or both Alysia and Eliyah hard work is second nature when it comes to playing softball. It has to start somewhere, though, their father Jimmy Flores, a respected and well known hitting coach has been with them every step of the way. With 10 years of coaching and experience in Travel Ball and Premiere Ball, Jimmy gave his daughters the platform only few could obtain. Alysia, who is finishing her final year at Grand Terrace High School, was recently awarded the distinguished Ken Hubbs Award on Monday, May 20. The award recognizes the top male and female athlete from 25 schools in the greater San Bernardino area.

Alysia and Eliyah’s passion for softball have catapulted them to the top of their games. Alysia, far left, was recently honored with the Ken Hubbs Award on May 20; she will be joining her sister, Eliyah, far right, at the University of Oklahoma in the fall. Both will be playing in the Mexican National Team this summer. Parents Jimmy and Darlene Flores have been a source of support and inspiration from the beginning of their daughters’ journeys.

T

he Memorial Day Ceremony held at the Veterans Wall of Freedom in Grand Terrace honored members of the United States military who paid the ulti-

mate sacrifice in protecting this nation and our freedoms. Colonel Conrad Salinas, retired State Surgeon with the California Army National and veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, served as the keynote speaker. A

reading of the names of those veterans on the wall, who were killed in action or died in the line of duty, was a somber part of the ceremony. The Veterans Wall of Freedom was dedicated on Veterans Day

2016. The monument spells out the word FREEDOM in six-foot block letters with over 1,600 granite plaque spaces for veterans covering the front of the letters. Thirteen stripes, seven in subdued red and six in white, lead to the monument.
