HANDBALL ACADEMY Goal-oriented Practice in a Dynamic Folk High School Environment

HANDBALL ACADEMY AT IHAA

Handball Academy is the choice for you, if you wish to spend a semester or two focused on handball and test your talent with focused training.

As a student at our Handball Academy, you will have handball practice four times a week.

You will train together; boys and girls, Danes, Japanese, Canadians, and Brits and be challenged by each other’s strengths. Pace, timing, rhytm and power are some of our focus points. In addition to your handball practice you will spend time improwing your physical condition in our gym as well as participating in other cultural, musical or creative folk high school subjects.

At our Handball Academy you will be in the best sourroundings to test your athletic ambitions while you are a part of the tight knit community of the school and experience the unique spirit of a danish folk high school. Your academy classes and practice sessions are planned with great flexibility in order for you to have the ability to play in a local club, if you should wish so.

BECOME A HANDBALL COACH

You can use a folk high school stay for a lot of things, one of them is adding content to your CV. As a handball student you can take the base modules in the Danish Handball Associations youth coaching education. You only have to pay a small amount for the teaching materials and our handball coaches are certified instructors.

AN INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Especially on the Handball Academy, but also in the rest of the school, you will experience an international environment. We have had handball players from all over the world such as England, Germany, Portugal, Brasil, Japan, Iceland, and Canada. Be prepared to have your horizon expanded and learn about different handball cultures and especially the strong danish handball culture.

STAY IN FIGHTING SHAPE

In order for you to test your progress, we will play practice matches against each other, local teams and other folk high schools. These matces will give you an opportunity to measure up to other players while you and your friends get a chance to perform together and grow as a team.

JESPER HOLMRIS

Steffie has experience as a handball player from AGF 1st division, Switzerland and is still active player. Steffie teaches at the handball academy and handball sport subject, but you can also meet her in culture subjekt and multisport.

Jan’s handball history offers on matches in the red national team tie, in the German Bundesliga and French, Spanish and Italian handball. Besides being a handball coach at IHÅ, Jan has been the head coach for, among other things, Mors-Thy masters, who in 2013 led him from a bottom position to the final game.

Jesper Holmris is a former left wing on the Danish national team. As a coach he has brought the British national team to the Olympics in 2012 and has been head coach of SK Aarhus (women team in the national league), and coach for the Swiss women national team.

MORE THAN JUST HANDBALL

A semester at the Handball Academy at Sport Academy Aarhus is about more than just practice with a handball. Our goal is to make you aware that there is more to being a good handball player than jumping force and a fast shot.

By getting to know yourself better, you will also become a better player and a valuable part of a well functioning handball team. This is why we have ambitions for you to not just improve physically as a handball player but also become mentally stronger.

Sport Academy Aarhus is a danish folk high school - a type of school that you only find in Scandinavia. You should expect that about 50% of your classes will consist of handball practice and physical training. The rest of the classes in your schedule, you can select from a wide array of cultural, musical, creative subjects that will teach you about danish culture, social responsibility and coorperation.
