BIRDIES FLY The inaugural Let hbridge Paradise Canyon Open on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada circuit turned into a birdie-fest. Riley W heeldon of Comox shot 14-under and finished tied for 29th. It took six-under to make the 36-hole cut. T.T. Crouch of Mt . Vernon, Oh., beat Chris W illiams of Moscow, Id., and Zach W right of Bat on Rouge, La., on the second-hole of a sudden death playoff to win the $36,000 top prize in the $200,000 event. At last! Mt. Kidd Swings Back Into Action After the heartbreak of the loss of two iconic courses, after all the fear that something this good would never be put back together, the final pieces of the Kananaskis Country Golf Course rebuild have fallen into place.

Partners With Ducks Unlimited At In n i sf ai l, t hey ar e alw ays t hi n ki n g about m ot her n at ur e.
It continued during the move to 27 holes in 2004 which was definitely done with the mindset of not messing with the wetlands that Mother Nature had originally laid out. ?We definitely stuck our nose in and said we really wanted these areas left as pristine as we could,?said Innisfail Head Professional Jim Boomer. ?As we can see today how important that is to have what we have but to have it in such a nice natural setting.?
That mindset saw Innisfail become Audubon certified course in 2002 giving them the tools and help in maintaining good stewardship of the land, the birds, the bees and the butterflies. PG 22 | AUG 2018

snowball rolling as well. The Junior Forest Wardens in Innisfail were delighted and quite excited to be involved in this project.?
Sweet , Chair Red Deer Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, approached the course about hosting a golf tournament for Ducks Unlimited. Part of the process was asking what else could be done for the tournament and the community. The project decided upon was having Junior Forest Wardens build nest boxes for the ducks which could open some eyes as to what Ducks Unlimited does in Central Alberta. It was a perfect fit. ?It raises their awareness about Ducks Unlimited and giving back to the community,?said Sweet. ?So, I started shopping around with different non-profits and local youth organizations to start that PG 24 | AUG 2018
Setting up room and board for these birds and animals means eventually word will get around in the critter community. ?We?re hoping different species (will show up)" said Mary Klassen, Innisfail Golf Club horticulturalist. "We have a lot of birds here and we?re hoping we?ll get new species. For instance, we just put up the purple martin birdhouse because we don?t have purple martins and we?ll see if we can attract some.? ?It?s something new and I?m learning from Ducks Unlimited as well,?she said. ?What we want to show people is that you can still be a well-manicured golf course, you can still have wildlife habitats and the golfers are not affected.?

Lee fares very well in Brit ain Jaclyn Lee came very close to winning the Ladies British Amateur earlier this year. Calgary?s Jacklyn Lee may not have come out on top at this year?s British Amateur but she sure as heck came close. Lee, from the Glencoe Club and a player for the Ohio State Buckeyes ladies golf team, lost out in the semi-finals of the prestigious amateur championship, falling to the eventual champion in the round of four. M arkiw reigns supreme despit e lack of play Golf is hard enough, let alone being really hard when you don?t get to play much. At least that?s the theory. That though isn?t true for Brandon Markiw, who captured the Alberta Mid Amateur title by five shots despite playing less than a dozen rounds this year. The Edmonton golfer topped the huge field at the event that was split between the Stony Plain Golf Course and the PG 42| AUG 2018
Glendale Golf & CC, finishing with a solid 3-under for the 54-hole event, the only player to break par. On his way to the title, Markiw carded rounds of 68-75 (in tremendously windy conditions)-70. Close behind Markiw were St. Albert?s Phil Mckenzie who was alone in second and Stony Plain?s Jeff Murdoch and Canmore?s Jamie Cart wright who tied for third.

complimentary pancake breakfast. On Mt. Kidd the most significant change is on the 11th hole. We took the tee boxes from in the trees and moved them right alongside the river. We?ve improved elements of each hole whether that was bunker placement, cart path location, green contours,? Robinson explained.
The public has been flocking back to the mountainside beauties since times were teed up again in the spring, with hardly anyone skipping out on their appointed round(s). And if for some reason someone has to cancel, there is a method for others to fill those slots without a lot of trouble. ?Demand has been extraordinary and it?s looking good for the balance of the season, too,?Robinson commented. ?We?re very strongly booked for August and the first half of September.
