Proposal to reclaim Government Office Space for Public Infrastructure
The bath house is deliberately casual as a typology. It is a space that encourages a culture of slowness and communal gathering. When situated against a field of institutions such as Parliament House, Old Treasury Building, or the Anglican Church, it begins to disturb the existing politics of Spring St. This project is one that is meant to both agitate (the voyeur) and to tranquilise (the occupant). Within the cradle of water, steam, and sweat, you are both on yet away from Spring St. Public in scale but personal in its offerings. This project will serve as a physical reminder of bodily rituals that were once practiced as a community. In conceptualising this project I ask this question: Should Spring St. precinct be a site purely dedicated to the impenetrable mystique of AUSTRALIAN POLITICS PTY LTD?
