DESCRIMINALIZATION OF CANNABINOIDS
In Brazil, the amount of cannabis consideredfordrugtraffickingisuptothe police, and sometimes they exercise their rule in a reckless manner. This has caused the imprisonment of innocent people that insomecaseshaveasmallamount.
Because of this, an agenda was set in the Supreme Court to create a law that decriminalizes a certain amount of marijuana.Similarmeasuresareadoptedin other countries. Researchers indicate that decriminalization leads to less crowded prisons and allows law enforcement to focus on more severe crimes. This agenda is crucial as it has the potential to significantly alter many lives. Previously, individuals caught with small amounts of marijuana faced severe repercussions; manypeoplewerearrested.

As the debate unfolds, the potential decriminalization of marijuana by Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) holds implicationsthatgowellbeyondmerelegalreform.Ittouches on broader social, economic, and public health dimensions, offering a chance to significantly reformulate Brazil’s drug policies. The decision could shift law enforcement priorities, potentially reducing overcrowded prisons and focusing resourcesoncombatingmoreseverecrimes.
Moreover, a regulated marijuana market could generate tax revenues, which might be invested in education, health, and drugpreventionprograms.Thisapproachcouldalsoleadtoa decrease in drug-related violence and the power of drug trafficking networks. As Brazil stands on the brink of this crucial legal decision, the impact on individual freedoms, social justice, and public safety is profound. DENGUE EPIDEMIC
BRAZIL MAY SUFFER FROM THE WORST DENGUE EPIDEMIC IN 2024
According to the virologist Maurício Nogueira, in 2024, the country may suffer from the Worst Dengue Epidemic
"Maybe2024willbetheyearwiththe highest number of suspended Dengue cases and, probably, confirmed ones of Brazil's history".
The virologist of São José do Rio Preto Medical School (Famerp) MaurícioLacerdaNogueirasaid.
The Dengue is a Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD), which is transmitted by the sting of a female mosquito Aedes aegypti. It has four serotypes: DENV-1,DENV-2,DENV-3,andDENV-4.
InthemiddleofMarch,Brazilhitthe highest number of cases of Dengue, with around 1.9 million of cases notified.
The Brazilian Ministry of Health had saidthatthesituationmightcometo bein4.2millioncases.Inotherwords, 149%increasesofthecasesfromthe lastrecordofthecountry.
The situation led several Brazilian states to declare state of emergency, forexample:Acre,Goiás, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, and Santa Catarina; in additionofDistritoFederal.
According to experts, the reason of theepidemicoutbreakisbecauseof theexcessiveheatandirregularrain causedbyElninõandfortheclimate changes, the free movement of all four serotype of disease, and urban growth.
The free movement of all serotypes of Dengue is even more worrying, because it has never happened technically. This means that the people can get infect several times, even if a person can only get sick onceperserotype.Thedangerofthis isthattheseverityandriskofdeath increasewitheachinfection.
The temperature rise is another problem. The proliferation and lifetime of Aedes aegypti increases proportionallytothetemperature.
Therefore, itisextremelyimportant to eliminate the breeding areas of mosquito, which can form in clear ordirtystagnantwater.
But, according to the professor of UFMG (Minas Gerais Federal University) Mauro Texeira, the disease iscyclical, thenitdoesnot tendtocauselongepidemics.

Because of this, he had said that the number of cases was not a surprise, and had seen an alarm situation. He had claimed that in the next year the situation would improve.

By Vitória DetogniIn addition to the appalling number of cases, sexual harassment is treated with indifference.
Most parts of students do not report because they know that it would never generate punishment for the aggressor.
This is confirmed in a study made by CNN that only 6% of teacher’s respondents of sexual harassment have been dismissed.
"He told me that he is concerned about the image of the institution" reported a student when reporting to violence suffered.
It has also become appalling in relations between Advisors and Oriented Students, in which reports are more difficult because the hierarchicalrelationship is more important.
This is no preoccupation of the university whereas 70% of the Federal Universities do not have against harassment or any program to deal with this problem. Meanwhile, people are obliged to live with poor health, physical and mental wellbeing, and problems of trustworthiness for their whole lives.
"Some universities have Rectory, Pro-Rectory, and seniors, but do not naturally process. Unfortunately, it is not natural yet. Then you will be in front of someone that will decide your life and this someone is the man that can be supportive of that other man and you and go through all these issues" explains a university professor
VIOLENCE AND INEQUALITY IN BRAZIL

