Villager picks up

18 awards at CPA convention T

he Academy Awards may have been the big event of the past weekend, but The Villager took home 18 honors in the Colorado Press Better Newspaper Awards at the 2013 Colorado Press Association convention. The ceremony, which was held Feb. 23 at the Westin Hotel in Downtown Denver, honored newspapers from across the state for excellence in such areas as editorial, advertising and layout/design. Among The Villager’s nine first-place awards was a staff award for Best Public Service for both page design and editorial coverage of the 2011 local elections.

Colorado is still burning, but not in a way anyone would have dared to predict a couple of weeks ago. The eye-watering panorama of flames that recently scorched the earth and destroyed hundreds of homes has morphed into a massive wall of tears as everyone in our state, and the nation for that matter, feels the bitter sting of pain associated with innocent lives taken.
