The Face of Relationship Banking

S&T Bank

Two words that summarize S&T Bank are communities and relationships. “We are committed to the Central PA community; we live in the areas we serve,” says Jordan Space, market president. Established in 1902, S&T Bank’s mission is relationship banking… one customer at a time. Headquartered in Indiana, PA, S&T has 58 branches—including eight throughout Central PA. S&T’s bank-wide community service initiative fosters volunteerism and community leadership. Space serves on the finance committee of Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine. Greg Lefever, executive vice president of S&T Wealth Management, serves on the board of

governors for the LG Health Foundation. Additionally, William Poole, executive vice president, serves as chairman of the board for Sight & Sound Theatre. S&T offers a full-service approach, providing consumer and mortgage banking, commercial banking, treasury management, business banking; wealth management, and insurance solutions. “Relationship banking means we work together every day to provide personalized service to each customer,” says Lefever. “As your partner, we conduct a comprehensive review of your financial needs and goals; see where they intersect and how we can provide solutions.”

The Face of Custom Health Care

Novara

Novara is a primary care family practice unlike any other. “We avoid the typical experiences people have with health care,” says Christopher Hager, MD. “Our care focuses on conversations. Life usually comes down to two or three key things for each person, so our initial question is, ‘What matters in your life?’” Novara’s clients say they appreciate being treated like people rather than charts. “There is a volume problem in health care today. By knowing our clients, really taking the time to listen to them, we can create strategic, customized health plans for their lives,” says Hager.

Hager describes Rebekah Christens, RN, as a “coach” for Novara’s clients; when health goals are set, she follows up, tracking and guiding clients’ progress. Novara, founded in 2016, uses a concierge medicine approach; a monthly fee provides unlimited access to care. Dr. Hager says it’s been rewarding to reset the health care model. “If you ask most doctors, we went into medicine to heal people as our motive. Part of that is the joy we get from connecting as humans and helping people find more fulfilling lives.”

The Face of “Shining” Electrical Service

Lapp Electric

Lapp Electric is laser-focused on providing superior service to employees, customers, and community. “We live by the motto #LappToTheRescue,” says Tim Lapp, coowner/CEO. He compares Lapp Electric vans—a familiar sight in the Susquehanna Valley—to firefighters responding to emergencies. Well-versed in all types of residential, commercial and industrial electrical projects, Lapp Electric provides 24 hour emergency service, next-day service or scheduled service to best serve customer’s needs. Tim, pictured second from left, with office manager Diana Smoker, coowner/CFO Greg Lapp and general manager Bob Hess, says the familyowned company is “truly powered by people going into the next generation.”

As second-generation business owners since 2002, Greg and Tim are continuing the positive ideals and leadership philosophy, based upon servitude and gratitude, instilled by their parents. “Our dad built this business through genuine relationships, and we are doing our very best to continue that legacy,” Tim says. As Lapp Electric approaches its 50th anniversary in 2019, founder Manny Lapp’s traits of Leadership, Accessibility, Positive attitude, Perseverance, Enthusiasm and Reliability (LAPPER) continue to provide a “powerful” business model still “shining bright” today. #keeponshining

The Face of Interior Spaces

Bomberger’s, Your Community Home Store A family-owned general store founded in 1887, Bomberger’s has grown—six generations later—into a full-service “community home store” perhaps best known for Ace Hardware and John Deere products. “Bomberger’s is 130 years old, but we’re continually finding new ways to innovate,” says Will Hagelgans, who manages the rapidlyexpanding Interior Spaces division. “Our goal is to be a one-stop shop for homeowners. Eventually we will offer professional installation of anything sold in Ace Hardware—that sets us apart.” Bomberger’s Interior Spaces offers full or partial kitchen and bathroom remodels, all types of flooring from vinyl to hardwoods and

carpeting, cabinets, countertops, paint, plumbing and a growing range of services from professional painting to certified interior design expertise. On any given day, 25 crews from Bomberger’s Interior Spaces division are working throughout the Susquehanna Valley community. But Hagelgans says community connections extend much further. “We participate in charity events, especially in Lititz; donate to area parks and fix gazebos; volunteer for Children’s Miracle Network; and even send a Bomberger’s team to Jamaica every year in support of Youth with a Mission (YWAM). We feel it’s important work, reflecting our reputation as your community home store.”