Brazilians starts 2024 with optimist despite the persistent social concerns
By Yuri Ferraz Pessoa April 18, 2024Brazilians have started 2024 with a sense of optimist, stimulated by positive economic indicators. However, problems like violence and inequality still greatly affect the Brazilian society.
Through 2023, Brazil faced numerous challenges, including corruption scandals inflation and employment.
Also, the spectrum of violence and crime has a big influence on the nation, affecting it deeply. Cases of homicide and robbery, especially in large cities like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro continue to be alarming, having a negative impact on the population.
In addition, 82% of Brazilians think that inequality is very bad for the country, which is 8% points above the global average.
Moreover, the impact of violence extends across many areas, affecting communities and increasing social tensions. Crime generates a sense of fear and uncertainty in people, restricting their freedom and decisions.
This generates tensions and discomfort in the population, making it more difficult to promote social unity and collective prosperity.

BRAZIL HAS A POLITICAL POSITION OF A PEACE MEDIATOR ABOUT THE WAR IN THE UKRAINE
Brazil has a political position as a peace mediator about the war in Ukraine says one of the main Russian experts on Latin America: Victor Jeifets
By Laura Fernanda CordeiroMarch 14, 2024 / Updated April 18, 2024
On April 14th, 2023, the Brazilian president Lula talked about Ukraine in a conversation with Xi Jinping, the Chinese president. "I am confident that when I come back from China, I will say that the group of the peace was created", Lula highlights. Despite of China receiving positively the Lula management about the group of the peace, nothing else happened after that. In addition to China, the Brazilian president tried to propose to other countries the idea about the group of the peace. This initiative included countries like United States and German, but they received the proposal with reluctance.
A discussion about Brazil's impartiality emerged, especially after it voted in favor of the UN resolution against the Russian invasion.

Brazil's position results in a negative reaction from the Russian diplomacy. In their argument, they defended the idea that a mediator is not necessary, and the other countries needed to recognize the true Russia's interests. However, Moscow valued Brazil's positive efforts. Victor Jeifets, professor of International Relations at the University of Saint Petersburg and one of the main Russian experts on Latin America, highlights the country's position is almost perfect for the role of peace mediator. He emphasizes with the importance of Brazil's impartiality, but also mentions the security question for the other countries that need attention

On Wednesday (2024/13/03), the Senate's Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) approved, through a symbolic vote, the ConstitutionalAmendmentProposal(PEC) that adds to Article 5 of the Constitution theprovisionthat"possessionandcarrying of narcotics and related drugs without authorization or in violation of legal or regulatory requirements, regardless of quantity, shallbeconsideredacrime."
Only four senators opposed the proposal: Humberto Costa (PT-PE), Fabiano Contarato(PT-ES),MarceloCastro(MDBPI),andJaquesWagner(PT-BA).
Furthermore, the PEC says that it is necessary to differentiate between those who sell drugs and those who use them, depending on the situation and the quantity.

How AI will affect the world
By Benjamim Silva Manoel –04/18/2024
Artificial intelligence is both a blessing and a curse, but no one can deny that it is the future.
Most of the time, when people criticize AI,it'sbecausesomeoneuseditforawful things.
Around the world, deepfake is used for scams. In Hong kong a finance worker was tricked into paying $25 million, to fraudsters beliving they were the Company's Chief. This maybe leads to think that scams only focous in large schemes.
However in Brazil, a lawyer almost paid R$600 ($120) to Scamers posing as her daughter. The lawyer, Karla Pinto, noticedsomestrangedetailslike, theway of talking, the clothe she was wearing and that the bank account was not the daughteraccountbutofa"friend".

This is due to inappropriate agronomist activity in the area, intensified by illegal logging.

Another point analyzed in the study is that even though forest regeneration has been carried out in the last 30 years, overall, the deforested area exceeded the regeneratedone.
The authors pointed out that the use of agricultural sustainability certificates can encourage landowners to better comply with environmental regulations, thus reducingdeforestationratescaused byillegallogging.
