t was a bittersweet evening on Thursday, May 22 as now former Colton City Clerk Eileen Gomez attended her last council meeting and last official day on the job before heading off to her new role as City Clerk for the City of Laguna Niguel the following day, Friday, May 23. Surrounded by her son Brandon Ortega, sister Madeline Martinez, friends, city clerk office staff, city staff and community members at large, Gomez was given a warm send off to Laguna Niguel. Colton Public Library Summer Reading Program Kicks Off June 7th
T
he Colton Public Library’s annual summer reading program, Paws to Read! kicks off Saturday, June 7th and runs until Saturday, July 19th. For every five books read, up to twenty-five, children of the ages twelve and under will receive a prize. June 7th includes a special presentation of local animals by the San Bernardino County Museum. Families will be able to learn about, see and touch the different classifications of animals in the area. Following the program sign-ups for the summer reading program will begin. All programs are free of charge and open to the public. For more information please call the main library at (909) 370-5083 during business hours.
Golfers needed for scholarship fundraiser
S
pots are available for golfers looking for a fun day in support of scholarships for students of the Colton Joint Unified School District. The APPLE Scholarship Foundation will hold its 9th Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 31 at Shandin Hills Golf Club in San Bernardino. A dedicated group of district employees started the foundation with the goal of helping graduates of CJUSD and the children of employees pursue their dreams of further education. Since its first scholarship awards in 2002, it has awarded over $272,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors. The tournament is scheduled for a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Registration is $80 for a single golfer or $300 for a foursome. Entry includes 18 holes of golf, a cart and the awards luncheon. All proceeds fund scholarships for district students.
