Kingsmead School Charging and Remissions Policy Rationale At Kingsmead we are convinced of the value of activities, which enrich the educational experience of our students beyond the classroom. The governors are determined, at times of severe financial constraint, to act to maintain the provision of curriculum enhancements and instrumental tuition in the school, and to do so by instituting charging arrangements, together with remission of such charges for those parents unable to pay.

General Procedures 1. Where a visit or activity takes place within school hours, it may be necessary to ask parents for a voluntary contribution to cover the costs. Such activities will take place if sufficient funds are collected to cover the costs.

2. Where an activity takes place wholly or mainly outside school hours a charge will be made.

3. A charge will be made for musical instrument hire and tuition unless a student is entitled to a remission. (See below for details.)

4. No student will be excluded from an activity during school time because his/her parents cannot or will not pay.

Charging and Remission for Instrumental Music Tuition 1. The governors seek, by charging fees to those with parental responsibility, to recoup a small proportion of the charge upon the school budget for instrumental tuition.

2. Payment is due termly in advance and, at the latest, two weeks into the term. All cheques should be made payable to Kingsmead School. See below: In groups (up to 3 students – suitable for beginners to Grade 3):  £55.00 per Term (£4.60 approx. per lesson)  £27.50 per Term for second child / second instrument.

One to One lessons (Recommended for students from Grade 3 upwards):  £80.00 per Term (£6.70 approx. per lesson)  £40.00 per Term for second child / second instrument.

3. Staffordshire Performing Arts makes a separate charge for the hire of instruments.

4. Where a student is eligible for Pupil Premium full remission of charges for tuition will apply.

5. All questions of remission will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.

6. The inability of parents to pay will not be the cause of any student being refused tuition.

7. There is a maximum of four students in any group where students receive instrumental tuition.

8. Where, in a particularly short term, it is not possible to offer twelve lessons, the balance could be provided in the longer, subsequent term, but within the same school year. Where a student misses lessons for reasons over which the school has no control (e.g. owing to illness or holidays) there is no reimbursement or carry over of fees.

Charging and Remission for Trips/Visits: 1.

Where a student is eligible for Pupil Premium a contribution of half of the cost of any trip or visit will be made up to a maximum of ÂŁ100 per student in any school year.

Charging and Remission for School Uniform Prices for school uniform are published on the school website www.kingsmeadonline.net and are discounted to students eligible for free school meals. Please see attached uniform price list.
