Typology: Outdoor Metro Station Location: Oporto Portugal Size: 4000m2 Masters ETSAM Project 2020
Este es un proyecto en Oporto, en una pequeña zona junto al acantilado en la ribera del Duero; un punto donde se encuentran y entrcruzan dos escalas en la ciudad. En la escala mayor, tenemos la red de infraestructuras de trenes de la ciudad, con una vocación territorial de conexión en dirección norte-sur a lo largo de la costa, de las ciudades de Varzim, Matosiños y Oporto. Una vez fue consolidado este eje, lo que se ha intentado en las últimas décadas es densificar y expandir la red dentro de la propia ciudad, para acercar la escala y hacerla mucho más local, permitiendo un uso interurbano. This is a project in Porto, in a small area next to the cliff on the banks of the Duero; a point where two scales meet and cross in the city. On the larger scale, we have the city's train infrastructure network, with the territorial idea of connecting in a north-south direction along the coast, from the cities of Varzim, Matosiños and Oporto. Once this axis was consolidated, it has been tried in recent decades to densify and expand the network within the city itself, to bring the scale closer and make it much more local, allowing interurban use.

Uno de los planes de expansión de esta línea consiste en crear un recorrido a lo largo de la parte baja de la ciudad, en la ribera, para darle servicio, sin embargo, al estar separada por la agresiva topografía en el valle del río, del resto de la red, se hace imposible conectarla. En esta zona del acantilado, se juntan dos líneas, una que une Campaña y Sao Bento, y otra, herencia del pasado industrial de la ciudad, que unía Campaña con la Alfándega, la antigua estación de aduanas, hoy adaptada a museo por Souto de Moura. In this area of the cliff, two lines meet, one that connects Campaña and Sao Bento, and another, a legacy of the city's industrial past, that linked Campaña with Alfándega, the old customs station, today adapted into a museum by Souto de Moura. Las ruinas de la aldea de la isla de salvora, actualmente situadas en su zona sur-este, se colocan sobre una ligera pendiento, mirando al mar. Ap Aprovechando la traza de las antiguas edificaciones, y el caracter de conjunto y barrio que la separación de los edificios aportan, el programa crece desdo esta base, extendiendose en la forma de unos patios que cierran el espacio y lo protogen de las inclemoncias de la isla, y permiten crear comunidad dentro del centro de estudios. The ruins of the village of the island of Salvora, currently located in its south-east area, are placed on a slight slope, facing the sea. Taking advantage of the layout of the old buildings, and the overall and neighborhood character that the separation of the buildings provides, the program grows from this base, spreading in the form of patios that close the space and protect it from the inclemonities of the island, and allow the creation of a community within the study center.

Los patios se van situando de manera que se beneficien por orientación las máximas viviendas posibles, asi, las tipologias A y C, siempre reciben la orientacion sur, y en el otro borde del patio, la tipologia B se orienta hacia el esto y mira mi hacia el mar. The patios are placed in such a way that the maximum possible dwellings benefit from their orientation, thus, typologies A and C always face south, and on the other edge of the patio, typology B is oriented towards this and faces towards the sea.

DISTRIBUCIÓN Para incrementar y promover la sinergia de ideas que debe haber en un centro de investigación se plantea el urbanismo, la distribución de los bloques, de forma que se puedan crear espacios públicos, pero recogidos, de manera que den una sensación de pertenencia. Junto a estas salas de aulas, a su derecha se abre unos pequeños patios que dan acceso a la banda de laboratorios por un lado, y a la cantina cafetería por el otro. Junto a la cafeteria y asociado al patio de esta está situada la biblioteca y el archivo, para favorecer que permanezca cerca del centro de trabajo. Detras de la banda de laboratorios, aún se situan algunas salas de uso comunitario, como un gimnasio lavandería, sala de conferencias etc… Desde aquí, y bajando hacia el este bordeando las terrazas delimitadas por los muretes de piedra, se llega a los patios de vivienda.

Las viviendas intentan conseguir la mejor orientación, Sur, y este, dejando la orientación norte para pequeños despachos o salas de estudio. Las casas son pequeñas, y hay varias tipologías, según sean compartidas, o no. Las casas compartidas tienen más altura y permiten mantener la privacidad de los residentes separando las estancias en altura. Las alas interiores de los bloques de vivienda se adaptan a la pendiente de la topografía y consiguen obtener una doble altura, que les da espacios libres para que todas las viviendas tengan una componente espacial interesante.

The houses try to get the best orientation, south, and east, leaving the north orientation for small offices or study rooms. El proyecto surge como un experimento sobre la preexistencia de la fábrica de cementos de Añorga,para considerarla no tanto como una arquitectura, sino como un sustrato más del terreno, como si su permanencia a través de la historia hubiera dejado un poso virtual, que cobra materialidad a través de una serie de acciones, que tratan el edificio, no como una arquitectura que renovar o reacondicionar, o siquiera transformar o reutilizar, sino como en efecto un sustrato de el terreno. Las aciones son pues de vaciado, lenado, perforación, extracción… acciones sobre la materialidad que permitirán expresar el contenido de la memoria de este lugar antes industrial. The project arises from a hypothesis; consider the preexistence of the Añorga cement factory, not so much as an architecture, but as one more substrate of the land, as if its permanence through history had left a virtual residue, which charges materiality through a series of actions, which treat the building, not as an architecture to renovate or recondition, or even transform or reuse, but as in effect a substrate of the land. The actions are therefore emptying, filling, drilling, extraction ... actions on the materiality that will allow to express the content of the memory of this formerly industrial place.

Sobre este material se empieza a perforar y extraer, mostrando en el proceso las porosidades internas de este sustrato. De esta manera el proyecto tiene 3 estratos, un sustrato más masivo, del que se extraen en planta cuadrada unos pilares aflautados que se elevan sobre el segundo estrato de parque, esta diferencia de altura permite diferenciar los espacios principales desde fuera, y darles luz. Sobre ellos fue se eleva la estructura que sujeta las estrellas metálicas de los laboratorios y oficinas, que constituyen el tercer estrato, elevado sobre el parque, y con un concepto de planta que contrasta con la masividad del d estrato de la fábrica, donde se acumula toda la maquinaria de la incineradora y el atrapador de Co2. El concepto de estas estrellas flotantes es mucho más abierto y aereo, con una envoltura de vidrio y plancha metálica perforada.

In this way, the project has 3 layers, a more massive substrate, from which some fluted pillars are extracted in a square plan that rise above the second layer of the park, this difference in height allows to differentiate the main spaces from the outside, and give them light. Above them rises the structure that holds the metal stars of the laboratories and offices, which constitute the third layer, raised above the park, and with a plant concept that contrasts with the massiveness of the factory layer, where all the Incinerator machinery and Co2 trapper. The concept of these floating stars is much more open and airy, with a glass envelope and perforated metal plate.
