Mircea Cˇartˇarescu (Romania) is a poet, novelist and essayist whose work has been strongly influenced by Romanian Onirism and American writing in opposition to the official Communist ideology. His debut, Nostalgia, made him a young literary star in Romania. He is the 2013 winner of the Swiss Leuk Spycher Preis and the Serbian Grand Prize for International Poetry in Novi Sad. Eleanor Catton (Canada) was born in 1985 in London, Ontario and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand.
