DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION ENGINEERING (IE)

Department of Information Engineering (IE) was established in 1989 led by Prof. Charles Kao with his insight into information age. IE has a world class of faculty whose research encompasses electronic engineering and computer science. In addition to the significant achievement in leading edge research, IE contributes to the society such as in 1990 leading Hong Kong to build the first ever internet connection, and in 1993 developing the first medical imaging network (MAGNET) system in South-East Asia to connect hospitals with optical fibres for image transmission and remote diagnosis applications. IE aims to nurture engineering leaders for the information world of today and tomorrow. Apply now to study with us!

BSc

in Mathematics and Information Engineering (MIEG)

MIEG is a rigorous and selective programme designed to equip students with solid fundamental knowledge in mathematics, information and computer sciences. This is an interdisciplinary programme jointly offered by the Department of Information Engineering and Department of Mathematics from the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Science respectively. MIEG graduates go for postgraduate studies at the top universities worldwide or pursue independent research or careers in various sectors.
