller ramps that lead out to the park.

CAZA´s proposal for LARCO 2057 exhibition. In the new age of technology, our propousal suggest a new point of view of the tradtional way of thinking about the future. The new advances will provide us of ability to change the environment in the way we would like. In this way we would be able to mix the artificial intelligence and biological evolution. We like to think in a grateful future in a hybridization of a vast ecological enviroments in the urban experience, ovelaping windows onto a new civic reality.

O´CARREIRO THERMAL BATHS Individual Project Location: O´Grove, Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain Status : Finished in 2016 The O´Carreiro Thermal Baths project is not just a renovation of an old Roman fish salting factory, but is extended beyond, towards a more environmentally sensitive future. By means of systematizing the generation of architectural spaces, and through creation of sensitive atmospheres, not only pre-existing structures are improved, but also their relationship with their environment, through manipulating and transforming the co-ordinate systems in order to generate new interconnecting sensitive systems, and therefore altering the margin parameters of the architecture and its environment.
