he San Bernardino Police Department conducted a city-wide specialized Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation on Monday, April 7, 2014 in an effort to continue lowering deaths and injuries. Extra officers were on duty patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes occur. Officers conducted 125 traffic stops on motorcycles and other vehicles looking for drivers and riders who were under the influence of drugs or alcohol and cracking down on traffic violations that can lead to motorcycle collisions, injuries and fatalities. During this event, one person was arrested and 115 citations were issued for various non-DUI violations, including 11 citations issued to drivers for driving with a suspended or revoked license and 20 citations issued to drivers for driving without a valid license. Thirty-one vehicles were impounded during this program, 20 of which were impounded for 30 days. Riders can get training through the California Motorcyclist Safety Program. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
