Hesperia Unified School District Language Support Services liaison Maridol Ceja said she organized two bus loads of parents and students to attend the Festival. She emphasized the need for the Latino community to motivate their youth to aspire to read and write more.
“It’s important we inform Latino parents about all these programs and opportunities,” Ceja said. “We’re not used to being involved in our children’s education; we tend to rely on the teachers. Here they are learning to better interact with their children’s educational trajectory.”
San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Peer and Parent Program Manager Marissa Lazo-Nesco, who provided a workshop on behavioral support for young children, believes identifying specific behavior could improve communication and moral support among families.
