Missing local teen found safe in San Diego

Ava Reinhard was missing since April 23

By Tom Barry The search is over. Ava Reinhard, the Cherry Creek High School sophomore who went missing two weeks ago, was found this week in southern California. Matt Tortorella, assistant publicinformation officer with the San Diego Police Department, made the announcement on May 5. “Security with our transit authority … advised us that they were with a 15-year-old female who claimed that she was a runaway juvenile from the Colorado area and that she wanted to return home,” Tortorella said. “She advised security that she had run away about a week ago. We responded a few minutes later, contacted her and then transported her back to our substation … and then contacted [Greenwood Village police]. Officers transported Ava to the San Diego airport, Tortorella said. Greenwood Village police contacted Ava’s parents. Ava’s mother, Debra, communicated by text message with this reporter that she was heading to San Diego to reconnect with her daughter. Greenwood Village Police

Ava has since

turned herself in to police in San Diego and is back with her family. Family, friends, classmates and others showed up to receive instructions and updated color fliers with Ava’s photos and description. The search party then fanned out throughout downtown with a heavy emphasis on the 16th Street Mall and other popular hangouts. The searchers went in pairs, and in some cases with their
