Department of Information Engineering (IE) was established in 1989 led by Prof. Charles Kao with his insight into information age. IE has a world class of faculty whose research encompasses electronic engineering and computer science. In addition to the significant achievement in leading edge research, IE contributes to the society such as in 1990 leading Hong Kong to build the first ever internet connection, and in 1993 developing the first medical imaging network (MAGNET) system in South-East Asia to connect hospitals with optical fibres for image transmission and remote diagnosis applications. IE aims to nurture engineering leaders for the information world of today and tomorrow. Apply now to study with us!
