The International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) was one of the numerous international student organizations set up directly after the end of the Second World War The first meeting that saw the establishment of the Federation was held in Copenhagen, Denmark in May 1951. The first members of this new organization were England, Austria, the Federal Republic of Germany, Finland, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Denmark. London saw the first General Assembly of IFMSA in July 1952 The meeting had a total of thirty participants from ten countries.
Currently, IFMSA is one of the world’s oldest and largest student-run organizations. It represents, connects and engages every day with an inspiring and engaging network of 13 million medical students from 139 national member organizations in 130 countries around the globe.
On the other hand, IFMSA-Kurdistan was founded in 2009 by the hands of Dr Zana, and Dr Leyla IFMSA-Kurdistan joined the international IFMSA family a few years after its establishment and has been a major contributor to the achievements of the organization both in the eastern mediterranean region and globally.
Structure:
1- Standing Committees and Support Divisions:
Currently, IFMSA-Kurdistan is composed of 6 Standing Committees and 2 Support Divisions These support divisions are The Standing Committee on Research Exchange (SCORE), The Standing Committee on Professional Exchanges (SCOPE), The Standing Committee On Medical Education (SCOME), The Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace (SCORP), The Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH), and The Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV and AIDS (SCORA) And the Support Divisions are The Publication and Communication Support Division, and The Capacity Building Support Division.
2- Organizational Bodies:
IFMSA-Kurdistan’s organizational bodies divide into two main bodies which then further subdivide into smaller teams which all function towards the betterment of our organization.
First, The Team of Officials (TO) is a team of up to 18 individuals who are responsible for overseeing the organization's work on a national level The TO is composed of the Executive Board (EB),The Supervising Counsel (SupCo), The Standing Committee National Officers (NOs), and The Support Division Directors (SDDs)
Second, The Local Board (LB) which consists of the Local President (LP), Local Vice President (LVP), Standing Committee Local Officers (LOs), Support Division Local Directors (LDs)
The LB are the people responsible for overseeing the work in each Local Committee (LC).
The C&B of IFMSA-Kurdistan is currently a 56 page long document which is the basis of all things happening in our organization. To be simply put, this document consists of all of the rules and regulations which must be abided by all members regardless of their status within this organization. The C&B gets readopted each year during the National Assembly (NA) after an extensive voting process for all of the changes that were submitted

Hello there dearest members, I hope you’re all doing great! I’m here to give you all an update regarding IFMSA-Kurdistan’s participation and accomplishments at the 73rd IFMSA General Assembly March Meeting 2024, that took place in Quito, Ecuador, in a hybrid modality We unfortunately did not have an in-person IFMSAKurdistan delegation, but we participated in all the sessions with 14 online delegates in this first ever fully hybrid General Assembly! Here’s a little recap on what we did:
Our bright and brilliant Capacity Building Support Division Director, Abdullah Ezedeen, got elected to be part of the international Trainers Pool Advisory Board and made IFMSA-Kurdistan proud! I’d like to congratulate him on his new international position and wish him the best of luck on all his future endeavors! Keep shining

Apart from the general plenaries, we also of course had voting rights in all the Standing Committees and CB, where all our dear National Officers/Director voted in their Standing Committee/CB plenaries, sending a big thank you to all of them!
This General Assembly shifted to a hybrid format only a few weeks before its beginning, its registration and preparation was all last-minute, but we still left our mark to the best of our abilities!
To each delegate, Alan Salah, Awa Baban, Sana Kawes, Chro Mahmood, Rawen Hemin, Hivi Didar, Sahand Sarwar, Shahd Haider, Vinwar Hameed, Raghad Amer, Aryaz Ziyad, Zinwar Zardasht, and Rawer Asad, thank you for your last minute registration and active participation in the online modality despite the timezone difference, other commitments, and technical difficulties!
Wishing you all the best, Ahmed Lateef Vice-President for International Affairs 23/24
