fter six months, the Rialto Unified school board has appointed an interim superintendent. Mohammad Z. Islam, the district’s associate superintendent of business services, fills the post of former district superintendent, Harold Cebrun. The board voted 4-1 on March 12 during the evening school board meeting, with member Joseph Martinez in opposition. Board member Edgar Montes motioned to vote Islam into the vacant spot. The nearly dozen in attendance cheered and clapped as a result of the board’s voting decision. he Kiwanis Club of East Rialto is sponsoring a Drowning Prevention and Safety Day April 5 . The event will be held from noon to 3 p..m. at the Tom Sawyer Swimming Pool at the Rialto Racquet and Fitness Center, 152 E. San Bernardino Avenue in Rialto. Check in begins at 11 am. Events include lifeguard rescue drills, water safety classes, swim lessons, a BBQ, raffles and more. While the event is free, reservations by March 31 are required.