The Face of Community Lending

AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union Building a strong community is important at AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union. “First and foremost, we want to educate those who need financial help,” says Brittney Monteith, director of marketing. “We provide free financial literacy seminars to local organizations as well as free advertising and sponsorships to help our neighborhoods flourish.” AmeriChoice, founded in 1970, is a not-for-profit financial cooperative serving Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties. With a full range of loan services, AmeriChoice provides personal, auto, home and student loans in addition to supporting local business growth with commercial lending options.

Susquehanna Valley

“Our lending team has a combined 240 years of experience, and we specialize in looking at the whole financial picture for our members,” explains John Needs, executive vice president of Mortgage and Business Lending. “Members are often shocked at how much money we can save them with tools like our Personal Financial Analysis.” “Our members are our owners. Every decision we make is for their benefit,” shares Brad Grissinger, vice president of Consumer Lending. “We don’t believe in treating people like numbers, and our members appreciate that difference.”

There’s a surprise inside this kitchen’s antique-style Asian armoire. “It’s one of the most unique projects we’ve done,” says Sandra Steiner-Houck, president of interior design firm Steiner-Houck & Associates. “People’s jaws drop when the owner opens the doors to reveal a SubZero refrigerator and freezer.” One-of-a-kind kitchens begin with each client’s personality and vision which are developed by Steiner-Houck’s product knowledge, resources, and relationships, along with design creativity. “No matter the budget or style, whether clients are investing in a modest kitchen or a luxury kitchen, whether it’s sleek and modern or grand and traditional, each kitchen is unique and special to the client,” she says. Steiner-Houck, a designer for 37 years, says her firm’s kitchen designs are never reproduced and have included countless creative elements: fire vortexes, a hibachi island, fondue island, indoor pizza oven and much more. Steiner-Houck & Associates is well-versed in all aspects of home design, including outdoor kitchens and living spaces. “Kitchens are where everybody congregates because they are central to the home,” says Steiner-Houck. “For many, many years, kitchens have been considered the heart of the home.”

The Face of Neurosurgery and Pain Relief

Argires Marotti Neurosurgical Associates of Lancaster The Argires Marotti Neurosurgical Associates of Lancaster staff enjoys exploring numerous treatment options with patients—many of them “innovative, technology-driven” options, says Shawn Taylor, practice administrator. “When you’re in chronic pain, such as constant back pain, and you can’t get relief, patients need someone to hear their voices and receive the care they need,” says Taylor. “What’s different about our practice is our approach— you’re not automatically going into surgery as your first option. Patients often need alternative options that are not medication-based or surgically-driven.”

Susquehanna Valley Argires Marotti treats, but is not limited to, patients experiencing back or neck pain, spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and migraines. Argires Marotti also offers screenings for early-onset Alzheimer’s disease/dementia. When surgery is needed, patients are in capable and talented hands, says Taylor. Three doctors lead the practice—Dr. Perry J. Argires and Dr. Louis A. Marotti, both focus on brain and spine surgery; Dr. Jarod B. John is a neurologist. “Ultimately, our goals are to promote your successful recovery and to assist you in enjoying a long-term, healthy and active lifestyle,” Taylor says.

