Is Love?

When does a woman’s ego die for love? It doesn't. When does a man’s lust die for love? It doesn’t.

She pits him against her troops to promote. For her. She tests him in grandiose. For her.

He questions her past, so he can feel safe. For him He tests her mind to take her on dates. For him.

She fake rebels him, so more can be added. For her. She controls it all and will never let him have it. For her.

He hears her words with empty ears. For him. He wants her all to himself but knows the end is near. For her.

She wraps legs around his back, feeling high off her own beauty. For them. She moans her pleasures, eyes wandering loosely. For them.

He gently maneuvers her bodily temple as his heart dances, but indifferent in brain. For them. He embraces with each lip detained. For them.

Authors Notes

The only challenge I faced was the rhyme part before the repeated phrase. There were a couple of lines I had to change due to them not rhyming, so that annoyed me a little bit, but other than that, everything else was fine. If I were to break any rules, it would be the rhyme one, but for this poem specifically, the first line in the last stanza would be a bit shorter, but I had to make it rhyme with the last line. I only realized after I already typed it, and I had to just come up with something else. The entire poem feels alive to me I’ve lived through it all and have seen many others live through it as well. Honestly, what felt alive was the topic, I haven’t given much thought to love in a long time and it felt reinvigorating writing about it. I was surprised by how quickly I conceptualized and actualized my feelings on paper, I usually get hung up on that, and it can become difficult sometimes.