The Face of Landscape Design

C.E. Pontz Sons Landscape Contractors Outdoor living can make you feel like you’re “livin’ large.” But the team at CE Pontz says a large backyard and large budget aren’t required; small-scale landscape design projects can transform tiny outdoor spaces. “Smaller projects involve just as much creativity,” says Bobby Kenyon of CE Pontz. “There are tons of things we can do with small, city backyards, like adding a small patio or water feature in any size or shape.” Kenyon says customers appreciate the personality, creativity, and fun that CE Pontz Sons brings to its projects. Kenyon invites the public to stop

by their New Holland Pike property to enjoy samples of their work. “We welcome the public to visit, walk around and enjoy, any time,” says Kenyon. Landscape design has come a long way since the company’s founding in 1934. Backyard renovations can involve patios, seating and dining areas, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, pavilions, sound systems, fire pits, and water features. “Outdoor living expands the footprint of your home—by a little or a lot— so you can enjoy the outdoors,” says Kenyon.

The Face of Insurance

BCF Group

“Two things differentiate our agency—culture and process,” says Heather Groff, director of operations, BCF Group. “Culture starts with sincerely caring for each other—we genuinely like working together; the environment we’ve created naturally passes on to our clients as we care for them.” That tone and culture is rooted in BCF Group’s 30+ year history; owner Brad Forney is the second-generation owner of the local, familyowned insurance business. BCF Group’s process—customizing insurance products in personal, commercial, and employee benefit areas—is guided by two unique tools, PATH and PRISM.

PATH, as in “path in life,” helps determine which personal insurance products clients need, explains Groff. Similarly, the PRISM process (“Providing Risk Identification Strategies and Monitoring”) guides the relationships BCF Group establishes with commercial clients— from single entrepreneurs to large businesses—and those seeking employee benefits. “We work hard on strategies to improve their risk profile by looking ahead, anticipating their needs,” says Groff. “Our agency is passionate about understanding our clients, employing unique strategies that often go beyond insurance to help their bottom line.”

The Face of Architecture

LeFevre Funk Architects

“Architecture is one of the few professions that touches everyone—how they live, work, play, and practice their faith,” says M. Melanie Burnette of LeFevre Funk Architects. “The built environment not only satisfies our most basic physical needs but expresses our values and culture. It’s rewarding as architects to play a part in shaping that environment.” LeFevre Funk Architects, formed in 2002 by partners Burnette and Steve Funk, is making a mark on the Susquehanna Valley via unique hospitality venues; corporate and retail spaces; and multifamily housing projects, many of which are historic, adaptive re-use. “We have a deep understanding of historic buildings and construction techniques,” says Funk, “which informs our contemporary work, imbuing it with a sense of permanence, balance and meaning.“ Currently, two of LeFevre Funk’s high-profile projects include Lancaster’s recently completed Keppel Building—a challenging, historic, mixed-use project which is energizing downtown with a vibrant mix of residential, office and retail space—101NQ, the former Bulova building in downtown Lancaster. Funk, whose family roots run deep in Lancaster, says, “I have a special affinity for projects like 101NQ. It was originally built as a Hess’s department store, and I have memories of shopping there with my mom as a child…to help bring it back to life is especially gratifying.”

The Face of Custom Homes

Jeffrey L. Henry, Inc. Building and Remodeling

Susquehanna Valley

Building custom homes requires a foundation of teamwork, trust and relationships, says Jeff Henry. “Our biggest strength is communication with the customer,” he says. “Not only are our customer relationships very close, but a lot of our employees and subcontractors have been with us since 1987, so teamwork and a cohesive effort towards a common goal is something we take pride in.” The family-based business spans five generations—Jeff’s son Justin will soon take over the leadership role. Jeffrey L. Henry Building and Remodeling specializes in custom projects for homeowners—from small remodeling projects such as bathrooms and kitchens to complete home renovations and new homes. One of the company’s lesser-known specialties is renovating older homes. “When people love their location but have a dated house, renovations can transform it into a new home,” Jeff says. “We build anything our clients envision,” Justin says. “It’s exciting to come up with solutions to challenges or ideas that are outside-the-box.” Every project is a new, custom project, says Jeff. “My name is on the project, but my team is the reason we’re successful.”
